Why is it mostly craglorn, auridon and riften that attracts toxic people? .-. Some people honestly need a chill pill

How do people find toxic players in zone? Ignore zone chat and if random players are whispering you for no reason do not pay attention, and certainly do not reply.

Is there a way I can disable zone but just keep guild chat available? (New here sorry)

I can't remember exactly, but you either right click the chat window or there is a "tool" icon on the chat window. From there you can turn on/off the various channels. You can even have multiple tabs in your chat window, so you can have one tab for guild and another for zone.

I play for almost four years now, but besides some exceptions, I do not find ESO community toxic at all, most of the time it's quite fun to read the zone chat ;)

Yes there is a possibility to disable zone chat in the social settings and also if you open a new chat tab you can fine-tune what you want to see.

    Have fun! B)

How to make another chat tab showing just what you want to see.
1: Click the + on the top of the chat box
2: Click the ones you want to add a tick or click the ones with a tick in the box you don't want to remove them and name the tab Guild.
3: Next to the chat box you type in where it says Say: you can click there to select Guild or group etc.

I'm in Auridon right now doing Cadwell's Gold, and haven't noticed anything unusual compared to any other normal zone (?)

Riften is mostly people discussing wheter werewolf/vampire bites should be free or not in my experience, and Craglorn is just elitist paradise.

Here I thought it was Stonefalls and Glenumbra that were the hives of scum and villainy. Craglorn has always seemed to have more of the drive-by attention seekers to me.

Though I have rarely seen a zone chat as toxic as Clockwork City during its event. With all those limited-resource dailies for Slag Town down in the tunnels, people were PO'd.

Glenumbra, Auridon, and especially Stonefalls, as well as whichever DLC/Chapter zone is the newest, tend to attract zone chat trolls who incite people into dumb political or social arguments. They just tend to be popular zones where trolls can get attention, that already have a conversation going (which can take a wrong turn quickly). They're also filled with newer players who aren't as attached to ESO's community, so some of them don't feel as bad causing trouble, like littering in someone else's neighborhood. Of course, many long-time ESO players get toxic in these zones, as well, especially if they're bored waiting for stuff in Craglorn or salty about PvP in Cyro

Do not argue with zone chat trolls. That's what they want. Change the conversation. Ask the zone for pricechecks you don't need, ask what class is best for PvE DPS, make an Elsweyr joke, or ask a lore question, or ask how to make money in ESO (even if you already know). This is the best way to ruin a troll's fun, in my experience. Get more people talking about something else

It's also easy to report people for hate speech when they choose to do that.

There have always been trolls online. But, in recent years, specific political groups in the US have targeted gaming communities with their rhetoric—for example, that anyone who is offended by anything is inferior. It's had a big influence

I hope their answer worked for you as I am not interested in starting up my box ESO account and deal with all the updates, lol.

It is great having zone disabled. A guildmate will occasionally comment on what someone said in zone. That usually afirms disabling zone chat is a fabulous way to go.

You really think political groups target gamers? That seems like a stretch. Of course there a political trolls in zone chat, because that is one of the subjects most likely to get people fired up...its just trolling though, not influence peddling as such. I guess you could say internet trolls like to target gaming communities simply because they know some gamers have a very thin skin. Trolls simply like to troll, and the easy topics for trolling are politics and religion, just don't fall for emotional manipulation by bothering to respond.

I believe Gamers get targeted because we are highly intellectual, and the trolls are just looking for a challenge to try and beat gamers in verbal debate.
Anyone can say four letter curse words that only accentuate an idea, but add no complexity to the idea, opinion, or topic. That's easy.

Instead, they get a well thought out argument, with key points that may force them to rethink their opinions in the end. Hence, seeing us as a challenge.

Uhm, no. Just sit back and watch zone chat devolve into 'no you' within minutes of someone saying anything mildly trollish. Rarely have I ever seen well thought out arguments or intelligent debate... And should anyone attempt that, any troll will swiftly dismantle it with a few idiot terms. As other posters have said, every recourse is food for the troll, the more effort and thought you put into your response, the more they love it, like a delicacy; starvation is the only way to beat them.

    LOL

I've only ever seen politics infect pc-na zone chat and if that's the highly intellectual level of political rhetoric deployed then I can only say I am monumentally underwhelmed. Also, in fairness, there's usually an overwhelming rejection of that vocal minority's trite attempt to subvert players' game time. I suspect that individuals that engage in that kind of chat will talk about eso while sharing a beer - all by themselves in a corner of a bar because crashing bores are that popular.

Although it is rather flattering to think of myself as highly intellectual while gaming. :D

I can't address your very reasonable doubt about this without potentially causing a political discussion and a closed thread, which is why I wasn't specific. If you google "new york magazine gold farming" there's a short, relevant article that we should definitely not discuss in this thread.

It's probably more accurate to say that the demographic that has been targeted by these political groups happens to also widely overlap with the gaming community. I'm not gonna say more about it in this thread, but I wanted to provide some context for people who had the same questions as OP

ESO is one of the nicest communities out there. Every time I ask for help, someone is there to aid me. Most times for free, even when I ask for help in crafting.

OP, all multiplayer online games attract toxic people. Even Pokemon Go for example. It's nothing to do with the game, but the people themselves. Best thing you can do for yourself is to mute and block the toxic ones and do your own thing.
Far too many characters to list any more.
