Gold farming for someone who hates crafting?

    What **DO** you enjoy doing?

    That's the first question.

I mostly like questing, though I am enjoying antiquities and I do have the thieves guild line (like some people said), so I think those could be some good options. Thanks everyone!

Doing Writs everyday is still the best and easiest way to make gold.

I make my gold from events

when events happen that you can find motifs, do them with all your characters, then sell the motifs.

selling motifs you find is good money. Last anniversary event I made 800+k just selling the motifs.

That’s a lot! But do people buy them just from zone chat? I thought they usually wouldn’t buy unless you use a guild trader.

Join the Thieves Guild then loot the two ships docked at the west end of Daggerfall. The Outlaw refuge is right there to quickly fence your loot.

I assume they would, otherwise people wouldn't be spamming zone chat all the time.

Also, another place where I found a reasonable amount of gold dropping was in public dungeons that have human mobs, like Rulyanil's Fall or the Vile Manse.

And farming treasure chests is also a steady source of gold, even if you just vendor everything.

Farming dungeons yeald me 2 mil this month. I play for a few hours. Best is to farm dungeon motifs, some goes for high prices. Also picking up all the trash loot makes some decent coin. Decontrusting the purple stuff and selling mats after.

This. Hardmodes of DLC dungeons drop a guaranteed motif page. If you do the latest ones and the hardest ones, armor pieces can go for 40k-200k depending on a piece.
This, HM DLC farm after motif drop will be very lucrative.
It has an pretty high skill level however.

Note that everybody from trial guilds to social ones often have traders in good cities as an bonus if they have the gold and someone to juggle it.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

There's not as much gold in crafting,as much as people just want/like the motifs for outfits. So many people don't own DLCs/chapters,so selling non-basegame items is a decent gold maker.Join a guild,There's a finder(press G,use dropdown, and guild finder),so just look for a guild with low/no requirements, and start selling. There's always someone n looking for things,so selling in chat, you might log out the second someone wants the item.Trade guilds are great, cause the items are always there, and most use the TTC site to search for deals, and your's could be the one.

Lol it’s just so tedious though!

All farming is tedious if I am being candid. When people talk about crafting, the real question is how does it generate gold. There are very few crafters these days that make a bunch of gold actually crafting gear for others. Years ago, there was decent money it, but now it is not hard to find a crafter willing to do it for next to nothing if you provide the mats.

People make money from crafting by doing crafting writs. The reason that everyone suggests it is that it is arguably the most efficient way to make gold. Crafting writs on a character take 3-5 mnutes (less on PC with addons), and you will get 4500 or so gold, and anywhere from 0-5 gold mats. There simply isnt a better way to generate gold from an efficiency standpoint unless you get unusually lucky on drops or you have a REALLY good eye for flipping goods in a trader (requires a guild trader). Nice thing about writs are that gold mats are the one thing that doesnt really require a trader to sell. Priced fairly, they sell in zone chat very fast. You also get a host of other stuff

Almost everyone that I know that is worth 8-9 figures in ESO has done/still does crafting writs very consistently. I stopped. I did them for years, but I have so much gold and my crafting bag is so full that i could play this game for years and never need to farm anything but specific gear.

    ^ This.

OP, If you want to know how much gold can be made doing writs... open the spreadsheet in my signature :)

    @tmbrinks

That spread sheet is impressive. Confirmed a lot of my suspicions on drop rates, but nice to see that data. Still dont think I have ever seen a Chromium Plating drop from a writ, but also possible I missed it.

If asked, I generally say that your chances of refining a gold mat are about 1/20, and getting one from a writ are about 1/3. Seems like your numbers are pretty close to that.

@Nestor by undead farm do you mean zombies? I think I know a good place for that if so.

Yep, Zombies, Bloodspawn, whatever those dead bosmer are called in Greenshade. Basically, anything that drops Worms and Crawlers when you kill them.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Okay cool. And then are those good to sell to other players or just vendors? Sorry, I have no idea what anything in this game is worth.

Most of the responses in this thread assume you have a Guild Store, with a Kiosk, to offload your loot for Gold.

Since you said you are not in a Trade Guild, here is your Road Map:

    1. Find an Undead Farm Location, they are squishy and respawn quickly. Run your patterns looting the corpses until your full, vendor the loot you get. Rinse Repeat.

Most original zones have an Undead spawn area, some are denser than others. Once you figure out how to pull in 10 to 20 mobs at a time and AoE them down, you can get pretty efficient at this.

    2. Steal and Fence. There are quite a few areas in the game where you can farm lots of owned containers, and a few areas where you can pick NPC's pockets with low risk.
    3. Do Quests.

The above is in descending order of efficiency with regards to gold per hour, and based on having no trade guild.

This for no trade guild and not wanting to deal with crafting.

Writs on multiple characters is still the most gain with the least effort but obviously requires crafting and also needs a trade guild for selling gold upgrade matts. Of course, you are trying to avoid both.

Why not just join a capital trading guild.? You need one to make the big bucks by selling things you farm. Any other way is too tedious and time consuming. Selling carries is profitable too indeed if your good

Join a trading guild. Why wouldn't you?

I don't enjoy grinding, so I just play as I like and then sell the wares I get along the way. I might not be the richest person in the game but have never wanted for gold.

Frankly just because I don’t want to deal with one. A lot of them have pretty high dues, and I just can’t commit to that. But I guess I might consider it if I found one with little or no dues.

Well, it is mostly vendor trash. However, it might be better to deconstruct most of it on your characters to level crafting. Writs are the best way to make money, but since you hate crafting, I did not mention it.

Then again, you don't need leveled crafting to make decent money from writs, just leveled characters. Of course, you get more Gold Temper Drops from higher tier writs, but, unless you sell those in a guild store, your just saving money on improving gear. Which is kind of like making gold, in a way.

Vendor trash is perfect actually! Sounds easy enough. And about writs, I have tried to do them on occasion. But I just get so sick of them that there’s just no way I can actually get enough done to be worth it.
But thank you (and everyone) very much for the ideas!

The guild I've been a member of for the longest have a 7k sals req or 1k donation. They're usually in a capital city so getting that target is extremely easy. There are a bunch of those guilds out there where you can easily meet the target sales, not having to bother with donations and focus on other things while making some gold.

Sure, being in Craglorn is nice since stuff do sell quicker there (my other trade guild is there, with a 150k sales req), but you don't need to be there unless you're really into trading. Might take some time finding a good guild, but once you've found one it's smooth sailing.
