The two most expensive reagents are Corn Flower and Columbine. Max level alchemy writs do not use these (other than maybe in the 1 potion/poison a day you need to turn in), as the "turn in 3" item. They are very profitable in terms of building your reserves of the flowers you need to make both tri-pots and spell power pots. These drop from the surveys you get for completing the writs, as well as the other reward you get.
Yes, you will use up Nirnroot, Violet Coprunus and Mudcrab Chitin to do your writs, but you're turning them into other reagents that are usually more valuable.
