My friend, who doesn't have a forum account, asked me to post this question.

"It's been two weeks, and people are still waiting for fixes for game-breaking bugs. Is patching delayed until after the holidays?"

if I could make another character, their name would be Cries-For-Character-Slots. AKA, I need more.

Isn't Maintenance for hardware? Patching is for software, for updating the game.
They used to be separate, unless something got changed without my knowledge.

They do both at the same time if both need to be done. They have never organized them so they were always separate.

When they do patches they also do maintenance. If they really need to do maintenance but do not have a patch ready they do not wait.

Quick update to show that previous answers were incorrect!

Just to clarify real quick: the maintenances tomorrow are server reboots and will not include any updates or patches. The next incremental patch will be in January, but we don't have the exact timing yet.

No one reads Patch Notes, we're only concerned about Natch Potes.

    Close the thread, please.

Well, banner says "maintenance", not "patch maintenance", so why would there be patch notes if there's no patch?

I think you'll find that the green comment you quoted was in reference to a single maintenance window last year and does not refer to every single maintenance window. In fact, the comment almost confirms the previous answers you received because the commenter intimates that if the previous patch was also available during the maintenance window they would have applied it; it wasn't, so they didn't.

Moving on to answer your question, Patch Notes are typically released after a patch has been completed, this way, if they have to roll back the changes for any reason they haven't announced what has been done only to retract the statement. And, although, it would look likely (hoping) that today's maintenance would also include the long-awaited patching to crashes and other recent bugs, there is no way to know exactly until after the weekly maintenance has been completed and any Patch Notes or Natch Potes have been released.

    This is correct.
It always states "patch maintenance" when there is a patch being deployed.

The green comment he quoted was posted yesterday and referred to today.
