Chicken Eggs

So there is a lot of provisioning and alchemy ingredients in this game.

But one thing that has really puzzled me over the years is the fact that there is no chicken eggs in this game.

Why is this the case? Is there some strange lore that I'm missing? How have the chickens not become extinct?

Are the farmers secretly hiding them from all the adventures.

Is Sheogorath responsible for the disappearance of all chicken eggs?

I need answers lol

    Immersion destroyed lol.

Never thought of that but it is funny to point out. Chicken eggs are such a fundamental part of cuisine that one would assume it should exist in the world of ES yet we never see any. Maybe they are all using Spider Eggs as a substitute, lol. ES V Skyrim did have chicken eggs though.

It is not true that there are no chicken eggs in the game

My DK's pet hen (Clucky) lays eggs all the time. It gets rather embarrassing sometimes because she drops them everywhere and anywhere - she does not seem to care at all.

No sooner than they are laid, they seem to vanish as if into thin air. I think that they are a much prized food and are snapped up by cooks for baking. There are plenty of recipes that appear to require eggs - even the infamous Sweetroll.

The Nords certainly like their eggs, as attested by the new, Solitude breakfast dishes.

Get a chicken and your problem will be solved o:)

In Skyrim I made an farming mod who let you create places to plant seed with an hoe.
Well as I found bird nests was plants I made planting an chicken egg spawned a nest who could be harvested like other plants. However if eggs was not harvested in an week they would hatch into chickens :)

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Imvho this is the best and most important topic to be discussed on the forum, for a very long time.

The fact that some people are saying that their chickens ARE laying eggs, but are disappearing into thin air, only leads me to believe that Tamriel chickens are either Daedra or yet another annoyance of Sheogorath. It also, and perhaps more importantly, brings into focus the lack of philosophical rigour by the Mage's or indeed, the Psijiic Guilds, in that they have no interest in the question, 'Which came first, the chicken or the egg?' presumably because there are no eggs to be pondered upon.

    I'm worried.

Your Nord might have 'a' breakfast egg, but it might not be a 'chicken' egg. There are no eggs apparently. How would you tell. It's probably a Daedra egg. mmm yum

I believe I already have 3 chickens, however like you say as soon as they lay an egg they just disappear.

I guess I would just like to be able to collect said eggs and use them to make new foods that give different stats.

I'm not sure what these stats would be, I guess that would be up to the divines.

Who knows they may one day be a rare golden ingredient like perfect roe. (pristine egg)

I think that would be cool. 🙂

Can confirm that my chickens lay evaporating eggs. They vanish with an audible "pop" sound. Meanwhile I can very easily buy kwama eggs and even *harpy* eggs, and something that looks suspiciously like an Argonian egg but that I have been assured is fake. Could it be that in Tamriel we should not be *expecting* chicken eggs? I mean...suppose this is normal for Tamriel chickens and we are the weirdos for trying to impose our Terran expectations on that world? Perhaps Tamriel chicks coalesce out of chicken gas from evaporating eggs when the air is especially humid.

Okay, so if the chicken eggs disappear just after they are laid, then how to chickens reproduce? Theory: chickens do not in fact reproduce and there is a finite number of chickens in the world that will never be replaced. And THAT is the reason people get so mad when you kill a chicken.

The Dunmer practice of farming Kwama eggs simply destroyed the market for chicken eggs - no-one who has fed an entire clan on just one egg will bother with collecting those midget feathered dino eggs anymore.

The us department of agriculture has determined that the eating of eggs is not healthy due to the level of cholesterol they contain. Therefore marketing is forbidden from saying eggs are healthy or nutritious.

Apparently people on nirn already have a clue and have banned chicken eggs. Hence their fascination for kwama.

I think you are missing the point, there is no chicken egg that you can collect as an ingredient.

You have 3 chickens [Hens] @NaomiHutt and have seen that they do lay eggs and we can see small, fluffy, yellow chickens running around in fields. To me, that is strong circumstantial evidence to suggest that there are plenty of eggs that do hatch into chickens and chicken eggs do not simply vanish into thin air. My Hypothesis is that the eggs are stolen and they do not just 'evaporate'. That is why I said in my earlier post (#5):
No sooner than they are laid, they seem to vanish as if into thin air. I think that they are a much prized food and are snapped up by cooks for baking.
I agree with you in that there does not seem to be a Provisioning Recipe that specifically lists chicken eggs as an ingredient. My take on that has always been, only the ingredients to make the dish distinctive from another, are listed. We also see that only generic groups of some ingredients are listed, eg,
    1. Chicken Breast - Poultry, not chicken
    2. Stuffed Capon - Poultry, not chicken
    3. Grape-Glazed Bantam Guar - Poultry, not Guar
    4. Peacock Pie - Poultry, not Peacock
    5. Colovian Roast Turkey - Poultry, not Turkey
    6. Vvardenfell Cliff Racer Ragout - Poultry, not Cliff Racer
    7. Similarly, Rat, Hare, Skeever, Skavenger are all "Small Game".
    8. Fishy Stick, Salmon, Trout, Cod, Sole, Eels, Mudcrab are simply "Fish".
    9. The same can be said for Red Meat, White Meat, Game and so on.

None of the above recipes say "Mock" or "False" Turkey, Guar, Cliff Racer, etc, so one must assume they mean the actual ingredient.

Kwama Egg Omelet - Poultry, Carrots & Cheese are the ingredients, with no mention of Kwama eggs or any kind of eggs in the ingredients. I believe it is taken for granted that one cannot have an omelette without using some specie's eggs.

Why do I say eggs are "... a much prized food." ? It quite simply because they are either scarce in number, due to theft, or the difficulty/time in harvesting, eg, Chaurus Egg, or due to the rarity of the species, eg Peacock.

My favoured theory is the chicken eggs are stolen. Surely, we all are aware how prevalent theft in stealth and/or invisibility is in Tamriel and I believe there are large cartels running profitable enterprises to monopolise the egg industry exist but that is another hypothesis of mine.

Chicken eggs are not used in this game because everyone sees them as tiny little balls - which reminds them of Molag's Balls.
