Shield armor barely higher than off hand defending???

I never quite understood this. The shield should have the highest armor in the game even WITHOUT CP. It should have more armor than a chest piece. I don't know about you but even not trying to block, the chances are the shield would get hit a lot more. Most people don't tend to puff out their chest and say "come on bro try to stab me, I dare you!".

Without CP running sword and shield especially in PVP is an utter handicap. You lose a lot to try to use a certain playstyle. I understand you shouldn't be able to do a lot of damage with S&S but your shield should give more than a measly 100-300 armor over a defending dual wield, or way less vs a 2-hander.

I also understand it is very useful for blocking, but that isn't the issue here.

Aren't Armor and Physical resist technically different stats? They both mitigate damage but are calculated differently right?

It is the 1H and Shield passives that give you survivability, not the shield itself. 36% reduced cost of blocking, 20% extra damage blocked, 14% extra ranged/projectile damage blocked. And simply having one of the 1H&S skills on your bar passively blocks another 10% damage. Basically, the game is designed where you need to actively use the shield and block to gain the damage resistance. You cannot just have a shield equipped. While your baseline stats will not be much different from a defending trait dual wield, you will block much more damage with a shield.

Yes I understand the merits of blocking passives from 1h/s, this is not the point of the discussion.

The player doesn't need to do anything special to gain the armor granted from a defending offhand dual-wield, or while using a shield.

REGARDLESS of passives, both of the aforementioned items grant armor at all times, yet a shield -- which is exclusively a defensive tool -- is only slightly higher in armor. If you don't see the inherent design flaw with this , thenI suppose I am not explaining myself clearly enough.

Sadly this isn't Mordhau where weapons have hitboxes, placing a shield on your back is a viable tactic, and armor actually works.

The shield still offers protection so it's not like it does nothing.

It's a roleplay flaw, the game mechanics are fine

It pisses me off too! I'm waiting for a one-handed staff to be added in the game so that mages can wear a shield!
