Buying houses with gold?

How do you buy directly with gold? I mean without using crowns in any way. I read somewhere that there are many houses purchasable with gold. I also read somewhere that houses need crowns, converted or otherwise. Which is the more accurate account? And if the former is possible, can someone post a link or a small guide?

PS - I changed the original topic because I realised it was not worth discussing.

Simple version is some houses can be bought directly with gold, just enter them and I think its F5 for purchase options(it should show an option to buy with gold, an option to buy with crowns and a slightly more expensive crown option that makes the house come with furniture), a lot of the smaller ones can be bought for gold right away a few of the bigger ones are linked to achievements before your able to buy them with gold.

But most of the bigger or new houses are only purchasable with crowns but they have added the ability to gift houses now, so you can trade gold for someone to gift you the house you want but with crown to gold exchange rates(anywhere from 150 - 300 gold per crown) you will need a considerable amount of gold to be able to get them that way and need to find someone trustworthy to buy such a large amount from.

I don't know how up to date the UESP is, @Biscuit_290 ... but it should get you started.

Most housing can be bought directly with gold except for Crown Store exclusive homes.

Up until the most recent DLC update (Markarth), house gifting was not available in the game.

Now it is ... and another player can gift you a house using their crowns. You pay them gold in return.

As always with any large transaction, make sure the other player is reputable as a crown seller.

And, be sure to take screenshots of the transaction.

Using a crown broker (such as Tamriel Crown Exchange; TCE) is highly recommended.

Just so we're clear, some houses are crown only, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, when you go to buy a home, there's a dropdown box on the purchase window where you select whether to buy with crowns or with gold and it will give you the price for each. This page has them all listed and what price they go for.

This is a link to all available houses, clearly marked in gold, crowns or if they're currently unavailable for purchase.

Buying directly with gold is a case of just traveling directly to the desired house/apartment and buying it. If you're looking at flipping gold for crowns you'll need a seller to sell you the house and you hand the gold over to them. Depending on your platform, discord is a great way to go for this, using a broker for a safe transaction. This is a pretty costly thing though, so depending which house you're after, you'll need a lot of spare gold.
