Having issues as Templar Dps

Hi Guys,

As the title says i am having issues with my dps.

I use bow and dual wield.

My class is templar stamina based, race is Orc.

Since i returned shortly ago, i am fighting to get back into the meta, hence i have been scrolling for a week threw the forum with builds for templars, but each one say uses something else, so i am generally confused were to start.

Some say 25k is standard dps which i have no clue how to reach, and what rotation to use.

I use bow as main (i know it has been nerfed) and favor dual wield too.

Since i don't want to trouble players with low dps runs i want to improve with the damage. Moreover since i am being kicked from veteran runs i've become quiet desperate.

If i missed any info's you require, please do tell me.

I look forward to your help!

You really want complete 5 piece sets, deadly strike is a solid choice for stamina templar, I'd work to get that finished at least.
Deadly strike jewelery is very cheap, and then use 2 body pieces.
You use something like hundings rage on 3 other body pieces and 2 daggers or 1 dagger 1 axe.
At your lvl I'd aim to get more cp, eventually you will want other sets too but to start out that should be fine.

Ah- if I'm reading things correctly, your sets are all wonky, which is going to tank your DPS, and it sounds like you don't have a monster set?

Here's what I'd recommend for now-

    Gear setup
5x Hunding's Rage weapons and jewelry- jewelry can be robuts/bloodthirsy/infused; I believe infused is the best. Main hand should be an axe and Nirnhoned is the meta right now, but that'll be really expensive, so I'd just get precise. Off-hand should be a sharpened dagger. Bow should be infused. Use poison on your front bar instead of enchants (Fleshfly Larvae, Nightshade, Nirnroot) and on your back bar bow use either a weapon damage enchant or, if you're having sustain issues, an absorb stamina enchant. Put physical harm glyphs on the jewelry.

5x Deadly Strike/Spriggan's/Briarheart armor, since it's cheaper (all Divines)

For your head/shoulders right now, just grab a cheapo set- Gryphon's two-piece bonus is weapon crit, so that's probably a good one to check out. Get both in Divines, though if you're having sustain issues, consider one infused)

Run vet Fungal Grotto 1 to get the Krag'h helm. Purchase with Undaunted keys the coffer that has a chance to drop Selene shoulders. Use Krag'h helm and Selene shoulders for now. You'll get the helm once you figure your DPS out. You'll eventually want Divines/Infused traits, but for now just use what you get. Drop Gryphon's once you get both (or even pieces form two sets that offer critical/weapon damage for their one-piece bonus).

    Food/potions
Dubious Cameron Throne (it's a drink) is my go-to food. It's cheap, so I use it 100% of the time.

You want to use Essence of Weapon Power potions (Blessed Thistle + Dragonthorn + Wormwood)

Level your Alchemy skills to 10. Put all three points into Medicinal Use.

When you're in a dungeon you want to keep your potions active as often as possible. Once one runs out, immediately drink another. Outside of dungeons I just use the trash stamina potions that you find everywhere.

    CP/Mundus
I assume you have 109 points available in the blue skill tree. I'd allocate things this way:

    Master at Arms: 24
    Thaumaturge: 15
    Piercing: 30
    Precise Strikes: 20
    Mighty: 20

I'd recommend the Lover mundus for now. You'll want to switch to the Shadow eventually, but I think that Lover will give you more DPS right now

    Skills
Stamplar has one of the easiest rotations once you get the hang of it and currently has the highest DPS potential, so you should be able to get to a good place pretty quickly. Try the following:

Front (Dual wield): Power of the Light, jabs, Ring of Preservation (fighter's guild, nice heal), Barbed Trap (FG), Camouflaged Hunter (FG), Flawless Dawnbreaker ulti (FG). If you don't have FD, you can use the stamina version of the Aedric Spear ulti; I can't remember the name

Back (bow): Endless Hail, Ritual of Retribution, Ring of Preservation, Barbed Trap, Camouflaged Hunter, Aedric ulti

    Explanation of (some) skills
Lots of Fighters Guild skills. In addition to their usefulness, they're slotted for the Slayer passive, which increases your weapon damage by 3% for each ability slotted. This means that you get a passive 12% WD bonus on your front bar, and 9% bonus on your back bar.

Camo Hunter: you'll never want to actually use this skill in PvE. It's slotted because when you deal critical damage from behind an enemy, you gain Minor Berserk, which increases your damage done by 8%.

Barbed Trap: It deals some damage, but you're using this mostly for the Minor Force (10% increase in critical damage) it grants you.

