Fine Tune my Stamblade

Sunderling
Hello. I will preface this by saying I love both PvE and PvP and intend to do both. I was going to put all three characters into this post but I decided to post them individually. I am looking for criticism on my current builds. I have been playing for a couple months now. I am CP 302. I have:

-Stam DK (Lvl 50) Intended to Tank in PvE only.
-Stamblade (Lvl 50) Intended for DPS/OWPvP (Cyro) and BG’s. This is the tough one for me.
-Magsorc (Lvl 49, very excited for tonight to hit 50 and put my set on) I am enjoying this the most for DPS/BG’s.

I will start with what concerns me the most, my NB.

Stamblade:
PvE:
Gear:
In Dungeons, Questing and PvE in general I am using Hundings, Briar and Selene’s. DW/Bow Briar + Accs (all with blood lust, weapons are infused and nirn). All medium except chest which is heavy, mix of well-fitted, Robust… all gear is gold. I find my DMG is alright, but it could be better… obviously I am only CP 300.

Skills:
-Surprise Attack, Killer’s Strike, Blood Craze, Vigor, Whirling Blades and Incapacitating Strike
-Endless Hail, Merciless Resolve, Funnel Health, Vigor, Guise, and WW
-WW line is fairly built so far. Still more to go on it but my damage is becoming almost as reliable as my regular skill lines. WW isn’t really my focus but it’s cool to pop it lol.
Note: I am unsure on Funnel Health, Vigor and Guise. I am only using Funnel Health to level my skill tree so I can get leeching for PvP. Guise is just… there. Vigor I like for the heal in an emergency.

I have my rotation down pretty good but I feel I could be doing a lot more dmg. I know I should look at trap… any other advice or changes you would make in terms of skills? I want to remain DW and Bow. I could drop guise for trap? I can’t see myself really needing guise in pve.

PvP:

Gear:
In BG’s, which is basically all I do for PvP, I use Eternal Hunt, NMA (2h greatsword and accs) and Selene’s. The stam/roll bonus from EH is awesome and NMA makes up for the loss of Hunding’s. Selene’s is there as usual. I’m not sure about what to do with my accs, if I should go Blood Lust or stay Robust for the most part. Again, well-fitted armour and impen. I think I’m all Medium save a heavy chest again, wondering if I should go heavy… I get 3 or 4 shot pretty easy but for what it’s worth I can 3 – 4 shot people too. I don’t know if the DMG in this game is just insane or if it’s my gear or if I need to select better defensive skills/roll more.

Skills:
Surprise Attack, Executioner, Ambush, Vigor, Guise, Incapacitating Strike
Scatter Shot, Relentless Focus, Funnel Health, Vigor, Guise, Soul Shred

I find I do 40% – 50% of my groups damage in most vet dungeons… but I am power-hungry and I want to do a butt load of dmg. I want to be ready for end-game vet dungeons and trials.

So, I know I have problems here. I know I should drop Funnel, again I’m just leveling that for leeching. I probably don’t need Guise on both bars but I really, really like dipping in and out of combat, I find I am not bad at conserving the resources I need to be able to do this but I am also finding that it doesn’t always work, especially with everything being so AoE heavy. I have Vigor on both bars often… but I find I suck at swapping quickly enough to heal and to get shields up when I need to because of all the 3 shot action going on… I find myself being overly defensive but I also chose to go for a glass cannon like approach… maybe a bad idea. I have seen the guide that suggests building entirely into Surprise Attack by dropping executioner and adding Rally, basically full pumping all strength and offense into Surprise Attack… seems like a simple approach that might work and I can be free to spam, not worrying about executioner (or killers strike) at all!

I have been thinking of swapping from stamblade to magblade, but I would have to farm an entirely new set…

That about wraps up my NB. My CP is built following a few guides and some personal tweaks.. I know my skills are a little sloppy, I weave my LA’s pretty consistently (I got a few add-ons this week to track LA’s/DPS).

