I can't remember exactly, but you either right click the chat window or there is a "tool" icon on the chat window. From there you can turn on/off the various channels. You can even have multiple tabs in your chat window, so you can have one tab for guild and another for zone.
I play for almost four years now, but besides some exceptions, I do not find ESO community toxic at all, most of the time it's quite fun to read the zone chat
Yes there is a possibility to disable zone chat in the social settings and also if you open a new chat tab you can fine-tune what you want to see.
Have fun!

Thanks

They just tend to be popular zones where trolls can get attention, that already have a conversation going (which can take a wrong turn quickly). They're also filled with newer players who aren't as attached to ESO's community, so some of them don't feel as bad causing trouble, like littering in someone else's neighborhood. Of course, many long-time ESO players get toxic in these zones, as well, especially if they're bored waiting for stuff in Craglorn or salty about PvP in Cyro
Do not argue with zone chat trolls. That's what they want. Change the conversation. Ask the zone for pricechecks you don't need, ask what class is best for PvE DPS, make an Elsweyr joke, or ask a lore question, or ask how to make money in ESO (even if you already know). This is the best way to ruin a troll's fun, in my experience. Get more people talking about something else
It's also easy to report people for hate speech when they choose to do that.
There have always been trolls online. But, in recent years, specific political groups in the US have targeted gaming communities with their rhetoric—for example, that anyone who is offended by anything is inferior. It's had a big influence

Anyone can say four letter curse words that only accentuate an idea, but add no complexity to the idea, opinion, or topic. That's easy.
Instead, they get a well thought out argument, with key points that may force them to rethink their opinions in the end. Hence, seeing us as a challenge.

Makes sense, limited resources and lots of players farming them.VaranisArano wrote: »Here I thought it was Stonefalls and Glenumbra that were the hives of scum and villainy. Craglorn has always seemed to have more of the drive-by attention seekers to me.
Though I have rarely seen a zone chat as toxic as Clockwork City during its event. With all those limited-resource dailies for Slag Town down in the tunnels, people were PO'd.

You really think political groups target gamers? That seems like a stretch. Of course there a political trolls in zone chat, because that is one of the subjects most likely to get people fired up...its just trolling though, not influence peddling as such. I guess you could say internet trolls like to target gaming communities simply because they know some gamers have a very thin skin. Trolls simply like to troll, and the easy topics for trolling are politics and religion, just don't fall for emotional manipulation by bothering to respond.
