Microsoft will kill ESO just like they killed Halo

How is Bethesda any better than other publishers now? It seems to me they have been trying to be more like EA.

You do realize that microsoft owned halo since the start? Or is this an inconvenient truth?

I played Halo before Bungie sold it to Microsoft and in my opinion, the game play suffered.

Curious to know how you did that? Microsoft bought Bungie in 2000 and Halo was released over a year later in 2001.

Dont let facts get in the way of their story. :D
The first Halo game was announced in 1999 as a real time strategy game for the Macintosh. It got reworked after Microsoft bought bungie and they got access to the Xbox developer kit.

It is generally understood that the replay value took a precipitous dive at around the time bungie split off from Microsoft and 343 was created to manage the Halo franchise that bungie was leaving behind.

Just look at the general fan opinion of Reach, Halo 4, Halo 5. The team in charge of managing Halo in the absence of bungie are generally thought by many to have taken the wonderful Halo 1 / 2 / 3 and mangled them in a wood chipper for Halo 4 / 5.

Sure, graphics get better. But great graphics are less important than enjoyment - just look at Minecraft for that issue. Same with server support, and frames per second, and bug fixes.

It’s a subjective thing how much people enjoy playing a game. Different people have different benchmarks. Many people simply did not enjoy watching cortana go crazy and then die in halo 4. Many people simply did not enjoy watching the hero Master Chief get roasted as a traitor. I’m one of those people - I played halo 4 two or three times, and halo 5 just once.

I feel that Microsoft killed the soul of halo when bungie wasn’t there to watch over the property, and I think that is the source of many people’s concern over just what will Microsoft do to the well-beloved Elder Scrolls property...

If you need a different example to understand the concern, just look at the Spider-Man and Fantastic Four properties. The rights are owned by Sony, and fans widely dislike the movies that Sony has been putting out with them while greatly enjoying what is created when Marvel is writing for those characters.

Other examples would be the bajillion various tv shows that suffered when the executives inserted their noses into a show’s development. Just google ‘tv show executive interference’ and the results speak for themselves.

I hope Bethesda holds on to Elder Scrolls 6 development with both hands and a death grip. Having it shuffled into some sort of internal division, where outsiders get to stick their noses into the development process, would endanger the game’s replay value. ES has Skyrim, one of the most replayed games ever. It is reasonable to worry that Microsoft could take elder scrolls from replay value like Skyrim to replay value like halo 5.

It's funny seeing people talk about their worry for TES as a series as if Bethesda didn't spend almost a decade re-relasing the same ES game.

Seriously as long as Microsoft can refrain from just feeding us the same game for 9 years I'm pretty sure we'll be fine. How hard is it to make a ES story anyhow? "You are X, Chosen of the Seven Seas, Lord Herald of Sky Mountains, Akatoshes Favorite Binky and you must save the world from The Daedric Prince of Slightly Hostile Muffins." I mean lets be honest most of the charm in ES games is the actual world building/dialogue options and not really the main story.

I really love what Bethesda have done and I think keeping true to the Elder Scrolls world is important but I do agree adding to the lore and expanding the world and story might give it some freshness so long as it is in keeping with the rest of the Elder Scrolls world. Revisiting the daedric princes and areas of the game we've been too is fun and I love it but I'd also like to see new and completely unthought of ideas.
