Steam is awesome and i esp like how they make it easy to access a huge library of games.

Even more awesome is how they support playing games on linux with no real configuration from me to figure things out. just activate steam play and select the proton i want to use and blam! I have Elder Scrolls Online running on linux seamlessly. And as a plus up, my off branded after market controllers just work. That's not a thing i have found to be true when playing ESO on windows. I have tried to use my controllers with ESO on windows without steam and they just dont work. Thank goodness Steam is there to solve all these riddles for the best Elder Scrolls Online experience ever! Steam def deserves some love for all they have done and continute to do for the gamers out there.

That is great. I prefer to eliminate potential issues which there have been many playing ESO via Steam. Glad you like Steam so much. I know my friends that played via Steam wanted to ditch it so bad when they were not able to log into ESO yet the rest of us were able to.

I had that issue once, but learned from a guild mate that you can open the ESO launcher independently of Steam and since then haven't had it, even when Steam is down for maintenance.

I'm glad you like Steam too, @linuxlady

However, having another thread shut down in the forums doesn't always give players a free license to start another thread on the very same topic.

    Tread lightly.

That is good to know, thanks for the info! I tried launching ESO the other day from my Linux distro (Arch Linux) using Wine/DXVK and it wouldn't even launch, instant crash. Before the last update I never had any issues, and performance was always on par and sometimes exceeding Windows 10 performance. I usually go the route of manual config since I am on the ESO standalone launcher. I too have had great success with Proton in the past -- I may install a game from Steam and enable Proton, then just a matter of copying the files over into a Wine config. Do you know if Linux Steam has an option for adding a custom game using Proton? I haven't tried that yet, your topic sparked the idea so it may just work. I'll give both a go next time I try it. :)

While they definitely provide some useful conveniences for gamers, they like to stick their nose into what I'm doing too much for me to like them. :/

Sadly that seems the case for all online anythings for reals. can only imagine what zos and bethesda collect about us while we play...