Ring of Preservation: doesn't need to be cast unless you need to heal yourself

I was really confused about why some of these skills were slotted at first, so just in case, I wanted to explain

    Rotation
    Ezpz once you know it:

Start with Trap, Hail, and Ritual of Retribution. Swap to front bar and hit jabs once (you hit jabs first to proc Burning Light as early as you can. If it's easier for you to just cast PotL first, go ahead. Right now it's about getting things in some semblance of order, and refining will come later). Use Power of the Light and then get as many jabs in as you can before it goes off- ideally you'll want 5 or 6 casts, but for now, just get as many in as you can. Hit PotL again when it goes off, then hit your jabs again. Swap to back bar and again cast Hail and Ritual. Back to front bar and just repeat the process, refreshing Trap when you need to, and hitting ultimates as they come up (not sure if it matters which you use- I tend to favor Dawnbreaker because it increases your weapon power, but honestly it doesn't really matter for you right now which you use. Sweep will come up much more quickly).

Most of your rotation will be jabs. It's a powerful skill AND it procs the Burning Light passive (Aedric Spear passive), which deals a massive amount of damage.

I think I covered most everything. Let me know if you have more questions, because I know I just dropped a ton of info on you. If you're PC/NA, I can craft you some Hunding's and run you through Selene's Web to help you get the helm more quickly.

I would put 0 in Thaumaturge at this level. DOT are a minor part of Stamplar's DPS. Better to focus on MaA, mighty and precise.
Deadly is definitly the first set you should pick because it is in the top 3 of the best sets for Stamplar. First would be AY (Berserker Warrior droop in HelRaCitadel, which is a Vanilla Trial. You can easily PUG it in Craglon) and second would be Relequeen (which droop in Cloudrest, another easily and hightly PUG'able trial, in normal at least) which is very situational. Not top priority because of that.

Any good crafting set (Hunding is probably best choice here) on weap+jewlery(blue max, not worth to upgrade highter) while use Deadly armor (to get Deadly+AY(weap&jewlery) asap, as it's one of the best setup for this class. AY (Berserker Warrior) is a heavy armor set. That's why you should use Jewlry and weapon for this set only. Selene (Selene's web) is the easiest/strongest set for StamDD. Other good choice are Maarselok (unfriendly user) and Velidreth (harder to grab, less ST DPS but potentiel AoE better)

Back Bar should be : Endless Hail, Ritual, Repentance (for EZ sustain), restoring focus for buff&Sustain and Vigor (Alliance war) cause Stamplar's sustain (health wise) is pretty bad since Ritual's nerf. You dont need full FG skill on your backbar, you shouldn't be using it more than 2-3 sec per rotation. (time to use Endless and Ritual. rest is when needed) You can keep Empowering Sweep as ultimate here.

for jewlry traits, BT stay better but, i would go infuse for non yellow jewlry because the gap between purple and yellow BT is quite huge. Infuse would probably be better for a new/returning player (more healing from healing skill)

And finally, Run normal Maelstrom Arena. Really easy (can be cleared with light attacks) and grab a Maelstron Bow. Use it as you backbar bow. Best in slot.

    Since no one mentioned it...

Make sure you know how to Light Attack weave, that is you tap LMB a moment before you hit a skill. The skill will cancel the Light Attack animation but will still hit at the same time your skill hits.

Increases overall DPS by several thousand, even if done only moderately well.

well its not actualy true, lots yof your DPS is from dots, poisn on weapons are dot, bleeding from axe is dot (it can easy get 4k+ dps) initial hit of PotL is consideret as dot, trap is dot, riatula is dot. And flawles dawnbreaker or empovering sweeps are both doth ( i prefer using ES on my temlar over FG, it meke insane DPS and hleping procing burning light) and edles hail is dot too (even without MA bow it make huge amot of DSP)

on my stamplars around 40% of my DPS is from direct dmg ( LA, jabs, burning, potl explosion) rest is from DOT

Adraria Argentum Draco - imperial Stamplar
Bevdyen Tus Ntxhuav - Orc Stamplar
    Celestun Ira Dei- Imperial Tankplar
    Halldis Rautt Höfuð- Nord Tankplar
    Misawa Yoshike - Breton Healplar
    Lae'ozhael - Dunmer Magplar

When i was trying to get the best CP point while not maxed, i tried with and without points into Thaumaturge and get best result without any until hight CP. It wont change from light to dark anyway so it's not a big deal. However, your damage repartition seems weird. My last parse (@92.5K, not perfect and non perfect gear) as :
    • 28.2% Jab
    • 13.5% LA
    • 10.7% BL
    • 4.2% Selene
It's not all our DirectDamage sources (one of the POTL is? Explosion gave me 6.8% of my DPS. i'm not even sure how this skill can be considered as a DoT) anyway, it's already more than your 40% by a lot. (56+% without counting all our DirectDamage)
But, as i say previously. Puting few points in Thaumaturge now or not wont change the face of the world at all. I would rather go for more piercing i guess because this is important and often under-estimated by everyone including many tanks not running the basics.
