Sorcery Tank - Twilight Matriarch vs Clannfear

Which one of these is better for tanking?

I have taken the Clannfear into boss fights and it has died over and over again. So, I feel like it's not reliable.

The Twilight Matriarch I have considered. Would need to switch gear from health base to Magicke and speel damage base. My question is, would the Twilight Matriach take less damage because of its ability to stay in flight and positioning or does it die hist as much as well due to boss mechanics?

I really want to Sorcery Tank and crit Surge isns t enough to do that job or can crit surge really be made to do full heals?

This question was answered partially in another post. Apparently pets have health bars in overland and pvp, but do not in di geons and trials.

How ever, I am still curious about the scenarios posed in this post.
Would The Teilight Matriach have better survivability? And can crit surge be made to grant full heals?

I'm pretty sure that pets aren't supposed to die in dungeons, so I guess clannfear would be better. Not sure if either of them is worth spending 2 slots, though.

Most of the sorc tanks I've seen use the clannfear, as the heal scales on health rather than magicka/spell damage.

Pets take reduced AOE damage, but can die to single target damage. I haven't truly played in months so I'm not aware of pets not taking damage at all on dungeons/trials.

It works fine for 4-man dungeons as that's my experience. My Sorcerer tank has always been magicka focused for big shields. I also used to use the Clannfear because it's cute but I only use the annoying ugly Matriarch now for how I built my character along with the Shadowrend Monster set. There have been many changes over the years that lowered overall damage/healing but currently my Twilight will heal 9-10k Health and I can still get up to a 19k self shield with hardened ward. Health is 30-32k, Magicka about 38k and stamina around 12k as a Dark Elf. I don' have room for Critical Surge and other abilities when using a Pet, but I will use it when I'm not using them.

My main tank is a sorc tank though she is very heavily stam based so I rarely use the clannfear but it's the morph I do use when I need it for some reason.

Crit surge scales with crit, healing done, healing taken, so it would be hard to make it heal you to max. Clannfear is the dungeon/trial heal most sorc tanks use, matriarch scales badly with full tank spec.

My stam sorc tank has no use for summons at all. And I certainly don't need to have it on both bars so it doesn't disappear all the time.

I only use matriarch if I’m nervous about the healer not healing the group quite as well as I would’ve liked. With clannfear, I can pretty much sustain myself without a healer.
Also I’ve tanked dungeons especially the DLC and never have my pets been killed (except maybe being unsummoned in Stone Garden with the transformations at the last boss).

Sorc tank has a few viable options for self healing:
    - Clannfear
    - Crit Surge + Boundless Storm / Hurricane

Both of these take 2 slots.

Clannfear = health based heal with bonuses from passives (+8% health is no joke). It's kinda costly in heavy fights.

Crit Surge + Boundless Storm / Hurricane = passive chance based heal. Easier to sustain, but you must keep an eye on the timer and refresh it. Tanks have also low crit rate, so it may not be reliable. On the other hand it may help to proc sets or other effects

Now, Boundless Storm is longer, but it costs magicka and its radius is small. Hurricane is shorter, costs stamina and the circle is huge. Minor expedition for the whole duration is also very good for off-tanking in some trials. I personally use Hurricane on my tank.

Anyway, above are the viable options to choose from. The Twilight Matriarch is not one of them.
    Yes.

Yes, matriarch is more for an sorcerer healer of off heal on an magic DD.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

They are. They will die however in VMA/Open World/PvP - Trials including DSA/BRP they are immune.

If out in open world as a tank Clannfear.

    Ah, same OP I guess.

Pets are unkillable in dungeons and trials.

Clannfear heal is based on max health and is very powerful, it's generally better. My main resource is stamina so the matriarch is rarely useful, but I did use it to clear Kyne's Aegis last Hard Mode as I was off-tank/healer and I had a decent mag pool for once. Clannfear is better for self heal. Crit surge is a nice heal since it's a fixed value. And it's quite easy to proc even as a tank, but you really shouldn't need it.

And dark deal. I'm basically casting dark deal whenever I don't have anything else to do. It just takes some time learning when you can safely drop block. It's an awesome sustain tool and the heal is also very good.

Clannfear will always heal you (and itself).

Matriarch will heal itself and 2 other targets, so it may or may not heal you when you need it.
