Request: Please block addons from seeing "real" CP

After a few interactions today, basically totaling to "You have 1500 CP and SUCK", can the API finally block addons from seeing your "real" CP?

It doesn't matter if you have 811 or 2000 CP, we can all only use 810. I've met some people with less than 810 CP who are great in combat (no cheats) and I've met people with more than 1500CP who still don't even wear any armor sets.

Saying things like "Look, I killed a 1500 CP!" just means you don't understand what CP means. Yes, I've been in the game a long time, I also *still* have hand and wrist issues. My reaction times are limited, my hands shake, and I also have high lag for the US (125-150 ping is normal for me). It was the same when I had 120 CP.

Please @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_SarahHecker, can you let the dev team know that some of players who have been here the longest are tired of people judging us based on "real" CP? It shouldn't even be visible, unless I want it to be.

Lol...I think you just need to stop being so concerned about being flamed by players. It's a video game.

Mute them if it's that big of an issue.

Right, I can totally mute people in IC who specifically target me because I have high CP. I suppose I can run around permanently offline... or we could all act like the over 17 adults we supposedly are.

Not sure if this is easy, also you can be your main, or some glorified bank alt as in leveled up but left over gear and you have no idea how to play the class.
Now you need to level rapid :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It's been requested many times, for years. Almost as long as CP has existed. I don't think it's hard to do, not even sure why the API allows it. Just one of those "not important" things. My favorite of the other requests was the guy who had 900CP when 600-ish was the max and kept being invited to trials guilds. He only farmed and did writs, never did combat outside of questing.

People will target you because you have a funny name, because they think you have telvar, because of your class, or any number of reasons. You have to be mature enough not to fall apart over a little less-than positive interactions with people.

People will always find a way to insult and judge others. If it's not this, it will be something else. At least in this case, it's an actual real factual number. If someone is going to judge and belittle me, I'd rather it be with facts than with made up opinions and nonsense.

Although I haven't had the same experience you've been having, I empathize with it and agree that this should not be allowed. Anything mod that lets someone purposely target someone for a specific reason such as seeing their "real" CP level when it is not normally displayed by the game really needs to be looked into. Not only can it be used to single out the strong, but also the weak or inexperienced (since people seem to assume these things based on the numbers). All in all, unfair.

    Greetings all,

After removing a couple of non-constructive posts, we would like to remind everyone that Baiting is against the Forum's Community Rules, as stated below:
Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
Please remember to keep all replies civil and on topic, and to keep the Community Rules in mind when posting.

I say you get way more whispers if you are good at PvP and gank or bomb people.

Now thanking people you got lots of telvar of is polite :)

On the other hand people who mock players who might as well leveling bank alts. Reply: well some of us has an real life with an $100K job, an awesome wife and a nice house so we have no idee how to play all the builds
Last two are lies but still, then block.
The guy who curses you as you ganked him, got 5K telvar and then thanked him is ok, nice guy to do an dungeon with.

What's the difference between "You have 1500 CP and you suck!" and "OMG you suck!"?

It will make no difference to those people if they can see your CP or not, they will just find a new way to flame you anyway. If they can't figure out that CP is essentially unrelated to PvP skill then they are dumb as posts and embarrass themselves.

Set yourself as offline if they bother you, or come up with some burns of your own to dish out, like "not as hard as your mom was suck..." I let you figure out the ending.

I seriously doubt players are specifically targeting other players with significantly high CP. They are interested in kills in total and for that matter, the ones that troll other players will still troll the same players because it gets them all worked up. After that, they will look for that person who flamed after getting trolled.

AS I pointed out above - a lot of people in PvP (IC and Cyro) have told me they targeted me specifically bc I have high CP... and were disappointed that I wasn't some kind of goddess at PvP.

I can't stop people from targeting me based on what their addon shows them is my CP. Maybe I should make a guild called "810+ but I suck" because there is no "mute other players from targeting you in pvp" setting. Trust me when I sai that I am definitely the more targeted one, even on my low rank PvP alts.

And to all the people saying "CP won't exist in a year" - this is more a reminder to the dev team that whatever they call the new number that defines our time played in game, please don't make the "real" value available. If all we can use is 3 years of time played, then that's all anyone needs to see. You want to tell your friends you've played for 6 years and brag, fine. Players should not be able to snoop ANYTHING outside of the base game UI about another player. This includes Miat's "detect build" and the cheat that gives your sets plus attribute points allocation.

