LF a good, non-luxurious home/base camp for a scruffy merc

Hi all...

So, I've literally never done anything with the housing system before but over the past few years I've amassed a whole bunch of random furnishings and designs and such, and I thought I'd finally check it out to see if it's something that interests me.

My character is a Nord dragonknight, I just do quests and solo content, not an "end-gamer" at all. I do a sort of scruffy RP mercenary style, sort of like a mix between Bronn from GoT and Uhtred of Bebbenburg from Last Kingdom... someone who just does whatever it takes to get paid and increase his reputation in the process.

Are there any good merc homes out there that aren't too extravagant, but not too tiny either? I don't want a hovel or anything, but I don't want a huge stuffy noble home either. Something that kind of looks like a good base of operations for some sort of fledgling mercenary guild, where my mounts, pets and "followers" (i.e. crown store NPCs) can hang out to guard my spoils of war.

Any insight would be appreciated, thank you.

Oh, and location isn't terribly relevant, but maybe preferably something in the Skyrim area, or at least somewhere in more "central" Tamriel so I couild strike out in any direction where the mercenary "action" would be.

Cheers

I immediately thought of Autumn’s Gate as well, when I read the post. Twin Arches might be good too, not a Nord design or area, but somewhere that seems like a good place for a merc to settle, with lots of work in the nearby town.

Old Mistveil is 300/600 I believe - a large with a typical large house price.

Suitable for a small guild I suppose, but for a lone wolf mercenary Autumn's Gate is a fine property.

A more militant look would be the spacious medium house Mournoth Keep, and near a wayshrine and a giant!

Autumn's Gate sounds perfect. It has a real cabin in the woods vibe

Mournoth Keep was one I was looking at before going with Sleek Creek for convenience (and no regrets on the choice, and I consider Sleek Creek my trade hub). I still want to get Mournoth, and set it up as a war camp type of place. It also has a wayshrine convenient to it.

Autumn's Gate is another I've looked at and would eventually like to get. As mentioned, it has a really nice vibe to it. I'm new though, so eventually for me is really going to be quite awhile. Too many other things needed than more housing.

If you get Greymoor, the antiquarians would also be epic as well as everyone elses suggestions and is large but can be made cosy. There's also Forsaken stronghold and Hakkvild's High Hall which is notable size but the main area is compact enough not to feel overly opulent and it's pretty down to earth Nord.

I actually just found Forsaken Stronghold yesterday almost by accident, and had a look around. It's a bit on the bigger side of things but I think that'll be the place, once I save up a bit more gold.

It reminds me a lot of Helgen Keep Reborn from TESV:Skyrim modding, it's got a nice mercenary hold vibe to it. A nice place that looks kind of abandoned a little bit, tucked away in a corner, and with the chaos going on in Tamriel I guess I could justify my rags-to-riches merc buying such a place because the nobility owed him a few favors and the price of real estate has plummeted with all the wars and Daedra running around everywhere.

Also I like the fact that it has a decent sized exterior I can put stuff in, to make the whole thing feel like my property and not just a simple house or fort.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Mournoth Keep is also a good one. It has a wayshrine right outside the door, I think one of the closest in game. Its a handy home to port to for fast travel. Its less expensive, gives a taste of a reasonable sized home.
