ZOS: PLEASE USE RANDOM NORMAL.
Player: Clicks random normal on level 40 char. Immediately gets put into a vet group trying to recruit -> locked out -> can't zone in and has to leave.
ZOS: Crown store fix away.

Three times in the last three weeks I have been put into a Veteran dungeon while queueing for a Normal.

It wasn't even a Random: I queued for a specific Normal dungeon, and was put in the Veteran version of that dungeon. So it doesn't just happen on Randoms.

In each case I checked my Dungeon Finder settings before, during AND after the dungeon: it remained resolutely on Normal each time.

Now, I am a level 50 character with over 400 CPs, so I was able to handle the veteran dungeon... but some of my team mates were similarly caught, and were not.

One thing I have noticed is that it is never the group *leader* who is caught by surprise this way: the leader always seems to be aware it's a Veteran dungeon. However, all three of the other players (myself as tank, and two DDs - the healer was assigned the captaincy) in the team in my recent run of "City of Ash II" believed it was Normal. We ended up having to abort the run.

In fact, back in August, my first ever Veteran dungeon run was intended to be a Normal, and I was thrown into a Veteran run after queueing for a Normal. It was Wayrest 1, and I literally did not know it was Veteran until I got to the end and was awarded an Undaunted Bust instead of an Undaunted Trophy collectible - I had only just hit level 50 at the time. The same has since happened to me more recently in Imperial City Prison, City of Ash I (both of which I completed with difficulty) and City of Ash II (which was aborted when the team couldn't kill Urata the Legion and her ever-respawning clones). In each case, more than one player in the same run was convinced it was a Normal.

It's not necessarily putting you in vet dungeons. The group finder thinks the dungeon is vet but it's really on normal. I know this because after the vet players left the dungeon I was able to enter on a under-50 character.

    Look, I told you.

IT. IS. PUTTING. PEOPLE. IN. ACTUAL. VET. DUNGEONS. WHEN. THEY. QUEUED. FOR. NORMAL.

I have the Undaunted busts for Wayrest Sewers 1, Imperial City Prison and City of Ash 1 to prove it.

In all three cases I queued for Normal.

In all three cases I was not the only person who thought it was a normal.

In the case of Imp City Prison, I found out halfway through when the group leader said.

In the other two cases I genuinely believed it was a Normal right up until I got the Undaunted Bust from the final boss.

It is putting people into actual normal dungeons (in terms of difficulty). You may get the busts for the same reason that players with <50lvl can't join the dungeon - the game somehow thinks it's vet instead of normal because the person who happens to be group leader has his group mode set to vet.

This bug appeared to my alt as well. Queue for random normal dungeon (lvl 40 char), other people are on their CPxxx chars that queued for random vet, we get put into the same dungeon. I ofcourse cannot join because the game won't let lvl 40 chars into vet dungeons so they are forced to kick me.

Can not confirm whether that dungeon was in fact veteran or not.

    @perfiction: Sorry, you're still wrong.

The dungeons were VERY DEFINITELY veteran in terms of difficulty - the group leader, for whom it actually said veteran, confirmed this. Veteran things were happening that didn't happen in normal. Monsters had veteran-level health, and veteran-level big-hit or autokill moves that they simply don't have in normal, moves which are the signature difference between veteran mode and normalmode.

PEOPLE WHO QUEUE FOR NORMALS ARE BEING PUT IN ACTUAL VETERAN DUNGEONS. What is so difficult to believe about this?

And by the way... As a final kicker, the Scroll of Glorious Battle (or its equivalent) was actually available (and was used) when we reached the final boss. It is not present in Normal. This is final and absolute proof that it was a genuine, honest to goodness, bona-fide Veteran dungeon that we all got put into, when three of us had been queueing for a Normal.

Posting here because this is the first thread I found on the issue I created this account to report on.

Since this happened a few days ago I cannot remember in full detail everything that happened just before the clip I am sharing. However, I do believe I had an unsuccessful ready check prior to the one that got me into the group I was in. Again cannot say for certain so I'll just keep my eyes open to if this problem happens again in the future to provide more info.

Otherwise here's the link to my clip: https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/ser-xanthos/video/115778086

    Forgot to mention:

I read through the thread that was shared above and from the looks of my clip and my memory of the situation it seems as though there is some accuracy to what they are saying. I will add though that I don't think it's solely the fault of the group leader. I do believe there might be a problem with having other level 50 characters that then provide your under level 50's with CP. Unless someone can report to having this bug on an account with no level 50's and/or CP then I think it involves both sides of the grouping. As far as I have read in these threads everyone that has had the problem have had other level 50's.

Those are the ZOS names that came up on autocomplete, so apologies if you are not connected to this department, but this bug has been going on for months now .. I have stopped doing randoms on my alt under 50 characters because it was happening so often and me getting a punishment time delay on re-queuing, that I gave up.

However, with the Undaunted event coming up I will want to utilize all my characters to participate in the event. That gives just weeks until the system will be utilized by greater numbers and under greater load, and we know how the group finder already has a history (in whichever iteration it is), of collapsing under load.

This is yet another case where information about a bug has been supplied many months in advance of an event that relies upon a system to occur. Will it be forgotten again this time?

    It already has been.

    No mention of it.

I am unsure how they couldn't see this as a big issue when they literally made Random Normal the most efficient and quickest way to get transmutes. I don't see why people wouldn't try and squeeze as many Randoms even on lower levels just for a quick 10 transmutes. I know I do. Guess i'll go back to cheating the que with multibox accounts to fix the bug.

It's doubly annoying because the best way to get transmutes is to do random normals with three high levels and take a newb along so you get an easy dungeon. This is making it the bug even more irritating than it used to be.

(I like the take a newb along mechanic.. it may be unintentional but it has a good effect)

There is a similar thread on here about this. If you look in the group settings page (console here) there is a dungeon difficulty setting, normal or vet. I don’t know if that has been here all along and only recently implemented, or was added recently.

I don’t know why it is there. We queue for normal or vet dungeon in the group finder. It sounds like this group setting might be causing interference if the person who gets picked as leader has their group setting set to “vet” but queues for a normal dungeon.

The setting has been there for a very long time and for good reason. It’s used to enter a dungeon on your preferred difficulty independently of the queue. It is the only way to differentiate difficulties for trials (including arenas), which have no queue. It can also be used to set Undaunted dungeons to the preferred difficulty so you can enter with fewer than four people or with a premade of four if you don’t want to deal with the queue. Otherwise it would not be possible to control which difficulty you get in these scenarios if you want to run without the LFG finder.

The setting has its purpose, and it’s worked fine for several years. If it is part of the issue here, as some have speculated, then it is the group finder at fault for incorrectly using information from a setting that is meant to be completely independent of the LFG system.
