Is there a definitive answer to where this drops, does anyone know? I've looked at loads of sites and every single one says something different.

I'm at the stage where all I know for sure is it's not dropping for me!

Can farm Bloodknights near the Castle in Blackreach, or from mobs in Kyne's Aegis trial, or it drops from mobs in Castle Thorn (I've gotten it from all 3)

Can confirm, I've gotten one from those bloodknights, and another one from Castle Thorn dungeon, while a guildie of mine got a drop in nKA when we ran it together.

Thanks! Haven't been doing trials and dungeons recently but spent literally days killing Bloodknights with no success. I've read everything from anything in Western Skyrim/Blackreach down to only bear monsters in BR so just wondered how wide I could throw my net

I farmed the three Bloodknights at the Greymoor Keep entrance, but it took a while. Expect to be doing it for an hour, if not more.
Heard it drops frequently in Kyne's Aegis, but it didn't for me, so can't confirm.

I got that lead from a mob at Castle Thorn dungeon.

Two of my guildies got the lead from running Stone Garden/Castle Thorn this weekend (we ran both dungeons, so I don't remember exactly where each of them got it)

I've gotten the font lead from the bloodknights in Castle Greymoor (hint, there are more than just those 4 at the entrance), and once from a vampiric bear. Vampiric sabre cats are supposed to drop it as well.

Basically, vampiric creatures, not humanoids ( nor death hounds for some odd reason).

I tried getting the lead from Bloodknights at Greymoor Keep to no avail, then I killed a death hound near the site of the harrowstorm on my way to Midnight Barrow and got one.

I don't recommend fighting Vampiric Bears like the site I read suggested. That was terrible because there just isn't enough spawns.

Killing the Vampires guarding the entrance to Greymoor Keep worked for me. Took awhile.

I got the lead from Blade of Woeing the vampire in the Fighter's Guild in Solitude, after picking her pockets clean.

There are bloodknights lef, right and center of the v ampire castle. I've gotten 3 off of them.

Thanks everyone, looks like it's back to bloodknights - or accepting I'm never gonna get this one!

I know I got it from an overland mob in Western Skyrim. I think twice. I know that on the EU server, the character has never even been in Blackreach.

I went to the bloodknights at the bridge leading into greymoor keep. I found another spot with 3 bloodknights, but they never dropped a thing. Like no gold, gear, nothing, and i farmed them for hours.

But the 2 bloodknights on the bridge leading into the keep respawn fast and i got it form there in about an hour.
