can we get an aoe taunt?

Give tanks one aoe taunt. Put it on a 20-30 second cooldown and give it a 10-12 meter range.

ESO is built for no AoE taunt. Mobs, how dangerous they are, their amount, etc etc, are balanced for no AoE taunt. While it might be more comfortable in some fights, it is definitely not something I would like in game, because I like the current combat system, and adding aoe taunt, will mean future mechanics that take it in count, forcing me to waste a bar space on it.

This would also absolutely fix the Tanking Frost Staff Debacle.

    1. Change Power Bash skill in the S&B skill line to an AoE ability (Proc Crushed Enchant)
    2. Add to skill AoE Taunt and while slotted blocking cost Magicka.

    1. All group content in ESO has been tanked successfully a great many times without an AoE taunt. This is because the game was designed not to need one. For players new to tanking in ESO it is better they learn to tank correctly in ESO than to rely on a crutch and not learn to tank properly.

    2. Outside of recent tests in Cyrdodiil, ESO is built on not having a cooldown on skills. The game is build on resource management.

In most MMORPGs, a tanks job is to tank the priority targets, not everything. Those are targets that are the most threatening. ESO is no different.

I guess I'm divided on this. I like the idea of aoe taunt, but not a stand alone ability as it would be a waste of space on our bar. I'd rather see a passive that adds additional threat generation to all aoe/cone attack damage.

I would like an AOE taunt! It's not needed at all if DPS is good, but an aoe taunt can really bail out lower dps players.
Also sometimes I'll notice dps player running around with agro, and most of the time I can't and won't chase you around so I can taunt, but some sort of aoe taunt could help that situation too.

Perhaps add AOE taunt to Frozen Gate (the Warden skill), and have multiple enemies teleported to me, because that skill is knocking on useless in my opinion.

There is kind of an AOE soft taunt of about 3 seconds. As long as the tank gets the first damage AOE (I like caltrops) those hit by it will target the tank. If only the DPS could wait a second or 2 for the tank to use an AOE.

I tank on a necro or dk and they both have an AoE CC. For them there is just no reason for an AoE taunt. Maybe if it was a class skill for a templar, that has no beneficial class tanking ability, i might be in favor of it. It seems like the intent was to have DDs to do more than just DPS parse.

The tank is suppose to prioritize targets just as the DDs and healer are too. Take the last couple trash mobs on fang lair. Its meant to keep every member busy, it is the make it or break it moment for a No Death Run. With an world skill that is an AoE taunt it would trivialize those kind of situations.

The Tormentor set is supposed to AoE taunt, but I haven't tested it yet.

As for an actual AoE skill, it's not needed. ESO tanking is fine without it if you know how to manage adds.

I have tanked with all classes. Early on I preferred to tank on a Templar and NB and in neither case did I find a need for an AoE taunt. I

In trials, the most challenging content in the game, the use of an AoE taunt would cause serious issues. As I stated earlier, it is best for players new to tanking learn to tank correctly instead of relying on the crutch of an AoE taunt.

    NO, BIG NO.

Please stop dumbing down this game
PvP is already ruined with cast time on ultimates, proc sets, carry sets/skills and now the cooldowns.
The combat system overall suffers from measures to make it easier all the time.
Don't ruin dungeons as well now...

Edit: tanks don't need an AoE taunt in eso. Decent tanks in a decent group won't even see the difference in most content. But switching single target taunt for AoE taunt, that destroys the system the dungeons are build around.

at the very least, as stated above, this game could use added threat generation off tanking abilities. at least some of them.

it amazes me this dichotomy of "tank mast tank only dangerous targets (in other MMO's tanks actualy hold ALL the targets) while also holding everything in place so that DPS could AoE it down" how do you have both? especially when tank damage is so low, your dps needs to be REALLY low not to pull off tank. naturally if dps is high enough, mobs that were chained do not have a chance to scatter before they die, however, most dps are somewhere in between and that creates situations that are far to stressful on everyone and prolong the encounters more then necessary.

tanks could really use extra threat generation other then couple of single target taunts.
    dirty worthless casual.

An AOE taunt without major changes to dungeons and trials would simply ruin this game. It would make dungeons and trials even more trivial than they already are.

As many people have said every time this is brought up. The game was not designed to have any class with an AOE taunt. The tanks are suppose to taunt the bosses and the most dangerous mobs. The dps are suppose to mow down the trash and the healers heal and maybe do a little dps or tanking on the side

If tanking in ESO is not to your liking there is always world of warcraft and other games that might be a better fit or just go with the flow of ESO.

While I don't care much either way, as I see my Tanking as really good so far, I feel like some of you are purposely and fraudulently conflating other legit undesirable changes with what is being discussed. Understandable from a argumentative standpoint, but baseless in any other way.

AOE taunt would be helpful for various situations, more or less so depending on content, groups, and situations much like many other skills/abilities. Again not really *needed with high dps, but otherwise the way I see it, I would use an AOE taunt to bail out damage dealers because sometimes the ads are actually the main problem. All of the content can be done without an AOE taunt, but it would be unquestionably useful situationally.

Not once was there mentioned proc sets, animation canceling, pvp, other MMOs, wanting everything to be easy, or some sort of learning curve of Tanking.

This continues to be an issue, regardless of other factors.

The decision appears to have been made to deal with dual wield DPS, but it hurt tanks. It also hurt Dual Wield DPS far more severely than (probably) intended, because it effectively nerfed their enchants by 75%. They lost the off-hand enchant, and their enchant was halved.

Now, obviously, we've adapted, but it was still an issue that feels like it might have been better solved by simply blocking weapon enchantments from stacking with themselves.

Please not! They are already making this game easier and easier every update. Tanking can be lots of fun in Eso and it would be completely ruined by just entering a room, press taunt-all button and block until your DDs have cleared everything.

Eso's special combat system makes it interesting. Why are people calling for AOE taunts, stop animation cancelling, only one skill bar etc.?
If you want to play a simple no-brainer game, please just play something else, but stop ruining this game!

I have never really considered the trash mobs in dungeons big enough to feel a need to use an AOE taunt, don't know about trials I don't really bother with them.

That and there are at least a few dungeon boss fights with multiple bosses, that you need to keep apart can you imagine having a new tank, during March of Sacrifices with that 3 boss fight spamming their new shiny AOE taunt and wondering why the group keeps wiping, or the ogre bosses in Scalecaller peak probably others but those two spring to mind.

If they added an AOE taunt I would be more likely to use it farming mobs for XP in overland/public dungeons etc..

The only acceptable form of aoe taunt would be an ultimate ability (new undaunted ultimate perhaps). Other than that the game doesn't need it as long as the tank taunts priority enemies (enemies that hit hard/one shots and bosses). Trash mobs can be locked down and even without locking them down they are not worth taunting.

    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    1. Change Power Bash skill in the S&B skill line to an AoE ability (Proc Crushed Enchant)
    2. Add to skill AoE Taunt and while slotted blocking cost Magicka.

As long as #2 is for SnB skill line. I don't want ZoS to ruin ice staff blocking for me by forcing to slot an ability I don't want to use.
