Gray Level 50 Weapon Drop

So, as the title says, I was doing Crow's Wood in Stonefalls and got a gray level 50 weapon drop on a top CP character. I've seen this happen to other players according to conversations in zone chat, but haven't been able to know why this is happening. According to TTC addon this (IMO useless) weapon is also selling for quiet a bit of coin, so I'm at a loss of whether this is a glitch or something intended (I'm going by the former, as weapons are supposed to drop at the character's level, and I believe it took the 50 level of the char instead of the champion points).

Outside of some characters show up as level 50 then they reach it, typically at end of random dungeons.
I think it says 50 until you pick up your level up rewards you will never be level 50, think you jump to cp 10 on an new accunt.

This sounds like some weird bug, not just an bug in the loot system as that would make it much more common and for something to be useless but valuable it has to be rare.
Was it just an standard weapon or was it of an set? who trait and enchant?

I have a screenshot, I just need to figure out how to upload it to the forum. It was actually a specific set piece, Red Mountain resto staff, decisive. I am unaware of the value of RM staffs or how useful they are, as this is not a set I've ever pursued (more familiar with MS, Briar or Defiler), so maybe the fact TTC is stating an average market price of 6-7.5k is not unusual, but considering it's a level 50, I'd say it's odd. Maybe collectors out there are collecting glitched pieces? Might be.

Still, it does seem like a glitch since it's not white (lowest possible piece), it's gray, and it dropped as level 50 on a CP 810 account. I'll try to figure a way to show the screenshot.

I will also add that I recently pulled one of these somewhat buggy items. It was also a Red Mountain restoration staff. I got it from a Psijic portal shortly after the stickerbook system was released. I can confirm I saw similar stats. Level 50, grey quality, not white as most non upgraded items would be.

@KalyanLazair - you can't upload screens direct to the forum. You'll need to host it on a free site like imgur.com, then get a link using the dropdown for Share links (on imgur - the only one I'm familiar with) - select the bbcode option for forums, then copy the code and paste into a post here.

You go to cp 1 (at least i did a few years ago)
But now it take so few exp chance are you will skip rigth trought the first few cp

All your characters, whatever level they are, are top CP (or 'whatever CP you have') and make full use of account CP. I´m sure maybe you knew that, just throwing it in to clarify.

I don´t know what you mean by "grey" quality. Anyway AFAIK they tried to fix stuff in the past so that weapon sets wouldn´t drop "inappropriate" stuff. Like restoration staves for medium armor sets. AFAIK they still do drop though.

So this sounds like a weapon that shouldn´t drop but somehow slipped through the cracks in the veil that separates Nirn and ZOS.

It is CP10 now, instead of CP1.

I was aware, I just didn't know how to word that my account is max CP (810), in order to clarify that all item drops should drop at 160CP, not level 50.

I had the same thing happen to me running vet Vateshran Hollows last week, wish I would of screenshot the white quality staff before I deconstructed it.

I have also had two of these drop. One about a week ago and one a few months back. I -think- they came from thieve's caches for me?

I received a red mountain staff like that a few months ago. I don't remember what sort of object dropped it.

Is it the Resto Staff of Red Mountain?

I had that one drop in a 'grey' quality as well - it seems really bizarre.

I know one of the patch notes mentioned something about Resto Staves of the Red Mountain not dropping so they fixed that, but it seems that most people are now only getting them in this quality. And it being grey is just weird, since grey isn't an item quality.

I guess that bug wasn't as fixed as they wanted it to be.

I can see it. It´s kinda hard to tell if it is greyer than the usual white but looks like it (comparison?).

I would guess it is basically a bugged drop. So save it for the Museum of Oddities once we get the Shivering Isles DLC...
