What healer should I pick?

Templar is the defacto Healer with the widest array of Healing focused class abilities. They're best for beginners. Other Classes "can" be good Healers but require people having a deep understanding of their abilities and building appropriately to compensate for what's lacking.

I've seen people say they Heal very well with Sorcs and Nightblades, but I have no experience.

Sorcs are excellent healers but you need a two pet build really

    Huh?

Technically I PUG dungeons on sorcerers with a two-pet build, as the Twilight Matriarch is the whole reason to use sorcerers to heal, and I tend to use a damage ultimate (on sorcerers the Atronach) rather than Warhorn or a defense/healing one.

But unless that's what you meant, could you please explain your version? :)

I would like to think they meant you have to give up 2 ability slots for the burst heal. No sorc healer is slotting more than matriarch in terms of pets, full stop.

As people mentioned above Templar and Warden are very good Healer classes but I would also add Necromancer to the list since it provides very high empower uptimes for DDs in Trials and since you usually run a Warden tank there's no need for a Warden healer atm.
Sorcs are a very solid 4th place.

I agree with this, and would go as far as to say Necro is currently the most valuable healer in trials just for the Empower buff. The 2nd healer can be any class, ideally not the same class as either tank.

I've been playing templar heals since early access. It's nice if you want easy healing. I enjoy necromancer more, and personally do not care for warden. For me, nightblade heals is a lot of fun. Haven't tried DK yey, but definitely plan to. If you're not confident healer then I'd suggest templar. Otherwise be creative, and play how you want. A good player can make just about anything really good.

The trouble is. Any class can heal, but Templar and Warden bring the buffs. No other class can buff and heal as easily.

Necromancer would like to say hello.

To look at it another way, the worse the other players are the more a Templar shines.

Extended Ritual’s huge AOE is great when playing with players that don’t know how to stack, and/or want to stand at maximum range from the boss. The quick res also goes a long way when clearly none of the DPS are going to stop their parse long enough to do it. Shards are handy to feed the tank while I have to run back and res the ranged DPS guy that insists on standing behind me.

I prefer Warden, but sometimes I wish I’d brought the Templar.

Templars are indeed default healers, but I will add like others have said that Necros make decent healers too.

I've heard that some groups look at you funny if you chose a Necro, because they can be a bit tricky to master, but they're very easy, and pull good damage on top of that. They have a whole set of skills specialised for healing, and the passives synergise very well also.

I've been playing dps for 5 years. And I want to try healing. In my raidgroups there has always been templar and wardens, rarely any other healer.

So now I ask here, is templar or warden the only way to go if you want to play hardest endgame, or are there other choices?

If not what do you recommended to start with warden or templar?

I have both, and while my Warden isn't quite ready for endgame content, I've learned enough about the differences in how they function that I feel pretty confident in weighing in on the argument of one over the other. IMO, the Templar healer is the easiest healer to play in the game, bar none. He has extended ritual which has a massive area of effect and he has a smart burst heal (Breath of Life) that, even in its nerfed state can still be a lifesaver. And templars have Blessed Shards, in addition to the orb, which make it easier to reliably get resource synergies to your tank and/or control where Olorime's glyph of major courage spawns. The warden doesn't have any skills comparable to those, and their heals are largely directional, so it makes it MUCH more difficult to heal effectively unless everyone stacks RIGHT IN FRONT of the healer. With that in mind, the templar is the better pure healer - i.e., he's better at doing the primary function of keeping people alive.

The Warden's advantages are that it brings better/more/unique group buffs. So if you see yourself as primarily needing to buff the group, and healing as only a secondary part of your job, then a Warden is better.

As an aside, I like the Templar's array of offensive skills better than I like the Warden's skills as well. If I set up one offensive bar and one healing bar on my templar, I feel like I can contribute around 20K dps or so and still continue to heal, depending on the encounter, whereas my Warden doesn't feel like he can get even close to that amount of DPS while maintaining heals and the buff/debuffs that the group wants.

Overall, I could be bias, but I think the Templar probably gets the edge as the best healer overall, but it largely depends on what your group's needs are. They may want the buffs more than the heals, in which case, Warden would be better.

Warden is the best at keeping people alive.
Necro is the best at providing damage buffs.

Templar is the best at getting people nostalgic for the past.

As a general rule, if you are talking meta end game raids, then templar and warden are the two safest bets going forward. That said, we have seen WR scores with other classes healing. However, it is usually really a 9th DPS that is slotted for a group buff, and one healer is really doing the bulk of the heals. For example, I think in the first Pad 3 VMOL HM burn I saw, one of the healers was a Sorc for the Minor Prophecy. I think Necro Healers are becoming more popular as well, but I am not sure I would deviate from Templar or Warden if end game healing is your goal without a specific reason.

Shards vs orbs has very real pros and cons, and in certain fights even templar healers opt for orbs.

Rule of thumb: shard for tank, orb for group.
