Stop Re-Skinning so much

In my opinion ESO has a major issue of reskinning enemy types and units.

Like Draugr and Falmer. Which are basically standard npc models with different textures and animation set.
Rather than being different models with different animation rigs which would actually make them stand out from each other.

Or the "Void enemies" from Markarth where we did not get any unique models but just reshaded versions of existing enemies

Or the greater sin - the spiders are all the same.
All spiders use the same model with different textures and colors - which is a shame because there are all kinds of unique spiders in the world.

They could't even do the Frostbite Spiders from Skyrim

ESO put in this
ON-creature-Frostbite_Spider.jpg

When they looked like this in Skyrim
SR-creature-Frostbite_Spider.jpg

They could have at least made this variation in the Greymoor chapter. Hopefully they will in another Skyrim Chapter

The devs reskin, reuse, and repurpose everything. I don't mind with some stuff but is quite excessive especially on things that cost us real money like houses and mounts.

I'd love to see different Warden pets, not just Morrowind's fauna.

If you read the descriptions for the psijic mounts you will notice that TES-universe probably has something close to the Plato's eidos. In other words, there are not so much unique forms of everything, but many variations of it. Yeah, it doesn't explain why spiders are all the same, but it explains this amount of reskins. Or am I just making excuses for ZOSs, idk :)

    Definitely, I want a lizard-bear summon.

Werewolf & Blood Scion could use skins too.

Would be nice to have were-crocodile and were-lion forms

I bet ZOS could make up lore for vampiric forms that resemble reptiles and cats.

Void Mothers are reskins of Nereids with many new animations, and I like them more than the Vampire Lords/Scions, which are new models. Maebroogha is awesome lol, and I love the fight with her.

Most new zones and many new dungeons come with either a new model, or a reworked older model with new animations and abilities

The Yaghra were all retextures, too, but they're all really cool and unique and weird. Compared to moa birds, which were new, but less exciting. I would love a Daedric retexture of those o_o

So whether something is a reskin or not doesn't matter to me nearly as much as whether the end result is cool. Body models and animation sets are design assets that I don't think a team should just ignore. I personally think it's an efficient way to add variety, when mixed in with the occasional newer model

As far as new models this year, so far we know we'll be getting:
    - Mehrunes Dagon
    - big frog enemies
    - probably more, but I'm not on PTS
    PC-NA

word just look at the mounts they are mostly reskins of the same set of mounts we have, the newest "lizard" moves just like a cat, tail wagging and all its lazy and boring

I feel this. I fought draugr for the first time the other day and it was a little underwhelming. In Skyrim, they're very threatening when you first encounter them, from the way they look, the way they move, the way they sound, etc. In ESO, they just feel like every other enemy I've killed. You can't even really tell that they're undead unless you look really close. It isn't really worth changing at this point, but I wish they were implemented differently from the start. Heck, do they even use shouts in this game? I feel like just giving some the ability to shout would've made them a lot more interesting. I also loved how the draugr would speak to you in Skyrim (like every other enemy) and I wish ESO did this as well outside of named npcs.

You can also see this in some abilities such as Blood Scion. Which is a very obvious re-skin of the Bone Goliath ultimate from Necromancer.

I like the lore for the lizard mounts but I won’t lie that I really want a wamasu mount.

Yeah, that’s annoying. I wanted a monster form that uses vampire magic or fights with claw. By basing it on the Bone Goliath they undermine the Necromancer class.

I kind of have to agree. An expansion should have various unique enemies that are really unlike what you find in other areas.

A falmer should not feel like goblins. Period.

I liked that Skyrim really made the two of them different. Even Reiklings.

At no point does ESO make goblins really feel different from playable races. They’re just a reskin with a different animation set.

I get that it’s efficient but it makes all the enemies feel TOO alike, instead of varied.

I've seen games that reuse skeletons to amazing effect.

Look at Monster Hunter: World, for example. A lot of the monsters use a handful of the same skeletons. You can see it especially with the elder dragons.

The problem is this game is so obvious about it a lot of the time. Perfect example: the bone colossus and the void colossus are the same thing with a different paint job. Also, the welwa mount, which utilizes not only the same skeleton as the senche-raht (which would be fine!) but the same model composition and animations. I can't look at it and not think "scaled senche-raht."

There's been a few examples of it being done well, though. I agree with the theory about the void mothers being the same skeleton as the nereids, and I'm almost positive the harrowstorm reaper uses the same skeleton as the air atronach. But! Because their models are so different and they are also functionally so different, the result is successful.

It's all about time and costs.

Developing all new enemies with entirely new animations and models is very inefficient for both.

Usually a piece of content will include one, MAYBE two enemies with completely new designs and/or animations. Typically a major boss or featured enemy.

Markarth, for instance, had the Dwarven Dynastor, which had a completely new design and unique animations. The Voidmother enemies also had some new stuff, but were mostly reskinned Nereids or Wispmothers (I haven't really paid attention to which).

I like to play a game when going through new content of "Who is the fancy new thing the Designers put all the effort into?"

I approve. Many enemies are just reskinned with slighty altred meshes, but always the same animations.

like. they used a lot of new enemy types from Summerset. (yes, summerset added a lot) and bringed them back in Elsweyr with different name and abilities. Then later they added enemies into zones where you have been before in diifferent games and added enemy types which not even existed as a skeleton or not even mentioned in the older games.

rest of the enemies are like basicly just a reskin.
You know what we need still? a Bestiary! (no, not the other ...... -.-")
    125744-dungeon-siege-ii-windows-screenshot-bestiary.jpg

it would work like. if you kill the enemy then you get a point into your bestiary. after 5-10 kill you know enough the enemy to have his own registry.

Falmers using Goblins' skeletons... that is where it really got me for the first time.

Yes, it's MMO, yes everyone is reusing skeletons in many games, but holy...Snow Elves deserve better treatment!

Recycling assets is fine. Creates a sense of a cohesive and familiar world. Dev resources better be put in fixing the game, not making fancy pets. It's your choice if you spend irl money.
