Dolmens in Western Skyrim

SteveyP777
Good afternoon,

There must have been others who have asked this question and I'm probably missing something obvious but... the dolmens in Western Skyrim appear to be three or four people sat around a campfire with nothing happening.

Am I missing something?

Hi, just like the other dolmens, they are not always active. Usually, someone on zone chat broadcasts which one is currently active. Also, good luck with that, they are quite hard, quite a few people are needed, opposed to the other dolmens that can easily be soloed!

I'll add my two drakes to put things into perspective. Harrowstorms can be completed by just two high CP players in endgame gear (I did it with my friend on a stamblade and a magsorc). They're challenging but not insanely hard.

Also they are completely random, unlike the rotation of the dolmens. One can pop 10 tines in a row,and another 1 time a day. They need to do something about that,or atleast have 1 upper and one in blackreach always running at same time.

Yeah, going solo is very, very hard. The chance of getting a one-shot from the Crow guy I forgot the name is very high. But if you have a partner capable of kiting mobs around until you leave aetherial form it's very doable.

I think solo I manage only to get two pikes down

If you're going into Harrowstorms solo bring a stun with you, preferably an area of effect one. Target the ghosts that come for the pikes with the stuns and you'll see your survivability go up!

Reason why is the pikes are charging a ritual in the center. It's like every 3-6 charges (I don't know the exact number) summons a boss monster at the center of the storm. The ghosts are the fuel and when you stop them from touching the pikes the bosses won't be summoned to take you down.

Reason you stun the ghosts is after they leave the stun it messes up their pathing and they just stand around afterwards not knowing what to do.

Ah, I imagine that can be the case no, actually, I can't even imagine that feat but I trust your word :D Since OP didn't know how harrowstorms worked I thought they may be a new player, hence the answer :)

Last time I did one, I imagined those poor souls that stumble across an harrowstorm just after the tutorial...

Ah okay so - thanks for all the responses above but - this seems to answer my questions; so they're NOT exactly like other dolmens in that them being 'active' seems far more random and potentially rare than regular dolmens which are routine enough that you can grind them in Alik'r Desert... is that right?

    Thanks all.

Harrowstorms are easy for solo players till they start spitting out crows in the first phase. Then you have to keep moving constantly because these hit really hard.

It's often more difficult when you join a harrowstorm in progress and no one is killing ghosts so there's like 3-4 minibosses already. Especially if these minibosses happen to be crow people.
I honestly don't get it, the mechanic seems pretty obvious but 90% of people just ignore it and get swarmed.

Correctly, unlike dolmens its multiple spawn points who is random. Not sure how the geysers in Summerset work but it might be similar? They are also significantly harder than dolmens, even geysers probably harder than dragons because of the ghost creating spawns.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I honestly don't get it, the mechanic seems pretty obvious but 90% of people just ignore it and get swarmed.

This generally seems to happen when 1 or 2 people without amazing DPS decide to start the Harrowstorm. They might be able to stay alive , but a couple of low level players out questing join in and die repeatedly. So then you've got a series of pikes generating more energy from the souls and mobs all over the place. As long as 1 player stays alive it won't reset. Getting on top of that situation is difficult.

Mostly the shrikes are going to be the lethal ones, but the other mini-bosses can kill too. As well as trash packs that some players insist on kiting instead of bringing to pikes for AOE. Why dragging them, or a boss, over the top of someone who's focusing on pikes/ghosts is a good idea is something I'm yet to understand.

I pretty much stopped doing them. Most of the storms I come across appear to be abandoned. The red tornado is up but there is no one there playing them.

Personally I can’t blame them, the effort compared to the reward at the end is utterly out of whack. All I ever got was a handful of vendor items, a mushroom or two and some low-level zone junk.

All I have to show for clearing out dozens of those stupid things.

Quite frankly I can get more loot and XP roaming up and down the rivers, bashing mudcrabs and bears for a tiny fraction of the effort

Don’t even bother calling out in zone chat because all the answer you get is silence

Oh I just tag along. After experiencing incident from yesterday I just shot mostly from a bow from far away and pop few spells and then i observe vampire Lords from a safe distance.
