Newbie needs help with fill-in armor pieces with Necropotence

Hi,

Been playing my only character - a solo PvE Magsorc DPS for about 3 months running a Winged Twilight IV and a Volatile Familiar IV. I’m CP323. I’ve been reading a lot here that the Mother’s Sorrow was a good destruction staff to have, so I did the quest and got one (shock). Next I read that Necropotence armor might be good for a magsorc toon like mine, so I started gathering those items. I do the dolemens and can solo a couple of the overland bosses, but I fear that since im a solo-only player, I’ll never get the chest and legs.

Any ideas what I could replace my current chest and legs? It’s gotta be somewhere I can do solo.

BTW-I don’t have glyphs on anything.

Thanks for reading.

TL;DR

Just started using Daedric Prey IV instead of using my old standby Lightning Flood IV. I may end up putting Lightning Flood IV on my backup bar, because I miss it so much.

Skills:
Dark Magic, Daedric Summoning, Storm Calling, Two Handed, Destruction Staff, Light Armor, Heavy Armor, and Ziggurat Elf Skills all are at 50.

Magica - 40879
Health - 17060
Stamina - 14609
Spell damage - 1449
Spell critical - 29%

These are with consuming Crown Fortifying Meals.

Main hand - Argonian Muck Minder of Mother’s Sorrow (GREEN-shock damage)

Main Hand Backup - King’s Justice of the Wyrd Tree (BLUE-flame damage)

Armor:
Head - Stroda’s Orcish Coif of Necropotence (BLUE-8/5 items)

Chest - Senche-Pelt Blouse of the Withered Hand (BLUE)

Shoulders - Stibbons’s Fancy Paulettes of Necropotence (GREEN)

Waist - Sash of Necropotence (GREEN)

Hands - Gloves of Necropotence (GREEN)

Legs - Breeches of Winter’s Respite (PURPLE)

Feet - Shoes of Necropotence (BLUE)

Neck - Necklace of Necropotence (BLUE)

Ring1 - Ring of Necropotence (PURPLE)

Ring2 - Ring of Necropotence (BLUE)

You can probably find green or blue chest and legs for cheap at the guild stores, @OmenRIP.

    That's probably the fastest way.

If you absolutely what to find them yourself, the World Bosses are already a good start.

Delve bosses and doing a treasure chest circuit in Rivenspire are also decent choices.

If you haven't already started Enchanting on your crafting main, it's extremely helpful for later on ...

So, the way gear sets work is you get bonuses for each piece you add to the set after the first piece, up to 5 pieces. Pieces 2-4 are generally generic stat boosts with piece 5 usually being some sort of more unique buff or effect. You can look at these bonuses in the item description of each piece.

Since you already have 7 pieces of necropotance you already have the complete set, and in fact can even afford to replace 2 piecesof it without losing any bonuses from it.

As for your mother's sorrow staff, it's recommended for the set, not the staff itself, without the rest of the set it's a relatively generic staff. The reason the staff gets mentioned is because it's a good set to include the weapon for, not because the weapon itself is stronger than other weapons.

So I would recommend going to deshaan and farming 3 more pieces of mother's sorrow to complete the 5 pieces of that set (staffs count as 2 pieces) rather than focusing any further on necropotance.

It's worth mentioning too that both of these sets can be bought at traders if need be and aside from the mother's sorrow staff, are relatively inexpensive.

Also, as overland sets they should have come with glyphs already attached. That's what the line in the item description that says "enchantment" is indicating.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ve tried to purchase from the guild traders but they won’t sell to me since I’m not in their “guild”. After a couple times of this, I stopped going to them. By “guild” I took it to mean that I needed to belong to a specific player guild to shop there. Of course, since I play solo and only can play sporadically throughout the day, I’ve never joined any player guild.

    @Wandering_Immigrant

Again, thank you for replying so quickly! I read the Mother’s Sorrow staff all backwards. I thought it was THE staff for someone who plays like me to have. Boy was I wrong. I only have ~$227,000 in gold so I can’t afford to pay much. Again, as I said before, guild traders won’t sell to me since I’m not in their guilds ☹️ However I will go back to Deshaan and get the complementary pieces.

