Build Question - Looking for Opinions

I have a number of different builds I've set up that work great for me, that I can easily balance my RP/Lore with the builds I've set up. It's pretty important that the builds I use make sense with the character I'm also trying to run, especially since a lot of the content I do is alongside of people doing the same thing.

I've recently ran into an issue, however, on my primary character that I play solo. I'm running a StamPlar, and I'm trying to do a DW/2H build with them. The "lore" of this character completely removes the option for staves and bows (ESO bare handed skills when???), but now that I'm looking into builds to better handle larger dungeons, I'm hitting a huge wall. The higher up I move in content, I'm starting to hit that struggle of my sustain being terrible and my ability to not get crushed in the dirt is getting harder and harder. I've tried focusing on recommended gear sets (like Hunding's Rage for example) but I'm not seeing much if any difference. I've also had the suggestions about vampire/werewolf stuff thrown my way, but vampire is a hard no, and werewolf is an "only if absolutely necessary" thing.

I will admit right off the bat that in researching the best skills and gear set-ups, I've managed to confuse myself to a point of frustration, which is why I've turned to the internet for build ideas. A lot of the builds I'm looking into focus on 2H/DW frontbar, and bow on backbar. I fully understand that bow is ideal for heavy AOE DPS, but, I'm not running a bow and won't run a bow on this character; trying to find set-ups that don't have a bow on it that are up to date with recent skill/set changes is near impossible. I have a good understanding of how things work with sets and traits, but trying to put things together correctly is where I'm hitting a roadblock. I'm confident in my rotations and timing, but out of all the classes I'm running it feels like getting the Stamplar to work for me isn't as easy as my other characters.

Would anyone be willing to make suggestions here on what I should be looking into?

Briefly looking at the Alcast builds, the only reason he has to use a bow is for Endless Hail.

Now, don't get me wrong, Endless Hail is a powerful DOT and most other skills you can slot in its place are going to be somewhat of a DPS loss. If you replace with an AOE like Caltrops or Deadly Cloak, you won't be as optimized as you could be...but that's okay.

Honestly, for a 2H/DW build, Alcast's builds really only use Reverse Slice/Deadly Cloak. I would try replacing the Bow with DW, switching Endless Hail for Deadly Cloak, and see how you like it. If you don't, try substituting in other AOEs. You do want to keep Reverse Slice for the execute damage as there's not really a good replacement skill for that.

Vicious Ophidian is a trials set that is not too hard to acquire that will improve sustain significantly. Another crafted set that gives improved sustain is Daring Corsair, which reduces your weapon skill costs by 10%. The Stormfist monster set gives stamina recovery and does reasonable and cool looking damage. If you are still struggling badly with sustain after using those sets, you can also switch the enchantments on one or more of your jewelry to stamina recovery. You can also use the Serpent mundus for stamina recovery. You can also use a stamina recovery food like Dubious Camoran Throne or Arteum Takeaway Broth. If you use one of those foods, you may wish to enchant a piece of your gear with health, so your pool is not too low.

I wouldn’t recommend using all these things together, since you will likely end up with perfect sustain and almost no damage, but use as much as you actually need to get through content.

If I was running your setup for solo play, I would probably use the two hander on the back bar with Rally for a heal and brutality, Stampede for an AOE damage ability to proc my weapon damage enchantment, and possibly Brawler for the damage shield. Repentance for healing and stamina recovery when enemies go down. Then maybe Barbed Trap or Turn Evil from the Fighters Guild line for the damage passive and utility. Empowering Sweep for the ultimate.

Front bar would be the dual wield, with Jabs as my spammable. One of the Twin Slashes morphs, either healing or additional damage. I believe next patch will be good for one of the morphs of Hidden Blade. I honestly haven’t been paying a lot of attention, but if I read correctly, it will have a strong execute. If not, maybe Whirling Blades. Then Barbed Trap or Turn Evil with Camouflaged Hunter for the passive. Then you could put Flawless Dawnbreaker as the front bar ultimate for the passive damage boost, and even use it for the active damage boost if you like, or just fire your Sweep from the back bar when it’s ready. You can go full damage with double damage over time poisons if you don’t mind spending the money on them, or a poison enchantment with disease on your weapons. You could also swap out one of the weapon enchantments for the stamina recovery one if sustain is a bit low.

This is hardly an exhaustive setup, and not likely the best possible, but you could play around with it and adjust the skills as needed to make a serviceable setup that works for you.

You can make an awesome build with both dw and 2h on your bars, that does great damage and has great survivability.

Will it be to the same standard as the meta? No of course not, but you can certainly get a build capable of handling vet dungeons if you wish. The main reason for the use of a bow is to utililise the bow aoe, endless hail etc. This is also used to proc your back bar glyph, which will usually be a weapon damage one, or should be per most meta. Not using endless hail is essentially a dps loss, but you can use other skills in its place, caltrops for instance (much less damage but same kind of thing).

I am unsure what value there is in myself or for that matter others who likely have more knowledge, going into great detail here, as there are so many variables no one can say definitively "do this".

But, if you are struggling to stay alive, which you hinted at, then the 2h skill Cleave morphed to Brawler, is really all you need. The more enemies you face (and hit with it) the bigger the shield. With that and Vigor from the Assault skill line, its almost impossible to die to anything other than a big one shot mechanic.

If you are trying to put together an rp build that is good at high-level dungeons/trials or a good pvp spec...It isn't thing. RP is not considered when making content (difficulty wise) for eso. It just isn't. In fact RP as a whole is looked down upon by most of the community, and this is seen through game development as well. It is very unlikely that an RP build can pull high enough dps to not be carried through end game trials (such as vcr or vhof) and pull its own weight. Im not even a pver, but ive played eso long enough to tell you that this is the case

There are plenty of builds out there that are good for stamplar. For pve the best setups use dw/bow. However i doubt that you'll be able to tie your RP into the sets that you choose if you are trying to get through high-end content. Skills is a maybe. Its just how the game is

Edit: This post would be much better suited for the role-playing section on the forums. There will probably be better answers that might be able to give you what you are looking for

Been really enjoying bleed builds in PvE.

    Blood Drinker
    Pillars of Nirn
    Selene's

I use Two Weapon and Two Handed on my StamBlade with this build and it works pretty great. May also work with StamPlar if you are willing to give it a shot.

Bringing your Roleplay build to content for which it is inadequate and expecting the group to carry you without asking beforehand is looked down upon, much in the same way that, well, showing up with an inadequate build for any reason and then expecting others to carry you is looked down upon.

Which is not to say that players should avoid roleplay builds. There are lots of non-meta builds that are quite effective.

Rather, it means they need to know their capabilities and then either stick to content for which it is adequate OR join up with players who are willing to carry them in content for which it is inadequate.

Its basically a matter of being considerate to your group. Which is true for meta and non-meta players alike.

You basically just confirmed that not everyone "looks down" on "RP as a whole" :)

I'm just going to be honest, I run a bow on backbar for my stamplar out of necessity. Roleplaying is fun, but that aside, if you want to get into more difficult content, there are going to be encounters that force you into ranged combat, meaning your DPS will drop to 0 if you do not have a ranged option (i.e., if you do not have a bow equipped). So I just go bow back bark basically out of necessity.

I've heard that dual melee builds can do a truck ton of damage in different phases, but they're really less flexible due to the need to have to stay close to your target (not always a possibility).

Just do this, but run 2H on the front bar, and DW on the back bar. Use Deadly Cloak with Blackrose DW instead of Endless Hail with vMA bow.
Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.

Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.
    ---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.
