Let's talk: CP 2.0
So I'd like to talk about the coming CP changes. Of course I know that everything about it can, and alot of stuff will be changed but I think early feedback is very important for this.
Often the players want something diffrent than the game maker which leads to an result that both sides see as imperfect.
However ZOS said that they want to reduce the gap between low and high CP players which is what the communty wants as well. Besides that veterans should have a way to do something with their >810 cp while new players should not feel like they have an endless grind to come.
I talked alot with other people on reddit and there seems to be a fear that the gap between new and experienced players (low and high CP) will drastically increase instead of getting closer together.
If we understand the new system correctly it is planned to give us the ability to use 12 "skills" at the same time. This means we need 1200 CP just to fill these skills.
Every CP >1200 can be used in other perks that give passive bonuses which are recived all the times and do not need to be slotted. An example I heard often was magic/armor penetration as one of these passive skills.
However this is where I see the gap becoming alot larger. First of all you now need nearly 400 CP more to aquire the baseline which sets everyone below 810 just further back than they are already and everyone above 810 but below 1200 also loses power. This is IMO not great but still okay. It's like the CP increase we got in the past. The real problem comes with the passives that do not need to be slotted:
Befor you had to choos what you do with your 810 CP if you want more for example penetration you'd need to take the point form somewhere and lose maybe some healing or critical damage. With the new system this is not the case IF you are at an enourmes CP level. If you got 2000 or 3000 CP you do not need to sacrifce any needed skill the get the penetration making it a flat losses buff.
However if you are below 1200 you obviously can put point into it but you'll also lose points in your sloted "skills".
Don't get me wrong I think it is time that long time players are able to do something usefull with their CP but makeing them just straight up stronger than everyone with less CP will not bring the gap closer together. The new player experince and the experince for "low" (160 - 700 or 800) CP players will be a nightmare because they will be kicked out of PuG dungeon groups and get slaughterd in PvP.
Some side notes:
I saw a similar problem in another game - Plantside 2. Maybe some of you know it for those who don't: It's an open world mmo like shooter. Everyone form level 1 to veteran with 10000h playtime are in the same area. You can probalby imagine that the new player experience is everything but great which keeps the game form getting more popularity and often nearly killed it.
The reason for the bad experience is not that the veterans got alot of stuff unlocked (you need to unlock weapons and level up skills) but because it is really hard to aim in this game. It is not your typical Call of Duity game where the opponent is at max 20 meters away form you and dies with 3 hits. In this game enemies are running around wildy are super far away and take alot of hits to kill. Those vets obivously have greatly superior aim making it impossible for new players to kill them.
And while skill is very important in ESO it isn't everything. The right gear, playstyle and yes CP are what makes a huge diffrence. If we now boost all the veteran players by making them stronger than ever before we will soon see the same problem in ESO. Nobody will be able to beat a good player with 3000+ CP.
The reason I talked about Plantside this much is that there it can not be fixed and it made two companys who onwed the game go bankrupt and it keeps the playerbase low. Here in ESO CP are a strong and powerfull tool but it currently is capped. If we change it and give veterans staright up buffs for every CP they got it will ruin the experince for new players - older players will get board and quit the game resulting in a low playerbase that nobody wants to join.
But we still have time to work with ZOS and make the new system alot better. Better and fairer than the old one ever was. Resulting in many more players who don't see the need to grind for month to compete with the long time players.
Please excuse my grammer and weirldy structured sentences I did my best and I'm sure that the message is understandable^^
