How does Christmas, a pagan/christian celebration fit into Tamriel lore?

I see a few posts about christmas decorations for housing but christmas trees etc are not part of eso lore. The fact that we even have snowmen and christmas decorations packs boggles the mind ....we never see the decorated trees in any of the nord homes which i assume is where they would be...i dont see many pine trees in khajiit, argonian or bosmer, dunmer or altmer, redguard areas.

It would be more appropriate to introduce a similar holiday that is more in keeping with the races of tamriel traditions and flavour rather than copy a human tradition that is based on human religions.

I guess it fits the same way Halloween does. Nobody seems to complain about the Witch Fest.

It's a game, and out of all the TES games, ESO is the least strict with its lore.

It all started with TES:Arena, of course, and Arena's lore was closest to IRL, such as having Christian-looking crosses on each side of most city gates, or having NPCs who refer to "Marduk the Good," etc. Most fantasy RPGs, especially the earliest ones, are heavily grounded in or patterned after Medieval and earlier culture, beliefs, etc. Even things like werewolves, vampires, and zombies are taken from IRL beliefs, superstitions, etc. Considering that TES games are designed by human beings for other human beings to play, it seems perfectly natural that ideas and things which are readily familiar to human beings are going to show up in the games. No one ever stops to gripe about the fact that we see apples, grapes, and bananas everywhere in ESO, even though Nirn is not Earth. As far as lore and lore-breaking are concerned, I'm more upset about players who occasionally talk about wanting to have automatic machine guns and laser rifles in ESO than I am about any resemblances between the New Life Celebration and the Witches Festival to IRL stuff.

Pretty sure it isn't called Christmas in game, now is it? It's the New Life festival.

And it doesn't even have the same lore as IRL christmas does.

Not too sure what your post is complaining about. All I can say is it sounds like someone didn't do the festival quest and just assumed it would be a 1 for 1 of Christmas with santa and everything.

Where does it say Christmas in Game? Its called the New Life Festival, basing it on a real world event which is happening around the same time makes it easier for people to understand it and take part, it catches on a lot easier than creating a from the ground up fictional event, they can just copy paste Christmas decorations, traditions make a few alterations and done.

People mention Christmas decorations for furniture packs because its the easiest way to describe what they are looking for.

SWTOR has their Life day event going about now, fairly sure most MMO's have their own version for marketing purposes to sell stuff to people since many will be at home during the holiday season.
