Maelstrom weapon drops need adjusted

This isn't about perfected gear, it's about taking at least twenty minutes for ~1.3% chance on any given item from the 78 weapons. Getting all of them would likely take hundreds if not 1000+ runs.

A token system is something that should definitely be in the game. For all content. No ones asking for it to be given out, but if you've ran CoA 100 times you deserve a BSW Inferno Staff.

It honestly feels like the devs skew the drop rates for particular items. Doing the same piece of content over and over is mind numbing.

What we need is the questers to come in here and complain. Then we'd get change.

I've made thread and post about this from years.. Hopeless fight buddy.

Meh, I don't see how this is different to any other set apart from the newest dungeon sets.

I have wanted a UI lightnings staff for as long as I can remember. Countless solo runs in Arx. Just because it's possible to get normal runs as a fake tank, the likelihood of the other players being CP160 and interested in giving me their drop is pretty low, and queuing as a DPS outside pledge day is likely to take 1hr plus. So solo it is, and the drop rate is horrendous. The new sytem is superb, because I can bind and forget. If an old set suddenly becomes BIS I've hopefully got the save. Of course it's a shame for those of us who have deconned thousands of items to free up space or from a dreadful set, but hopefully it gets the older dungeons and zones busy again and boosts the trading system.

In the recent skyrim event, I ran 10 toons through nKA for double transmutes, twice, so 20 runs. I have on a mule right now, every piece of gear in that trial, normal grade, a few Perfected too. Also did the same with the overworld sets on another mule, all found, did that over the course of an event doing dailies on 4 sometimes 6 characters per day over a week.

It is not as impossible as you think, and people that will just decon something will often hand it over if you ask politely. People will no doubt not be willing to hand over items if they need them for their own collections, but all these silly weapons like 'VO Resto Staff', once collected, they'll be given away at the end of every trial. Garbage items will become useful for a small window, then after that, traded to fill somebody elses collections.

I think the benefit of this system will not be seen immediately, in a few months after launch you'll probably find at the end of every dungeon/trial people posting their weapons for collections, unless its the item they want and a good trait. If they already have the item collected, and they have found another, but a bad trait, it is probably going to be cheaper for them to reconstruct it than transmute it.

One idea I could get behind is a smart loot system, that would increase the chances of other items dropping.

For instance, Stamina gear - Once you have a VO Resto / Inferno / Lightning / Ice collected it will never drop ever again, increasing your chances of other items dropping instead. Each set gets a few of these weapons as 'once only' meaning as you find them, and they are collected, they are wiped from the loot table. Should you ever want to make a VO Resto, you have to reconstruct it.

Per character? Per account? And what if you need two of that item (if you ignore the fact that we get the sticker book in a few weeks).

Who determines what item is desirable? Are tanks only allowed one Alkosh shield ever? Healer can only get one Hircine resto staff? How about a Plague Doctor lightning staff?

That's the thing the RNG doesn't care what's meta. And what's meta changes over time. If you'd told a tank 3 years ago that they'd need a lightning staff, they'd probably laugh at you.

So a "smart loot" system would have to let you tell it what you want. In which case, tokens might actually be a better idea.

Also, let's not forget that for a lot of items, you *can* narrow down your chances. If you are looking for overland gear, you can focus on a specific type of content to get what you want.

It would be determined by your collections, so by account. If you need two? Why would you need two VO Restos? two Mothers Sorrow bows? There are clear filler items within many sets.

Who determines it? ZOS. Tanking sets are more versatile and probably wouldn't be effected by smart loot as much as clear DPS / Healing sets. Also not all sets need the exact treatment. Alkosh is technically a DPS set, so that would mean, when ZOS decides what would get dropped from the loot table, they'd probably pick Inferno, Resto and that's about it. For Mothers Sorrow though you could clear out all Stam weapons from the loot table once collected.

Clearly focused sets that are clearly Stam / Mag can have their opposite attribute weapons in a smart loot system, at ZOS's discretion, and just like many things if people find some unique build by dual wielding Vicious Ophidian Resto staves, then they can remove it from the smart loot system. This is just to remove obvious filler items from the loot table once collected, but players still have a method of accessing them again if they so choose. That, or you can keep collecting VO Resto staves, I don't mind. For every clear filler item no longer in the loot table, your chances of getting what you want goes up.

Not every set type has to fit some sort of cookie cut design, treated as a set by set basis, what are the items that are clear garbage, that everyone can agree on? Make it so once collected they don't drop again, if players want to play with garbage they can always reconstruct it.

Id just like it if the longer you go without seeing a specific drop, the odds of that drop being the one you get increases until you get it.

I had to run MA over 100 times for my second winterborn ring (pre set weapon drops or nMA weapons)

The idea of doing it for a specific weapon sounds insane to me

I agree, @Carbohydrate, the real boss in Maelstrom isn't the Argonian Behemoth ... it's the loot table.

    2 Winterborn Ice Staves ... that's 2 more than I've gotten in the last 70+ runs. ;)

On the plus side, you and I have a better appreciation of RNG than the forums threads about a missing Burning Spellweave Inferno Staff or Briarheart Dagger.

RNG is awful... yes I'm late, but with that said, you can get a BRIARHEART dagger from the quest:

While it's named, you can use 2 (altfarming)

i agree with the original poster on this.

I have now done 137 runs of a mix of vma while farming in particular for sticker items, and only have 79/166 collected for MA. I consider this pretty awful RNG. I keep getting the same duplicates over and over. I am mostly farming vma, and while its only 40ish minute runs, ill be honest normal is about 30 minutes still because of the RNG and RP blah blah blah. Only reason i still do VMA is because i STILL need 3 more perfected weapons.... after over 100 runs. I'll switch to normal to try and farm the side sets once I'm done. But the grind is awful. I'm still so angry about zos making us re-farm all our vma weapons over again in perfected form or i would be done.

Vat is much better, because the final chests in the 3 Arena's have a chance to drop weapons. THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS CHANGE IN VMA. It dosent even have to be a guarantee; just let arenas 6-9 give us a 50/50 chance like in vvh. Its 6 sets vs 3! For heaven's sake.

And please give us the double drop event soon <.< while im asking for gifts from santa claus.

I'm still yet to get the bow after god knows how many runs. I have almost everything else (only sword and shield set dagger + sword to get otherwise, and reckon ill get the complete set weapons before I ever get the bow. Hell, only have like 5 of each of those yet to get as well.

For a Briarheart dagger you can do a quest in Orsinium and get it as a reward, iirc.

I agree that a token system would be nice, even if it was steep, because at least you'd know there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Honestly, for me, I reckon just add a bias to weapons you don't already have, so they drop more frequently than duplicates.
