Weakening enchant on a Restoration staff dilemma..

howdy folks, this may sound silly (sure does to me), but it has been in my mind for some time. i use the Weakening enchant on my Restoration staff. i know that most players use the absorb Magicka glyph but i don't have any sustain issues what-so-ever so i thought 'what the hell, let's try this one for size'. looked like a good idea at the time. thing is, the description says "reduce target Weapon and Spell damage by 348 for 5 seconds". i didn't give it much thought at first, but that description is increasingly worrying me. you see, it doesn't say "reduce enemy Weapon and Spell damage", it says "reduce target Weapon and Spell damage". so do i inadvertently reduce my teammates' damage as well when using the Restoration staff (by using AoE/HOT heals)?

i know, a silly question indeed, but i'd like to know the answer. any and all input will be much appreciated..

Don't enchantments only apply on light and heavy attacks? If I'm correct, and I think I am, using weapon abilities isn't going to apply your weapon's enchant affect on any targets, friendly or not, and that includes Resto Staff.

it does apply on abilities, for example the vMA staff applies your enchant with the Elemental Blockade (or morphs). stuff like that..

I don't think enchants are applied when you use non-damaging abilities, which covers all the restoration staff abilities.

When the game launched, critical resistance lowered allied critical healing.

This might be worth a test. I'll try it soon and get back to you.

After some extensive testing, I've come to the conclusion that the glyph of weakening does not affect people in your healing springs, or combat prayer (The two most relevant; will explain why)

    TEST SCENARIO ONE:
One character, out of group, standing in front of target dummy. Subjected to springs and combat prayer separately, looking to see if character sheet changed.

    RESULTS:
    Resting weapon damage: 1960.
Weapon damage while standing in springs: 1960.
Weapon damage while under the effects of combat prayer: 1960.

    TEST SCENARIO TWO:
One character, out of group, standing in front of a target dummy. Subjected to springs and combat prayer separately, light attacking target dummy to measure if any change is noticed in damage dealt.

    RESULTS:
Light attack damage without healer influence: 1476
Light attack damage while standing in springs: 1476
Light attack damage while affected by combat prayer: 1574

The above tests were also run while in group, no change to results.

    TEST SCENARIO THREE:
Start a duel to see if springs or prayer affected the target's light attack damage values.

    RESULTS:
Light attack value consistent. It had lowered slightly when the healer used combat prayer, but the resistance change was the reason.

CONCLUSION/TL;DR: The healing abilities that could proc enchantments (direct "healing" with combat prayer, AoE "HoT" with springs) DO NOT proc the weakening glyph, regardless of grouping or combat status.

Housekeeping: Light attack values are non critical values only, healer had a white quality resto staff with blue quality weakening enchant (for a value of -306 weapon and spell dmg), no proc sets, abilities were used to allow change in damage values (no SPC, no berserk enchant on weapons etc).

    Hope this helps! @mzprx

Running a berserker enchant on your resto is also a big help. That's what I run. It increases your spell damage, which increases your heals.

@DocFrost72 wow, i never expected something like this, many thanks..

the general idea behind me running a weakening enchant was to light/heavy attack a boss every now and then between heals to drop their damage a wee bit. seemed like a good idea at the time. thanks again, much appreciated..

I run a Weakening enchantment too, in most cases.

But -- how much does it actually reduce boss DPS? I've never tried to test.
