New horse version (v3)

The horse was one of ESO's very first mounts and has since seen some updates. Yes, many other mounts have emerged in the meantime with better modeling and better animations. Smoother animations next to a horse making very "robotic" or jerky. A change should therefore see the light of day for the most classic mount that is the horse.

For those who want examples, the first version was: Sorrel Horse, Imperial Horse, Palomino Horse...
Version two has the same animation as its predecessor, but the modeling has been refined: Snow-Blanket Sorrel Horse, Silver Dawn Argent Charger, Holdbreaker Warhorse.

It seems that we have just moved on to the third version of the horse with the Akaviri Potentate Charger... Finally, I imagine that phase three has been brought into play recently and that of the Potentate may not be the one l 'having inaugurated. I come out of my cave on the question. : /

The changes in the animation skeleton are much more visible in pause than in running / walking.

Third try and not the charm. Still looks like crap. Also the third model started with the Greymoor pre-order horse and the Legion Zero Destrier.

It's just a shame that the majority of mounts in this game are only obtainable through the cash shop and loot boxes. Time to change things up, Zenimax.

There are truly 3 versions for the horses, but the last one was added in 2019.
But one thing I don't understand - newer versions have a static mane when the old one have an animation, but all of them (and also elks, indriks and ram) still using the same animation skeleton. Seems like I know why most of new horses have a covered neck. :D

Yup. Which is why they keep on looking wrong, because they keep putting new clothes on the broken and misshaped form.

Every single game out there has better horse models than ESO.
Basically, people buy ESO horses despite them looking like trash just because they want a horse, not because they like the model.

Now that I have it back to back with an image of an actual Horse, what is up with the ESO Horse's hind legs??

I wouldn't go that far. One thing I've noticed recently (and then had confirmed when I discovered The Mane Quest) is that horses in games are often badly done, and surprisingly difficult to get right. A lot of games, including a lot of otherwise very good games, have pretty poor horses. (Annoyingly including some where horses are a major part of the game.) If anything ESO seems pretty average in that respect.

Thank you, I was coming by to mention that the Potentate's is actually (possibly) v4, but you did it for me, and with pictures!

Agree about the manes. It's really transparent why most of the horses have armor there. 🤣

If you're going to include horses as mounts in a fantasy MMORPG, then to my mind you should do them appropriately. You should model them on the basis of the best conformation you can find. ZOS has not done that. And as a very long time horsewoman I am absolutely appalled by the travesties of horses foisted upon us.

I'm pretty sure that the horses were modeled by the same person who does a great job with dogs...and they think horses should be built like dogs. I mean, they all have four legs, right, what's the big deal? :eyeroll:

I actually think it's a problem with the skeleton, not the model. They've been using the same skeleton from the v1 horses for years.

Id be happy if they would just fix the back legs on the horses, indrik, and elks.

lol that makes a lot of sense actually

For real though, how hard can it be to find a 3D artist who can model a horse
