I have no idea why you all think ita so hard for them to ads things to this game.

It's literally making an npc with some dialog. Not that complicated

Only 2 companion are annouced yet so give them time and we may get one eventualy

For the housing npc, while not officially announced an argonian npc named make many soup was datamined for 6.3.0, so maybe in the mext few month

I prefer some unique companions with original story, personality and quests rather than bunch of random. Waiting for next updates with new companions will be a bit exciting. Also this is another thing after antuqities which expands added content with future Q2 and Q4 DLCs.

I'm all for the companion system, but adding 20 in the first year they're out?

That may be a little too ambitious, especially considering they're implied to actually have depth to the design, like leveling them up and completing their personal questlines.

Honestly, the way Companions are designed sounds like they take a page from the Fallout School of Design, not the watered down Elder Scrolls version.

Makes-Many-Soups was a "companion" to one of the crafting hirelings. He was argonian, with a pet mud crab, ran into Makes at Jorunn's Stand (I think it was), she grabbed the crab to make him into dinner.

It was one of the "letter stories" for a few months. The hireling's name was Veesk-Olan and he was writing an adventure about "The Green Hood and the Dres Slavers" or some such.

I'll be honest, I'd be more than happy to buy a 'blank' companion that I can design in terms of race, appearance, etc etc.

I'd this is the method they go with instead of 20 seperate npcs that would be totally fine.

Also to the people thinking I'm being a spoiled Brat.

I'm literally only requesting this so EVERYONE that plays gets some true entertainment from the whole new system. Literally with the two current companions coming I have 0 interest. So yes it normal to request something that would allow me to enjoy something I'd pay 60 bucks for.

Honestly if they added a high elf right away I'd be set and happy and good give a fart if anyone else got a companion they desired.

But I'm making the request for the community at large for variety and choice.

I'm not personally going to use all 20 options.

So the way I see it.
Add fleshed out unique npcs one or two at a time. Sure.
But also had a blank customizable one that has some generic story or none at all.

    I'll pay 5000 for that.

Literally someone who is not an imperial. They are literally the worst most boring race along with nords and Breton.

It's voice acted mmo plus the amount of writing to be done would be insane (if their intention to make an actual companion and not 5 skill npc) for their team size, I'd take even one companion but actually fleshed out and not some tag along alkosh knows what.

    This

    Companions are not like Lydia

Companions are more like Followers from Fallout 4 and Bioware games - Quality over Quantity

Well then the reality for ZOS pocket books is that they will not benefit vastly without including the options.

And yes this means that even if that means them handing out one new npc a year for 5000 crowns. Then I have to wait 4 years for a high elf. Then they will get the money out of me.

I have no idea why you all think ita so hard for them to ads things to this game.

    that sounds pretty ignorant, imo.

These companions will have various un-lockable storylines as well as developing relationships that are dependent on player choices, with their own likes and dislikes.

Each companion will have new dialogue with every installment, with romance down the road.

These are not 1-dimensional NPCs. These will be the most complex characters we interact with in the game.

ZOS wants to do it right so they are not going to rush them.

How about you wait and see before you judge these two companions when you haven't even seen gameplay for them yet.

I already stated I'm more then ok with them adding the 2 first companions and getting the system down correctly.

But it does not matter how fleshed and amazing the companion ism I don't want it tied to me in any way because it's not the style of npc I would want to travel with at all.

I can wait and see til the sun explode but I'm not even going to use them just because they are an imperial and a dunmer.

Well, I'm not going to mess with them because I just don't have any interest in "sidekicks". I've never used companions in any game I've played yet - SO not my thing....

And having one or two of every race would not prompt me that direction either. I hope you get what you're wishing for though.

I still do not understand why ZOS determines the gender and race of the companions in advance. Interesting background stories could also be written that fit universally and then each player can determine himself what race/gender the companion should be.

This is a very interesting concept.

Imagine the first meeting with your companion,

It is a an inanimate rock. LOL

You give your NPC life. Then you get to choose the attributes, skill and armor.

Gender, class, role === Things that can be re-specced later with in-game gold.

Story and background would be difficult in this scenario.

Actually, its been confirmed that one of the new Hoseguests is an Argonian called Makes-Many-Soups :)
Very excited for that. Hope that add an Argonian Companion too!
of course the argonian one has to have a sillyish, housekeeping-style name lol...

That npc has already been in the base game:

Tbh I'd like to see companions added retroactively, for old content too.

Like if I finish Glenumbra, let an NPC we only encounter in that zone offer to travel with me, something like that. Do that for every quest zone over time and we're laughing - it'd be an awesome system.

I totally agree. There are several npcs who stand around somewhere in a tavern or at their home after the ending of their quest or questline. Some even have a bit of dialogue in case you visit them again. Would be a a great opportunity to just add some travel option to that.

While I agree with many others here that your idea, while a great goal for the longterm, is way too ambitious to properly ensure good quality if done quickly.

However one thing I do wish they would have done is at least have one mage related companion accompanying "Bastion & Mary" who were described as akin to paladin and rogues in their background.

I think having 3 ready at the launch of the feature would have been much more manageable then 2 of each race, but would also give a nice selection for those of us more arcane inclined.

Especially since I'm honestly only excited for Companions FOR the character aspect of them.

Oh yes, the future companion is initially a golem made of clay and we find him as a failed experiment, perfect! However, it doesn't have a lot of backstory then. Another option could be, that it has to be a previously living person who has been cursed and transformed into a shapeless mass (or a stone) by adverse circumstances and now we have to find his/her memory back. The possibilities are endless.
