New mechanic in Arx, endboss? (vet HM)

Ran it as a tank with a pug today. As usual I lured her onto the Island in the corner so she won't electrify the water and kept taunt on her. One of the dps guys who kept dying was yelling at me for not letting the taunt drop before I reapply it. Normally I hate letting taunt drop on the boss, but he insisted it's a mechanic on this boss, where she won't listen to taunt if it's reapplied before it has run out.. So basically I had to let it run out and have taunt dropped before reapplying. Is he right about this? I've never come across something like this on other bosses, so it must be something new for the Arx boss. Does anyone know?

the boss will ignore taunts for a period of time while targeting another player, so the guy was wrong on his part it's not your fault.

I've never heard of this, maybe they were confused because that boss is semi-tauntable, and will aggro on another player regardless, throughout the fight. Also, if you keep her on land, she will get a shield and be harder to kill, if she touches the water, she won't have that shield on her health bar.

Yes, this is how I understand it as well.. I like to keep her on land facing away from the water and get her screaming into the corner only hitting me, that way I can protect the group. Keeping her in the water usually ends up with the pug crowding the island together and getting hit by her scream, or they stand in the water and get electrocuted.

There is a good explanation by @code65536 on another thread that I can't find, but here is the gist of it:

When the boss goes to another player, the game will apply a "ghost taunt" on the boss. For taunt immunity, it counts as if another player is applying the taunt. That is why if you keep refreshing your taunt before it runs out, it may reach the current taunt immunity mechanic and cause the boss to be taunt immune.

So, on top of doing the regualr "chase other player" mechanic, she might be "loose" and focus someone else for extra time if you keep doing that.

It is a very annoying boss to tank and it looks like a very old implementation but the player was kind of correct.

Hopefully someone can find the thread where Code explain this in detail.

Hmm... Interesting. So in a way the tank is not the only player applying taunts when another player can ghost taunt her.. So I wonder what's the right thing to do. Let my taunt expire before reapplying or refreshing it before it runs out?

I'm trying to find the post, but really can't.

You don't really need to let it expire. I think you only need to wait 12 seconds, so you can reapply in the last 3 seconds or something like that without triggering the taunt immunity (but might be wrong).

AFAIK, this is the only boss in the game that behaves like that. It is not something that happens anywhere else in the game.

Last boss of Direfrost has some very weird taunt issues as well, but I don't think it is the exame same thing here.

If you do that, she will still chase some other player, but you can get her back as soon as her scream is over (tanks that don't know that usually have her "lost" for several more seconds after the scream due to the immunity).

Yes, that's what I normally do. Some overlap to make sure I don't drop taunt. And like you say she'll return back to me after she's done her random player attack. Don't think anything has changed though seeing the comments I get here, so she probably has the same mechanic as she always had...

Then you are likely doing it right.

I sometimes go in there after a few beers and listening to music, not really paying attention, and lose her sometimes. If she comes back to you right after scream, she is no getting the immunity.

And yes, I believe this is a very, very old mechanic, since the dungeon was released, basically or close to that. Not new at all.

But like several other mechanics, sometimes it takes someone explicitly telling us about it actually notice it and seeing how it works exactly. I personally tanked that dungeon for years before figuring that one out.

I'm not sure about taunt immunity, but she does run after random players and scream. The random player just needs to block and the player will survive. If they don't block and have lowish health then they will die.

You do want to move her into the water though. If not then she will shield up and take forever to to kill.
    Playing since beta...

Really easy boss that honestly doesn't need a tank, not sure why anyone would take the time to complain.

Taunt immu mechanics , random direction deadly screaming .
Block may save the player but not 100% , the screaming damage is too high for non tank , 1st scream attack can also stun the player likely .

Drodda of Icereach in Direforst is same , taunt imu mechanics

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ7s26S5_ak

From the video , you can see the boss just ignore the tank and attack other people .

Sentinel of rkugamz in DC 2 as well , taunt imu when he enter spinning phase , good luck to non tank :D

Arx has a great final boss.

You should keep her in the water as otherwise she'll get a fat damage shield and only put her on land before the 'rain rocks from the sky' mechanic.

Saying that, you said you ran a PUG so don't blame you for going the safer route.

Yeah, the scream mechanic targets random person, regardless of taunt.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I didn't get this dungeon often but eventually I noticed that as a tank player, if I let the tingling sparks shoot through my body with the boss her shield is nullified. The dry land is for your team to stand on and tanks get to play in the water for that boss.

    Ive never bothered either way.

I tend to just tank her on the edge of the island she starts at (in the water), so you can kite on and off the island easy, and I just tank through the damage and mechanics etc.

Its up to the other players to keep themselves safe from the mechanics, but the boss also cuts lose sometimes and just attacks someone, you cant stop it as a tank and perhaps this confuses some folk who arnt tanking.

Sorry I could not reply to your posts lately as I got banned from the forum. Many thanks for your suggestions and comments. I now know better how to tackle the Arx boss.