    Post was a little messy.

"I find I do 40% – 50% of my groups damage in most vet dungeons… but I am power-hungry and I want to do a butt load of dmg. I want to be ready for end-game vet dungeons and trials." Should have been pasted below the pve section not in the pvp section, lol.

And the pve set (hunding) is actually divine... not robust...

If you're going with Eternal Hunt. Maybe combine with Morihaus? 2H d-swing the CC'd while their knocked down and immobilized.

That could be an extremely annoying combo! My only concern is I would have to drop NMA/DMG orientated set.... but with this I would also gain some defensive qualities and if I -did- drop executioner I could still use Rally for the DMG boost into either Dizzy or Surprise Attack stun/dmg spam...

Swift, Infused or Robust. I wouldn't make it a priority unless you have transmute crystals to burn.
wondering if I should go heavy
On stamblade: Noooooo. I guess it's technically possible to make a heavy brawler type stamblade, but the class has crit damage bonuses. You want medium for the higher crit and weapon damage. In heavy you'll be forever chasing damage, complicating your attack rotation and increasing time to kill. Medium also keeps you more mobile with better sprint speed and dodge roll sustain.
I get 3 or 4 shot pretty easy but for what it’s worth I can 3 – 4 shot people too. I don’t know if the DMG in this game is just insane or if it’s my gear
    This is normal.
or if I need to select better defensive skills/roll more.
Basically, yes, although you shouldn't fall into the trap of constantly rolling either. It's expensive and will lead you down a path where you build for lots of sustain, lowering your damage.

Every class needs to "line-of-sight", e.g. take advantages of obstacles to hide behind, weaving in and out, trying to get an advantageous position on your opponent. Even though nightblades can cloak and use Shadow Image, it's a basic technique you have to learn. Defending effciently comes with experience. If I were to sum it up for a nightblade I would say hit people hard, but if you're not doing noticeable damage, get out of there well before the tables turn.
    Skills:
Surprise Attack, Executioner, Ambush, Vigor, Guise, Incapacitating Strike

Funnel Health is a no. Magicka skills scale with spell damage and magicka. It's no good to you whatsoever. If you want to slot a Siphoning skill for the extra magicka, slot Leeching Strikes.

You need Rally or Forward Momentum for the Major Brutality so you can be flexible with potions. You probably want tri-stat pots for both stamina and magicka sustain (and health).

I play magblade in PvP. If you want something that performs well there, I recommend stamblade over magblade ... by about a factor of 10.
PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

I don't play stamblade, but I put together a "typical" stamblade PvP build, which I may run in future. For what it's worth:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoBuildData?id=278498
PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

All good, thank you everyone. I did a bit of work on her the other night and revamped my skill line. My traits on my accs are all good then. I kept my pve set as mostly blood thirsty.

For my skills, I swapped some things but mostly my pve lines right now. Haven't mucked about with my pvp yet but I probably will tonight, was too focused on getting my magsorc to 50 lol.

    Frontbar I went:

    Surprise Attack
    Grim/Relentless
    Rending
    Cloak of Blades
    Whirling
    Ult - Incapacitating Strike/Death Stroke

    Backbar I went:

    Endless Hail
Lethal (until I get poison arrow)
Funnel (again, just to level the tree line so I can actually get and use leeching!)
    Vigor
    Evasion/Shuffle (still leveling)
Ult - Don't have DB yet so still running WW just to have.

So funnel will absolutely be replaced by leeching for both circumstances I believe. Not sure if I will use it for pvp or seek out another dot.

You could just slot soul shred to level your siphoning line. It's a really good ultimate, you'll want to level it at some point if you haven't already anyway. It never leaves my kit in PvP.

This is a super idea and I feel sort of dumb for not doing this before. I was just so taken with WW during the more RP approach I started out with but being I am ready to start trying to min/max this makes way more sense.
