No update on next-gen console upgrade :(

I have to say I am pretty disappointed that there was no update regarding when we can expect the upgrade for Xbox Series X and PS5. I was really expecting to hear something about it during the stream, or at least something more than indicating it is still being worked on. The fact that all they can say is that it's still being worked on is a little worrisome. Could it be that the upgrade to next-gen consoles is more challenging than anticipated? Is the next chapter going to launch while next gen adopters still play on last gen's client?

The more games that get optimized/released for Xbox series X and PS5 while ESO stays with the old client, the more shiny new toys there will be to draw console players away from ESO.

I was really expecting to hear something about it during the stream, or at least something more than indicating it is still being worked on.

    I personally didn't.

That announcement was what, 6+ months ago and we've heard basically nothing since?

I have the Series X too. Game doesn't run any better for me than it did on my Xbox One (it's running in BC mode) other than faster load times (assuming you have the game on the internal SSD and don't run it from an external drive).

Ironically, it now actually runs worse thanks to increased crashing.

I've all but given up hope on ZOS to actually create a new gen update for this game on Gen 9 consoles anytime soon.

I should have just not bothered with the Xbox Series X and gone PC instead... really sick to death of the bad performance of this game on console now for (literally) years.

ESO is better on Xbox series X and PS5 then Xbox One and PS4 as it runs the Xbox One X and PS4 version respectively (with even faster load times).

And I can't speak for much group PvE content, but in PvP, I pretty much never crash now on Xbox series X, whereas I was crashing very frequently on Xbox One X.

This is very disappointing considering almost all other last gen games have either released next gen updates already or at least have solid near term release dates for them.
Even if it won't drop until June they could give use the details of what will be improved when we get it. The graphics on the PS4 version look flat and cartoonish compared to a PC on Ultra settings so there is a lot room for improvement.

Rich mentioned the next gen console client is still being worked on, and probably wont be ready until Q3 or Q4.

This is something they promised on Stadia too, but have yet to deliver for anyone STUPID enough to have been playing on consoles. So sick of Xbox and Playstation and their anti-consumer tactics that make it hard for developers to do a simple data port of your account to another platform! It's bogus! I've said it now for about 2 DLC releases and a new one coming that ZOS won't make another dime from me until I can play my Xbox account with all my progress and lockbox unlocks on Stadia and I mean it! Not a dime!

I'll be buying one next month for the Mass Effect trilogy remaster! It'll be nice to play ESO on it too.

If you are currently playing ESO on a regular Xbox, and not Xbox One X, you'll see a nice visual improvement on your Xbox series X.

But I know the Xbox series X can do a lot more. I am dying to see ESO running at native 4K and 60 frames per second on my console.

I read an article that the TV hdmi port needs to be v2.1 with a v2.1 cable (included with the series x, the not series s) to achieve the full specs (which is al dependent on the game). If the cable or tv port is v2.0 you will be capped at 4K/30fps.

From the article I read ......
It is important to note that while the Series X uses HDMI 2.1 as the connection, it doesn't mean your TV also needs to support HDMI 2.1. You can play over an HDMI 2.0 port and cable, just with a max 4K/30fps performance ceiling.

My Samsung 65" 4k TV is just a year old and is only HDMI v2.0. From some research I did after reading the article, only a handful of new tv's in 2020 had the HDMI v2.1 port and they were the higher end models.

HDMI 2.0 maxes at 4K/60fps. HDMI 2.1 is required for 120fps, but I would be shocked if the next gen optimized version of ESO targets 120FPS.

My PC with a low/mid tier 4gb RX570 gpu can run ESO with everything maxed and get 30fps at native 4K (60@1440P) so there is no reason that the PS5 and XBoxX, with more than double the raw processing muscle, won't be able to run everything maxed at 60fps.
I play the PS4 version (on PS5) as well and the higher settings on the PC are quite impressive in comparison.

I got mine by signing up for a discord stock checker bot that pushes notifications to my phone. On Dec 5th I got and immediately clicked on a notification which opened my Amazon app and I was able to use "buy it now" to enter checkout and secure the bag before the bots got them all.
Hope that info might help some others to score as well.

I'm on ps5 and while the lack of information from zenimax is discouraging I actually have fewer crashes, more stable fps and all players and npcs are preloaded before I inter a new zone. Waiting for guild traders to load in got old a long time ago but the server lag from traders is still unbearable. I feel like were all playing on an ssd while waiting on an hdd server or something. Eso is due for a graphical overhaul and new updated servers.

Thats why we should be able to transfer our account to PC considering how much money and time we have spent on a broken product.. we deserve better..

I did the same with the Series X as well.
Didnt seem like a hard thing to do, thats how most people got theres.

You need hdmi2.1 to get 120mz gameplay providing the game supports it.
You need your tv to support hdmi 2.1 as well.
My CX does so no speed issues.
If you want Atmos plug eARC from your AV or soundbar to your tv and enable eArc on it as well for true Atmos.
Again, you'll need a 2.1 port which is usually the eARC or ARC port on your tv.
Only the newer tv's will have a eARC port, like the CX, which is a 2020 model.
CES2021 is over the new tv;s are coming.
Keep a lookout for hdmi 2.1 ports.

Have you considered most people have busy lives or had things on at the time the pre orders and stock drops went live? Not everyone has the opportunity to sit on a website constantly refreshing the page for consoles that literally sell out in less than a minute sometimes. I got extremely lucky getting my PS5 but the only reason I managed it is because I happened to be off work when a stock drop went live and even then I got lucky with the timing.
