What is the point of PvP?

I'm trying to get AP on my warden healer just so I can get "war horn" ulti, and never have to got to Cyrodiil again on that toon. Yet I get no response to my "LFG" requests in zone chat. Do the hardcore PvP players [snip] Seriously...this is why all skill lines/kit/sets should be available to solo PvE/PvP. You shouldn't have to be dependent upon a group to enjoy all the facets of the game. If that's your thing, fine, by all means do so.

[snip] to think you should be able to automatically join a PVP group to carry you for AP just because you post in zone. Here is some solid advice. Take 5 minutes and look up a decent solo build for your warden. Plenty of them out there. A group is not required to gain AP or get the skills you need.

Just do battleground achievements(talk to the battlemaster)... You can spam BGs over and over. By far quickest way to get AP. Cyrodiil is boring as heck if you just want to push some AP... (I'm obviously a PvE player and can't stand PvP in general).

The "hardcore PvPers" won't be picking up random LFG's from zone chat.

They recently capped group size at 12 so it's harder for pugs to zerg and they are constantly getting face-rolled by ball groups.

If you are tired of typing LFG to no avail in zone chat, just start a group and pick up other LFG's you see, it's not that hard.

If you are just in there to unlock some skills, you don't really deserve to take up a group spot.

Just do battlegrounds to get your skills. As for the point, it’s fun. I find end game PVE in this game to be rather dull and uninspired. Repeating content over and over for high scores and grinding for monster helms. So, I prefer the surprise of PVP as each experience is unique.

I agree, just do battlegrounds. You will get enough AP by doing battlegrounds over and over again to get war horn.

    One thing to consider please,

In the pvp guilds I'm in we don't pick-up lfg in zone, pvp pugs, due to spying. It's common for some players/spies to feed the opposing team tactics, group size/make-up, & location.

    So join a pvp guild.

If you're there just to level a skill you may want to form a pug group or solocapping resources to lock fast travel for the opposing team and gain AP.

Look at it this way, would a dedicated trial group let some random pug they don't know join a vet trial group?

Pre12m group update times were simpler, & you would have been grabbed up I'm sure. Now to join a good group you should have a specific role: bomber, spin2win, support, negate, etc...

Hopefully this gives a different perspective.

Just go where action is and leech AP.

That's what I do with my non-PVP toons when I want to unlock Maneuvers.

And believe me, I wear no pvp build. Yesterday I was fighting with Prophet's Inferno and Homespun Hat. :D

There's a lot of action in BGs

I always found any action in Cyrodill to be far too short lived

Personally, I would blame the devs, as these are systems they thought of and green-lighted.

If you’re referring to a total separation of PvE and PvP, I’m going to disagree with you there.

Being a better overall player means dabbling into different playstyles ... even playstyles you may initially dislike.

It used to be easy to join a group, then they halfed the group sizes. Now everyone is coordinating in discord or their guild chats. So if you prefer solo Cyrodiil, you either have to follow the action and repair walls or build something out of the other LFGs. Problem is you'll probably be up against groups that aren't pugs and have healers :/

Personally I do BGs for AP. The modes are fun, and they are usually quick. I just go to Cyrodiil to farm honestly now 😅

Please don't remind me of that Tale as it was painful to get that passive lol. Dungeon after dungeon, pledge after pledge, I'm honestly glad I never have to do it again on my main.

Also OP when in doubt follow the battle markers on the map, listen to zone chat (yes, zone chat is useful in Cyrodiil), stick with the Zerg, and try to hang out on the front lines. Defense ticks award a TON of AP!

You do realise you can make your own group right? Also you don’t need to be grouped to earn AP you can just ride towards where the action is on the map and earn AP no problem.

You ask "What is the point of PvP?"

