Anyone that plays Magicka Necro, please help

phil.maricel08ub17_ESO
Good evening all, and Happy Holidays!

As far back as I can remember, any MMO that I've played, I have always played Necro. All the way back to my Spiteful Spirit Necro in Guild Wars, all the way to now. Even though I enjoy, running dungeons and other PvE content, I cant for the life of me enjoy myself in PvP content whether its BG's or Cyro. OMG it feels like we are the easiest target and left unable to defend or return any pressure. How are we left to only be viable in one aspect of the game which is PvE? Any input, suggestions, or builds would be greatly appreciated.
ZOS, please look into all of your class both MAGICKA and stamina, and not leave one side so lacking.

Magcros are only viable with broken proc sets or if you are trying to run as few necro skills as possible. A stat based light armor sub 30k health magcro in pvp is probably the worst you can play. I literally played a stamblade without weapons once just fist fighting and it was performing better in bgs then my magcro.

Since they took away the vampire stun its super tough. People called it broken back then but it was the only way for magnecro to get some stun working.

OMG, my favorite SS necromancer in Guild Wars 1! Damn, but I loved that character (and that game). Takes me back to happy days...

I’m afraid I can’t be very helpful for your question, though. I’ve fooled around with both magicka and stam necros, and now I’m slowly leveling a tanky necro, but so far they haven’t appealed to me as much as wardens do. I, too, keep hoping to find the right necro mix. Following.

Like someone said above the only viable way to play Magcro in PVP now is with proc sets Blackrose Vateshran Oblivion’s Foe Malacath etc in heavy armor if you don’t want to gimp yourself even more considering how bad the spec is compared to any other classes.

Another crutch for Magicka Necromancer that I predict will soon be nerfed even more. I don’t even slot Blastbones anymore or any grave lord skills. Just AoE dots dots dots.

As long as they refuse to buff and fix the class with multiple feedback already given they keep ignoring the classe will always grab the next crutch. The class can’t stand on it’s own on the magicka side compared to every other classes that don’t need to rely on procs and crutches to perform well.

Imagine designing a class with 95% of the damaging skill line being utter crap in PvP. 100% since Blastbones can still bug out and the secondary effect is useless :D

I am magcro, I like BGs and I was not in Ciro. With that said, I think that your build is just not optimized for PvP, thats all. Magcro is not limited for PvE only at all.

Try to build around most burst damage possible and do not forget defence. Use sets, destro staffs and SnB (like SnB from willpower set) with right traits to get damage and damage mitigation, use shotgun Avid Boneyard, Blastbones, totem/clench, ghost for another 10% damage mitigation (there is set called Buffer of the Swift which gives you 10% mitigation too, combination of skill and this set is good), spamable - force pulse or skulls (people say thay are to slow, but I like them personally just because animation is so fun), resistence flesh, summoners armor - or another morph, to get people into your shotgun Avid Boneyard area of damage, goliath. You need trait harmony (synergizes well with Shotgun Boneyard, hehe), impen seems to be a good trait too.
    So dont give up! :)
Let's be extremely precise in our use of terms.

    Some thoughts:
    • No game after Guild Wars that I know of had a skill system nearly as rich.
    • ESO nightblades are as similar to Guild Wars necros as ESO necros are.
    • The ESO skill most similar in effect to Spiteful Spirit is probably the templar skill Unstable Core ...
    • ... but it's not nearly as strong as Spiteful Spirit. It's single-target, it's short-duration, and of course in PvP ...
    • ... it can be cleansed.
    • If you want to play anything resembling a typical magicka PvE build in PvP, you should probably look to heal ...
    • ... but even then survivability is the huge challenge.

I agree with revokus on the points of the class on its own cannot perform in pvp because it isn’t even fully designed properly. There are little synergies between its own skills that make it hard to build for damage. The survivability is amazing and that is something you can always build around. We have a purge. With good healing to cover the cost of purge if you decide to run.( i usually never do) i have played magcro without harmony for a long time and i will recommend that it is the weakest playstyle to go ahead and play just due to the amount of stalemates you fet in 1v1s and 1vx. It lacks alot of pressure but can still kill someone without buffs. Bright throat jewels all infused spell damage and two peice body. Before this patch i ran new moon but now you can use void caller set ( magicka fury) for extra damage in 1vx. And also if you need tankiness i would run engine guardian instead of balorghs. One your a necro and your blastbones body blocks for you if you position good. And now you will have engine guardian aswell for extra blockage. The dot build with malacath is definetly the most strongest build for magcro and we have literally no viable dots besides skele arcanist and thats a pet so idk how that scales. But what i do know is the 15% extra damage we get on dots does push the damage output of all procs higher than any other class so there is that. Also if you’re going stat based you want to have atleast 35k max magicka and 3k spell damage buffed i tested on pts in pvp. I always use spirit mender and i die less using it i dont even feel the 10% mitigation from the other morph. Living death and resist flesh are the core best heals. Best proc 1v1 build is 2 piece maw of infernal 5 body icy conjurer 2 rings your choice the. Malacath ring ofcourse ( 25% more damage 15% dot damage from passives and 20% dot damage not including 10or 12 % from magick passives in cp and your dots and status effects will melts people.) brp destro front bar ( preferably fire for 1v1s and it has extra 800 execute damage but lightning is fine for groups it can increase damage by 30% and frost is cool too minor prot.) and vateshean ice staff backbar for extra resistance.

If harmony build run the max spell damage build i mentioned before and you will be good to go just slap harmony on your jewels.

Good tanky sets for magcro and viable

Daedric trickery ( used it befoe the changes it was almost 30% healing 75% uptime) now you can get 32% or 3 major buffs at one time very good for surviving.

Buffer of swift ( has good synergy witht our damage decreasing modifiers such as dot damage 15% decreased when we have armor buff up. And etc. and spirit mended for extra 10% reduc) major buff efficiency on one abilitt and a set.

And eternal vigor ( my last patches favorite set i put infused spell damage on this ASAP because of the recovery it gives you max magicka and stamina just like your undead confederate passive that gives you 200 of each roughly with tripots you can dip into all resources and increase them with eternal vigor making you a little bulkier and resourceful.

Overall the class is in noway shape or form complete. There needs to be more upfront approach to certain playstyles and easier enablers. If there is a damage build with harmony and the grave digger cant one shot anymore than make the class scythe an execute for instance. Give more options to apply dots to moving targets and not just ground based abilities. But i am happy overall with rhe experience gained of the class and i hope you get better and enjoy the game. Just recently came back again and having a little fun.
