I'm a day 1 ESO player on PS4-NA and have never seen a Gamemaster "Z" nor do I know anyone else who has seen one. Has anyone on a council ever seen one or do they just play on PC ? Wouldn't it benefit the game as a whole if they played on all platforms???

What councils are you speaking of?

They have made their presence known, but it is extremely rare. I do not think Zos has actual GMs as we know them. It is probably just some Zos people hopping into the game with the tag to make it look like there are GMs.

This link is probably the last time I have heard GMs entered the game.

I was aware, but thank you. Pointing out how rare they appear sheds good light on the likelihood of seeing them on any platform. The time before the one I noted was in 2014. So yea, they pretty much do not exist as we have known them in other games.

Never seen one on PC NA...
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Got two in game mails from gms in the past.

😂 This one time there was a bug and game master non combats were showing. Hard to be invisible when pets are showing.

That one day someone took a picture of gamemaster rain destroying bots all over a zone. It was the highlight of the forums.

There's also that island for them.

Only time was back in 2014. At the time they didn't have the icon next to their names. Never seen them since.

Only time I ever saw a GM was at the very start to remove the massive influx of hackers that was plaguing the game at the time. I think they sacked them all when they closed down their Cork HQ in Ireland after the hacker plight was dealt with.

3 platforms, 2 servers on each...24 hour game play...i'm not even sure how many zones there currently are - 40 to 50 maybe...

even is they are there, chances of running in to one are very very slim...

I've never seen or heard from anyone ever running into one on PS4 in all of the years that I've played. I'd love to see one appear on the starter islands and just purge all of the bots. You can't miss them. They're so blatant.

I saw 2 different game masters on ESO back in 2016 on PS4 EU. One is in Auridon and the other was in pvp. I never saw a game master after that.

Never seen one on PS4 NA in my 6 or so years of playing, and don't know a single soul who ever has.

We have an impressive army of farming bots all over the place, though. *rolls eyes*

I've never seen one. I think the note on loading screens is mainly so that other people can't pretend to be GMs and scam players.

I think that like most modern MMOs ZOS have tools that let them monitor the game and interact with it without having to actually be standing there. (Or possibly they can appear invisible too.) Whenever I've had a support ticket resolved they've been able to do it remotely, none of this waiting for a GM to pop in like in ye olde days*.

It might also be something they can turn on and off, so they only appear as GMs when they want to. I know the staff in Guild Wars 2 can do that, they use a modified guild tag and that game lets you pick a guild to represent, so they just switch guilds any time they don't want to be recognised. (Or turn it on in WvW - their version of Alliance War - because it's a great way to distract the enemy.)

*aka the late 90's/early 2000's when I played Ultima Online.

I seen one years ago in Alik'r. I think their presence would be very useful but then again if they see something they have to act so I can see that job being quite the task if it was routine.

I saw one on PC EU in the early days, warning people in a delve to stand back and then running a ban hammer sweep of those who didn't move away.

I suspect that ESO Support operates the same way that many games do these days, namely by having a central pool of staff that log into whichever server is needing their attention rather than being resident on one server, and usually doing so fully invisible in order to observe players rather than interact with them. Also, the way that data logs are maintained these days coupled with the advanced tools available to Support staff probably means that most problems can be resolved without them actually having to log in to the server.

On pc, they were in the game. It was during the "bots camping dungeon bosses" time; so many toons with names like "asdf" and "hjkl;" standing around waiting for the boss to respawn and killing it in literal seconds. I was trying to complete the dungeon but couldn't get a hit in on the boss before it was dead. A GM showed up, warned anyone who was a living player to move away, and nuked all the ones that didn't. Pretty sure they don't have to actually be visible to do stuff now though.

Incidentally, I also recall one or two games where there used to be resident GMs on individual servers and there were issues over them becoming rather over-friendly with a few of the "top" guilds, with the result that there were corrupt practices leading to disciplinary action against both the GMs and the guilds. There are definite advantages in GMs not being tied to specific servers or visible to the players when they do log in.

I suspect they don't need to physically have a character model to do what they need to do. It would probably be counter productive since people would gather around them and just cause chaos.

When Disney World was made they made a decision to build the utilities under the ground so that things like emptying bins and routine maintenance activities could be hidden from the publics view in order to not ruin the illusion for people.

Like others have pointed out here there is evidence of lurkers - they are just not in our faces to ensure that nobody ruins my immersion :)

That definitely happens in other games. If they show up they end up with a crowd of people around them asking stupid questions or begging for gold and free items.

Sometimes I think they don't mind that, because they're just hanging around a town, but I can imagine if they want to get anything done and especially if they want to monitor player activity they'd probably appear invisible...or just check logs rather than appearing in the game at all. Again I'm not sure about ESO but I know other MMOs basically track everything players do so they can do things like create 'heat maps' of where players spend the most time, which combines data from all the copies of the map and across longer time periods, rather than just going off what a GM happens to see when they're online.