    I will answer

currently it is for zergfest with guilds on cyrodil or stack as many procs as you can with tankly build and let them play for you on bg if you are not top player with skill to be able to play without procs in current and already long time ongoing state of ESO pvp

Here's a report from a total PVP noobie - actually more of a PVP pacifist. I only recently started taking toons into Cyrodiil for the first time ever, mainly for the transmutation crystal rewards when you get 25K AP. I've already got four characters past 25K. You get 10-12K AP in about 10 minutes going through the training. You can get the rest in an hour walking around a keep or two repairing walls - that's my contribution to the alliance war - especially after you go into a delve and kill a boss for the 20 percent boost to AP earning. 100 keep repair kits only costs 8k gold - you can get that back selling a piece of gear you get as a quest reward in one of the towns you alliance owns. Or, as others have said, just go to the edge of a battle at a keep your alliance owns and get some AP by just being there before you get killed (or stay in stealth like some of my characters - sorry, it's shameful but they will be mowed down like skeevers otherwise). I have learned that the real action on Cyrodiil is groups, so I feel a bit left out because I am so bad at PVP I don't even try to join a group - it wouldn't be fair to the group. But I am getting the AP on each character, so at the end of the month I'll get the crystal rewards. Oh, and meanwhile the assault skills have risen up to at least 4, for that vigor and war horn, just naturally.

Yeah I'm sorry, I understand how stuck healers must be now but most groups don't have the space (or patience tbh) for random lfgs. I'm there to win a war, not be a source of easy ap for someone I'll never see again.

Start your own group, read the map and rep keeps. Being solo is not so scary and ap is easy to get.

Honestly if all you want is the skills...fix walls. I'm serious. Equip whatever you can to increase your heals, do spell power pots and try to get Mending trait on you and go fix keep walls. If you go kill a delve boss first it'll give you an AP buff. I have gotten a dozen toons their alliance skills just by fixing walls. If you don't want to get caught up in a fight, when you hear the first seige attacks hit the keep you're in just sneak out the other side and go to another one. It's boring but you don't have to deal with hate whispers for not being a challenge or getting teabagged because someone had a bad day at work.

Many guilds do that, mine included. we are a mostly PVE guild, but we have a weekly PVP day, we take resources, maybe some keeps and just have fun. With the bonus AP buff from killing a delve boss, most members earn all the Alliance skills they need in one or two outings. Many come weekly now, since they earn enough AP in a couple hours to buy a helm or shoulder off the golden every week.

Point of PvP is to have fights where opponents have greater intelligence than a housefly. (Or at least not much lower like AI.) A properly balanced PvP game is a bliss. Too bad no MMO PvP is properly balanced because the progression stapled on it.

As other's have said, the recent changes have pretty much broken Cyro for casual players. The cap on group sizes means it's virtually impossible to get a pug and the changes to healing means that if you just "follow the action" you're going to get owned. Organised groups now have a massive advantage in any engagement and PVP is really for organised pvp guilds, a 12x12x12 BG.

If you need to make some quick AP though it's pretty easy. Just go in at / just before prime time and look where the action is. Use the transitus network to go anywhere that's "UA" and not yet tagged, has just come off tag, or where there's been some fighting (crossed swords). Repair a wall (just one will do). Put your toon in sneak and go make a cup of coffee. That'll get you the defence tick. Sometimes you'll need to do this a few times, sometimes once - I got 57.5K off one engagement the other day.

The key things to understand (as far as I have been able to work out - other's can correct) are that

    - the defence tick doesn't come until a couple of minutes after the last enemy death around a fort, so you can get in and still get it after the fighting stops

    - all you need to get the tick is to "tag" the fort by doing a single repair. Alternatively "tag" an enemy player who subsequently dies.

    - you can only be on one fort's tick list at a time. But you can tag a fort, then head off to get a defence tick on an outpost, or capture the resources around the fort and still get the tick.

Been doing this to level up a couple of newer toons and get rest to tier 1 / 3. Works like a charm. never have to lkill (or be killed) by anyone. Most of my toons never even set eyes on an enemy. Yes, I know, it's leeching, silly, completely defeats the point of cyro etc etc etc. In my defence, I used to take pvp seriously and was in cyro every day fighting for my alliance for 2-3 hours. I wasn't the one who decided to completely cripple casual players in cyro...
