Eviscerate isn't melee

So the vampire's primary spammable isn't a true melee attack. I ran some tests to see if the Eviscerate ability and it's morphs would proc the two-handed axe passive bleed. Long story short, it can not. After looking into it more, for the purposes of melee, only light, medium, and heavy attacks from S&B, DW, and 2H weapons and abilities from the listed weapon skill lines seem to be considered melee. This is a fascinating, as well as annoying, discovery to make!

Its a magicka ability that deals magic damage and conforms to melee rules. It isn't reflected back like a projectile would be allowing you to hit people with it while under effects like that shield the NPCs at resources in Cyrodiil throw on you. I'm more curious as to why you're running a 2-handed Axe with Eviscerate to be honest. I think its not procing the bleed because its not a physical damage ability.

    Two reasons:
    1. Wanted to see if it would work.
    2. Boredom.

Now the problem with your second argument is the passive which I was testing, which has the following wording:
Axes grant your melee attacks 8%/16% chance to apply a bleed dealing 1056 Physical Damage over 6 seconds.

This does not specify that the melee attack as to be physical damage ability, just that it is a melee attack. So common sense would dectate that anything in close hand-to-hand range is melee right? Well, that's the idea I had until I did the test. Turns out, most likely no. Looking more into this to clear my confustion, I formed the hypothesis that they outright lable certain skills as ranged, melee, or magic depending on various factors. Eviscerate despite following the melee rules which make common sense, is most likely labeled as a magic ability in the game. This means, that the ability will never proc the passive despite it appearing to be a melee attack to an average player. So no, Eviscerate is not a melee attack apperently.

The Axe Bleed effect only is able to be proc'd on Light Attacks made with the weapon and Weapon Abilities (anything in the 2H skill tree).

    That's it.

So Eviscerate does not proc it because it is neither of those things. Same thing for like DK's Molten Whip or even Stamina melee class abilities like Concealed Weapon (or whatever the Stamina morph is called).

    Hope this answers your questions.

Wasn't a question, but thank you all the same. Mostly just trying to figure out why they worded it the way they did, and why "melee" only applies to weapon stuff.