In addition I must have at least 20 ‘Truly Surperb’ glyphs, even some in the gold category. But every time I try to enchant an item, I’m always afraid that the glyph will override the natural attributes of the item I’m enchanting. If I have a frost staff and enchant it with a fire glyph, the dialogue box comparisons just show the replacement of the frost spec with the fire spec. Doesn’t seem to be worth it to me unless you keep several staves on you, each with different damage-type ‘specs’. Then again, I’m a noob with CP’s 😂

What a noob I am 😂. I didn’t realize that you had to put in certain search criteria for items to be listed. I just hit Search and nothing came up. Fortunately I had the gold to buy a gold MS destruction staff along with 3 pieces of MS armor. So I’m complete in the max for Necropotence and Mother’s Sorrow for now. As I get more gold, I’ll upgrade the pieces to a higher level.

Do you recommend enchanting these armor pieces of armor with glyphs such as magika or health?

    Thanks!

It depends on the rest of your build (including attributes and mundus) ... but for solo overland play you should be able to get by with magicka glyphs, @OmenRIP.

My magika seems to be ok, but my health is half of that. I use the twilight to heal me and my other pets and it seems to work most of the time. I actually completed one phase of a multiplayer dungeon this way, but it got too tough for the next 2 paths.

I also need to look at mundos stones and how they affect me. I don’t think I have any armor on now that increases mundus effects.

    Thanks for the reply.

A magicka pool that is roughly twice as large as your hp is about par for the course for a magicka build. Keep in mind that all of your magicka abilities also scale with your max magicka. Your damage and healing increases the more of it you have. So you are missing out on a lot of effective character power by not having all your gear glyphed out with magicka glyphs. Even if you feel like you have enough of a resource pool to keep casting as much as you need, you will be stronger with the glyphs.

If you're using Necropotence/Mother's Sorrow, they come with Magicka/Arcane enchantments to begin with.

If you use a gold glyph on a purple item it gives you a drop more, but straight upgrading the gear itself should end up with the same numbers once you get to gold, no extra glyphs needed.

Thanks for taking the time to explain glyphs to me.

So if I understand correctly, if I put a gold glyph on a purple item, once I upgrade that item to gold, there would be no difference to having the glyph or not. I have at least 20 glyphs, mostly frost, fire, health, mágicka, and stamina. Several are gold. But since I’m planning to slowly upgrade my Necropotence and Mother’s Sorrow gear (except for the gold destruction staff), I should just hold on to them and not use them?

Wow, I did not know that! I was thinking that I should use glyphs to add health, not magicka. That’s why I’m a CP337 noob 😄

Specifically for dropped or rewarded items that come with their own enchantment, that's correct (unless something's changed, and I hope someone will please correct me :) ).

If you find a Green robe from a monster that comes with a +Magicka enchantment, and you upgrade that robe to Gold quality, the total amount of +Magicka from the original enchantment won't be any less than if you manually put a separate gold +Magicka glyph on it.

Huge Caveat: You won't always want to keep the enchantment an item dropped with. Maybe you do want more health because you're dying too much. If you overwite the original +Magicka with a separate +Health glyph, there's no more free scaling. If you change your mind and want to go back to +Magicka you'll have to provide your own glyph.

Depends on your money. If you can easily gold your items and you like the enchantments they dropped with, go ahead and do that.

If you don't have enough materials or funds to go straight to gold quality, maybe only purple, you'll still get immediate returns by applying gold glyphs to the purple gear. Gold glyphs are relatively cheap vs. golding the item itself (especially for Jewelry).

If you have an item you've already put an enchantment on, you have no choice but to improve the enchantment quality separately from the item quality.

When you go to enchant an item with a glyph, you can hover over the left side and the right side "before and after" to see if there's actually any gain to be had by applying the selected glyph.