I agree, addons should not allow other players to show private data from another player. As that would be a clear advantage over those who do not use add-ons. And not just for CP, but also gear drops in dungeons, builds, etc.

A good way to tell good players from bad players in PvP is to throw out a couple of group heals. The good players will be all over you in a hurry.

It's called ignore feature, asking ZoS to block certain addons for the sake of privacy will likely ruin other players game experience by breaking certain addons. Been done before.

ALl ignore does is keep you from seeing their messages in chat, and them from sending you messages or mail. That's it. It doens't stop addons, it doesn't stop other players from "using" your CP for or against you.

What's the point of knowing how many CP I "really" have? I can't allocate more than 810, just like anyone else. If an addon MUST know my true CP... what could it possibly be doing? Nothing I want to be a part of.

If the base game UI doesn't give out information about players, it shouldn't be available. If ZOS wants to add "real" CP, what sets I'm wearing, my CP allocation, or my attribute allocations into base game UI, then fine. (Mundus is already available, as are buffs from sets that give them) Otherwise, it shouldn't be shown. I am far from the first person to ask for this.

Agreed. I group with players with at least 300+ more CP than me and I'm always the first that gets targeted because they find out that I have the highest burst potential.

With my highest respect, your problem is not that someone can see your "real" CP. Your problem is probably that you can't handle getting killed in a PvP Zone. (i was expecting way more posts regarding to the fact that there is an event in a pvp zone), b) you are reacting to people trash talking you ( the worst thing you can do in pvp) and c) you are putting yourself into some kind of victimhood, that you dont need to.

Why should someone change something that bothers you, and you alone. Especially since we probably wont see you until the next IC Event hits. Those people would trash talk you if they see you are 810, like they do it when you are 1500.

Calling for an API Change, or putting your outcry on the forum wont change anything on that fact. And yes, people are toxic, people spreading hate etc. You can learn to deal with it, or you will always getting angry when someone bad mouthing you.

Odd theory, but I think your entire argument supports the reverse idea. People target low cp players, not high cp players, if anything your higher cp pushes the target off your back in most cases. I'm sure there is players who go out of their way to look for the hardest players to fight like Goku, but it's pretty rare, you generally just want to get as many kills as possible without dying in return. Look at any 1vX video.

It's easier to assume a player with 200cp has no idea what they're doing vs a 1500+ cp player that probably has a rough idea. That amount of CP is not easy to obtain. It doesn't automatically make you a great player, but it may influence a players decision when choosing between 2 targets.

It's that first fight. If they find that you're an easy target, you will continue to be an easy target until one of you leaves. They'll recognize your gamertag or your character appearance and look for you. It rarely has anything to do with your CP level. That would only be used to mock you if Tells start flying.

People should learn this will always be the state of competitive multiplayer. No matter the ages, players will devolve into children. There's no consequence to our verbal actions over the internet. Bullying is inescapable.

You have to be mature enough not to fall apart over a little less-than positive interactions with people.

Or maybe only mature people who don't harrass others should be allowed into the game.

What you are saying is like, "people should be mature enough to overlook some racial / sexual discrimination / harrassment done to them".

    NO.

That just breeds more people who use it.

Same with exploitation in this game. You don't take action, people start to use it and soon the game population is filled with exploiters.

Yes there can be. But it is not enforced. Just like there is a high tolerance for exploitative behavior.
FFXIV clamps down even on excessive use of foul language. When people act like children, they need to be treated like children to enforce a civil community. Just like in real life, the "authorities" (whether government or workplace higher-ups) need to admit they see bullying and take action. When they don't, bullies continue their unethical and immoral actions and other people see it works so they start to bully too.

I'm gonna keep a close eye on http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=9877945#edit9877945 where they say, "we've seen and heard lots of reports about harassment and general toxicity in the game, in particular in PvP. I'm looking forward to sharing more about the things we've been working on to address toxicity in particular and the state of PvP in general in a future post".

SWTOR has been more communicative about all sorts of PvP issues AND actually taken careful steps to address such things as cheating and win trading. It'll be interesting to see what their findings are about toxicity and harrassment and what they do about it.

Of course over here in ESO there's no communication at all. <.<

You're seriously comparing ganking someone multiple times in the pvp area of a video game to "racial / sexual discrimination / harrassment?" You moved the goalposts so far that they might get taxed as imports. I'm not even sure you're trying to make an actual argument at this point.
