I had 500 crowns left in my account from crowns I bought almost a year ago and decided to gamble when the New Moon crates where up 2 months ago... Got the New Moon Camel....

Maybe I was lucky to get a decent drop but I am not ever spending money on crates. They are like a slot machine, designed to make you lose.

Kind of sucks if you want something and that's the only way you can get it. For myself it wouldn't occur to me to spend money on in-game cosmetics. You should see my Antiquarian house, it's got 4 chests a banker and a merchant. I haven't really seen past the front lol.

don't buy crates unless you actualy are interested in all or at least most of that "trash" and not just mounts.

seriously, they even give you an opportunity to see all the items that MIGHT be in crates. it doesn't mean that specific items are guaranteed. so assume you are NOT going to get anything in 400 gem tier, let alone radiant apex and then calculate if the rest of that stuff is worth it. assume that if you WANT one of the 400 gem mounts, that you will have to spend 400 gems on it.

You bought them. ZOS thanks you. In the future, do research before buying.

    crowncrates.com

It tracks actual crates opened and compiles the data so you can make informed buying decisions. ZOS doesn't want to publish the odds (for obvious reasons) so players do it themselves to help others.

For what obvious reasons? Because its the right thing to do? So many games publish the odds but zenimax refuses.. Hmm.

But ya you just shouldnt buy them. They are disgusting imo, and its also disgusting that the coolest mounts in the game are locked behind rng loot boxes with zero light at the end of the tunnel for acquiring them. It should never be that way, there should always be a way to get something in those boxes.

The crown gems were a great idea (for an awful idea to begin with) but then they destroyed it with radiant apex rewards. Its just awful tbh. So much lost potential in offering great things in game, only to put them in rng boxes. The crown store is a black hole and there are so many amazing things that should be available in game, even if the grind is difficult, as well as on the crown store. But thats not zenimax.

The obvious reason? They have something to hide from players. They don't want players making informed decisions. That's how loot boxes work. They wow you with flash, appeal to human desires to be rewarded and they intentionally hide the odds of winning.

I think it's just nice that players are doing what ZOS refuses to do and keep the community informed.

As long as players continue to buy RNG boxes, ZOS will continue to pump them out.

I think it's personal choice. I do think that there should be limits to prevent people with gambling issues. I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted but at least you might be able to get something good with the gems.

    STOP ruining the game.

The game doesn't even work, unless you like pressing a skill and having it fire 3 seconds later... And your buying crowns?! Dude...

This post will get deleted because I'm attacking the crown store.

you can still make an informed decision. assume worst case scenario for every crate. we do know that the worst case scenario is 4 items, where 2 consumables are of the 1 gem variety, and 2 items are from 16 gem tier, returning 5 gems if you get a duplicate. assume you are going to get a lot of cheap duplicates. look at the crate offerings. consider if you want any of the 16 gem tier items. look at 40 gem items as well cause you MIGHT get them or at least want them. concider how many of the items brought back in crates - you already own (increasing chance of duplicates at reduced gem value)

assume that anything in 100 gem or 400 gem tier are things that you will only be able to get with gems. calculate from that point. 100 gem tier items are typically around 3k crowns IF they are purchased directly (with exception of motif books). 400 gem tier items are around 5k ish crown value. forget trying to get radiant apex - chances of actualy getting it are about nonexistent, so don't assume that you will ever get it.

so. given all of the above. is it worth it to buy crates just for a mount? no. not really. you MIGHT get enough gems to buy one of the 400 gem ones from 15 crate purchase. but chances are high enough that you will probably not. so unless you want a whole bunch of other, cheaper stuff in a crate? you can make an informed decision about this one mount you want that is going to cost you twice as much as a direct purchase. you can also make an informed decision about letting go of getting a radiant apex and just learning to accept that it will NOT be yours. the way I personaly have accepted that I'm never getting any of the vet hardmode vanity rewards from trials.

you don't need to know the exact odds to assume that they will ALWAYS favor the house and proceed accordingly.

    dirty worthless casual.

Ahaha, whenever I wonder why I can’t buy more items directly, I can refer to threads like these! I hate most of the crate mounts as they are, IMHO, over-the-top ridiculous, but there are some pets and costumes and occasionally emotes that I would really like but I have never bought a Crown crate and I never will, because if I can’t sell or even trade in items I don’t want at all (not talking about duplicates), then I’m NOT buying it. :unamused:

I don't have much of a problems with the crates as they currently are. I hadn't ever gotten any other than those they used to give for "free" via monthly and ESO+ rewards, but decided to buy 15 the other week with some of my leftover crowns. Ended up getting the bear mount (not a huge fan) and a few other random pets and cosmetics; reminded me that they can be fun if it's of interest, but there's nothing game-breaking from them.

I agree with this sentiment. We know the odds are long that we will get the top prizes. As such, it is asking for disappointment spending any amount of money on them. Heck, I could not imagine spending $150 on them regardless of how much money I had.

If it makes you feel better, many people spend that much money on a weekend of alcohol and have nothing but a hangover to show for it afterwards. Its poisoning your body for fun afterall!

I have to wonder how much money people here critical of you have spent on alcohol or smoking...

I spent $30 on crates wanting the Seneche or at least value for moneys worth of gems so i can at least possibly buy it.
Nope i got 8 box's of nothing but poisons and 1 gem items..

Should be illegal to rip people off so badly in a game they are paying a sub for plus box price.
Makes me wish i was in Belgium where Zenimax would get done in a big way for it, guessed we just have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up.

Don't gamble money you can't afford to loose..
As long as crates just have stuff that is nice to have and not need to have, I have no issues with it.. but dont complain if u dont get the stuff you want. Crown crate is roulette and house always win.
