Why can't I role play in an RPG?

I have a templar that uses magic and bows. They use Pelinal's Aptitude set. I don't do vet dungeons with them. Probably won't ever be accepted but for now that is the way of things until something about hybrids is changed maybe. I don't know.

Play how you want works great when you are alone, but if you want to play in a group, well not so much. In a group, you need to put the needs of the group ahead of your own, or said group might not want you around.

Fortunately, it is very easy to build multiple specs into the same character.

So thats my charcter (play how you want)... Well maybe in single player, but in a dungeon with others, they would kick me, make fun of me, or just saw I suck...

So, therefor this is not an RPG... we're just playing ROLES that Zenimax is forcing us to play...

ROLE playing does not mean "ROLE" as in Healer/dps/tank .... It is supposed to mean "PLAY HOW YOU WANT"...

Just my 2 cents... had time anyway since they put me in a BUGGED dungeon and when I left the group got a stupid large waiting penalty of 13 minutes...

You can play how you want, and others play how they want, not how you want.

That is literally the essence of the slogan: Play like you want, not play like random internet guy wants.

I love roleplaying with my characters as well, but I wear serious gear for serious content, leaving the outfit system to look as if I wear heavy armour. I believe if I lived in the world of Tamriel, I would want to be a strong as I could anyway, so you could look at that as a form of roleplay as well. Almost anything can fit into rp with imagination.

Wow so much replies and positive feedback and idea. thanks!
But when an Event like the Undaunted comes out... I have to do Another TOON just for that,
Make that toon meta and grind... can't play the event with my main :(

I just wish they would do dungeons maybe with different mechanics on all enemies like:

    examples would be:
    Enemies in this dungeon:
    - do double damage (so you would need maybe 2 healers or 2 tanks)
    - can't be Taunted (So tanks are not needed)
    - can't be Debuffed (Maybe less Mag and more stam?)
    - Healing is halved ((so you would need maybe 2 healers or 2 tanks)

    etc...

Making dungeons have different variety like this would change up the usual Tank/Healer/Dps/Dps format... which is getting tired... I dunno, I feel like I am not playing anymore and that Zenimax is telling me what to do and how to do it and without Meta, some CROWN leaders will just Kick you during an Event where you need to go into veteran dungeons.

I not a game designer, I just know something needs to change in an RPG when it becomes like this at end game...
where your character that you ROLE PLAYED the whole time is simply useless in VET dungeons because you're not following a "ROLE"

Sounds good in theory, but in practice it turns out like this:
    - double damage, more one shots. instead of 2 healers, you bring zero because you can't heal a one shot. players need to dodge more.
    - can't be taunted, we see some of this like in Direfrost Keep. While some bosses can't be taunted, they can still be debuffed so tanks can still help out somewhat.
    - can't be debuffed, without solid buff trackers (and even with them), the majority of players won't even know if the enemies are debuffed or not. Does that boss have major breach on them? What is its defense value with or without breach on it? Ask 100 average players what the uptime is on off balance and see what their answers are.
    - healing is halved, again like the first example instead of bringing more tanks or healers you just play more defensively and might even go with no healers instead

ZoS already elaborated on this meaning. Google it. You can play how you want but I am not going carry you thru any vet

dungeon. Maybe a normal. But everything else naw. As well player base sets the metas as gear changes and nerfs and buffs

go about. This factor of MMOs will never change or never has changed. If they had jack of all trades which I know wouldn't

work well for vets those get first vote kick between me and my other two mates.

Seems like you could hit 30k DPS relatively easily even in heavy if you are using a bow and 2 hander...not great DPS, but enough you wont be kicked from any groups for terrible DPS for anything short of vet trials

For what it's worth, I wouldn't vote to kick you. Nothing you've told me about that setup screams to me "can't complete this 4-person dungeon." It's very possible to make magicka characters work with stamina weapons for most content in the game - I've done it myself, albeit not on that class. If anything, I applaud people who are creative in this game and make it work.

I'm sure you could make that build work in the lion's share of content. You won't be on par with other more focused DPS (and shouldn't be). But you ought to be able to still put out decent numbers with a good rotation/gear and CP. I've personally made hybrid characters that wore heavy armor with high health and health recovery that could still do 15~20k dps. So jack of all trades characters are possible on this game.

Even in a solo RPG you can make something that absolutely doesn't work.

    Yep.

I have no idea how this got only mine awesome, it makes me chuckle every time I see it.

PS u can easily do 10k dps even with the most troll to build, which is definitely enough for normal.

where your character that you ROLE PLAYED the whole time is simply useless in VET dungeons because you're not following a "ROLE"

Honestly, you've got a heavy armored Magplar with bow/2handed.
You ought to be able to figure out how to fill one of the roles well enough to do a normal dungeon for your event rewards, and still preserve your roleplaying build. Maybe even Vet for the extra rewards.

Tank: heavy armored character who taunts the boss and survives the big hits. You'll need a taunt, but honestly, this should work for your build.
Healer: heals people, Templars have a whole skill line dedicated to healing, so you don't even need a Restoration staff.
Damage Dealer: practice with bow and 2 handed on a practice dummy until you do 7 to 15k DPS for normals, about 15k DPS for easier Vet dungeons. Higher DOS allows for more comfortable clears.

If you can't or won't do any of those, I can't say I'm surprised that some players balk at carrying your build through a Vet dungeon, especially if they were hoping for hard mode. It might be time to practice in normal dungeons first where the DPS requirements are lower and players usually have lower expectations. And hey, you'll still get the event tickets in normals!

It's absolutely play as you want, so long as you're effective.

If you aren't, to whatever standards are out there (the minimum one being able to finish whatever content you're after), then you should probably premade with fellow RP'ers.

It's equally not unreasonable for someone to expect fellow group members to be capable to a certain minimum standard. For most content, that bar is already set pretty low.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

I've been on the same boat as the OP, I've been playing a magplar healer in heavy armor (for the tankiness) and using stamina weapons (note that they now scale with your highest resource). It was fun for RP but super weak dps (heals were p strpng though). I respecced to stamplar so I don't gimp myself that much, and it's been great so far.

Solution is to either have multiple characters, with each dedicated to certain playstyle, or keeping several sets. On pc, addons allow change whole sets/skillsets with 1 click. This way I can be good healer in dungeon/trial, mediocre dps for questing, with fully roleplaying and even have separate setup for sneaking.
