No Damage Mitigation before Shields at Lord Falgravn

So, one curious thing about the fight with Lord Falgravn (last boss in vKA) that I noticed is the following:

By default, all my sources for damage mitigation, except those that are related to blocking, will get applied to my incoming damage before the damage is substracted from any damage shield that might be active on me. Say, for example, I have a 10k Igneous Shield active on me and I am receiving a (non-Oblivion damage) attack of 5k base value; then my Armor value will influence how much points will be substracted from my shield, since first the 5k will be mitigated by my armor value, and only after that mitigation the remaining damage will be substracted from my shield.

In the fight with Lord Falgravn, however, things seem to be working differently. Namely, it seems that the damage from both the "Poisoned" DoT and the "Unstable Energy" DoT will immediately be substracted from any active shield on the Main Tank, and only the excess damage will be subject to the usual damage mitigation formulas.
(I am having a bit of problems to reliably pinpoint a complete list of circumstances when this phenomenon is happening. For example, I can confirm that this is happening for shields from Igneous Shield and Defensive Stance on the Main Tank that were provided by the Main Tank, and also for shields from Ingneous Shield on other players that were provided by the Main Tank. I am not 100% sure at the moment if Empowered Ward or Dampen Magic / Harness Magicka cast by a DD show the same behaviour with respect to "Unstable Energy". I am also not sure if the same is true for the Claw attack itself, as here also block mitigation after damage shield comes into play. Moreover, I was wondering if this phenomenon might be related to Mystic Guard instead of the Falgravn fight itself, but looking at some instances on the first stage, even without active Guard the same phenomenon can be observed with respect to the poison DoT).

My questions are:
1) Can anybody else confirm these findings?
2) Does anybody have an explanation what might be happening here?
3) Should this be considered to be intended or to be a bug?
