How does XP work?

Whenever I pull a pack of mobs and I kill them by myself I can get 20k xp. But whenever 3-4 additional players all kill the group of mobs at the same time I only get like 9k xp. Even though I make sure I tag EVERY single mob we pull. Does anyone have some insight on this? Sorry if it's a little hard to understand I didn't really know how to word this well.

Are you in an actual group? Groups get a small bonus to XP gained but it’s also split amongst all players. After 2 players the split XP decreases to the point that it’s not worth it for farming XP.

This is done to prevent groups from fast XP farming for easy kills and leveling.
