So after Monday's patch, I booted up ESO and it seemed to have reset to default. Pre-game videos played (I had turned them off in the UserSettings file years ago), I had to re-accept all User Agreements, it did not remember my account name, I had to re-choose my server + location, it replayed the Greymoor cinematic, my addons weren't appearing, and all graphics/audio etc. settings were reset.
I had a look at my UserSettings.txt file and all seems as it should be (SET SkipPregameVideos was set to "1", audio seemed to have the right settings, my username was there, etc.). So it's like the game wasn't reading the UserSettings.txt file or the addons folder.
So I contacted support and while I waited for a response, I did some digging. I decided to log in and take a screenshot to see where it was being stored, and lo and behold, it was a different path.
Up until now, my user folder was located in
C:\Users\[User]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online, but now it has created a new, hidden folder located in
C:\ProgramData\Elder Scrolls Online and all new settings/screenshots are being stored there. It even had both "live" and "pts" folders even though I don't have the PTS downloaded.
After some back and forth with support, I got this reply :
I understand you are having some issues with ESO. If you have repaired your game client and are not having issues, then the files are located in the correct place. Please note customer support does not control the placement of files as it is handled at the discretion of the developers.
Sooooo I'm confused, why was the directory suddenly changed after Monday's patch? Has anyone else ever had this problem? Now that I know where it is it's an easy fix, just copying the files over to the new location but what's to stop it from happening again?
