Depends on the guide. Champion points round down so if you slot points in and don't round out the whole number you waste those points.

So if you have something at 1% it'll give you that 1% boost, but if it was at 1.99% it'll still give you 1%.

Due to diminishing returns, you probably want to spread them around a few nodes before piling up 1 or 2. But not all nodes are worthwhile, so the guides can help there.

The nice thing is you can invest those points on any other toons you have now too, even if they haven’t hit 50 yet.

That's really up to you, and you don't need to do it the same way on all of your characters.

What I tend to do-- which might not be "the best way"-- is look at the perks for each of the nine constellations, decide which of the constellations' 10-point perks I want to go for first in each of the three groups (Thief, Mage, and Warrior), and then start putting points into those three constellations using a more-or-less even spread.

That is, there are four bonuses you can spend points on in each constellation, but for a given character I might not care about one of those bonuses, such as a bonus related to light armor or medium armor on a character who wears all heavy armor. So for a given constellation I might put points into only three of the four bonuses, but on others I might put points into all four.

Once I get my first 10-point perk in a given group, I decide whether I want to start going for another 10-point perk in a different constellation, or continue working toward the 30-point perk in the same constellation. Then each time I reach whatever perk I'm going for, I keep repeating that process of deciding between the next level of perk in a given constellation or switching to a different constellation.

But sometimes I might be interested in a given constellation's perks but I'm not interested in any of its bonuses on a certain character, or I might be interested in its bonuses but not its perks. In those cases I have to decide which are more important to me on that character-- the bonuses that you spend points on, or the perks that you get after spending a certain number of points in that constellation. (I don't know whether my terminology is "correct.")

Other players may do it differently, and you can apparently get some pretty extreme "outlier" results by investing heavily in a given bonus and not any of the others for a given constellation.

If you aren't sure how you want to spend your CP, you might consider logging in on the PTS and experimenting with different build scenarios there. Or you could experiment on the live server if you don't mind paying a fee to respec your character in the event that you change your mind.

untill you get your fist 160 cp are kinda useless in that you don't really see much in the way of effects. untill about cp 300 you are still gaining max stats from putting your cp in. this is also where you start to be able to survive in craglorn trials and harder content. cp 600 is where you start to see more diminishing returns to you cp and where you can really start doing vet dlc trials.

as people have mentioned before cp suffers from what's known as jump points they always round down the best way to allot your cp under cp 810 that i have found is alcast's cp calculator. it will tell you how to spend them to get the most out of the cp you have within the jump points. here is the link to it https://eso-skillbook.com/championpoints/calculator
