So at least two of the people you could chose to sacrifice end up back in the storyline in later expansions. It's got me wondering. Will we see a return of the Prophet Varen Aquilarios in another expansion? I mean we've already gotten two out of three coming back. Also who did you actually sacrifice? Seems we know at least two of them return if you do chose them but we're yet to see if the same can be said of Varen.

Varen makes an appearance as a spirit at the end of the Orsinium DLC. That's the last time he is mentioned to date.
    @Djennku, PCNA.

Grand Master crafter, all styles and all furnishing plans known pre U41.
Vamp and WW bites available for players.

Yeah, but I mean an appearance to show he's alive if he does come back. My point being we've already had two out of three return and at this point I'm wondering if they'll decide to bring him back next. On one hand there's the argument that bringing people back kind of destroys the point of the choice but at the point they've already brought two of them back well I'd say it's already there.

It's implied that he's dead and was sending a message before leaving for good.

It looks like I've made a "canon" choice six years ago, but I'm curious - are there, at least, any additional dialog lines with Sai Sahan or Lyris in chapters, somehow explaining them being alive, if you sacrificed one of them at the end of the main quest? Or it's presented as it is, without any explanation, and the player must take it for granted? Maybe developers considered such things possible, because in the messed continuity of the game, broken by One Tamriel, any events of any chapter or DLC technically can happen before the events of the main quest? I doubt it though, considering that Lyris and Sai Sahan were captured by Molag Bal after the Soulburst. I guess they just wanted to throw some of their iconic characters in the chapters, ignoring any possible contradictions.

Honestly if they were going to bring Sai and Liris back, they never should have been allowed to be sacrificed in the first place.
I definitely throws people for a loop if they sacrificed one of them then poof here they are later alive and well.

I remember someone saying something of Lyris saying she's escaped coldharbour before so was able to do so again.

If the others come back to life it makes me wonder if I should sacrifice them instead. Though if he comes back later then well.

IIRC, he also said that was the last time we would see him. Beyond that, this is pure conjecture that really has no point since no one that would have any real idea or actual influence will comment in this thread.

The whole base game storyline needs re-working these days, none of it makes sense anymore.
Especially if you buy the expansions as a new player and end up starting in like Solitude or something.
It gets really confusing when you need an NPC but the one you're trying to talk to is the "wrong" version.....

It's even weirder, because everything in eso is happening in the same year.

One tamriel was a big mistake, this game was designed with the 3 faction war as a core content.

They atleast had to get rid of the faction choice on character creation, handling us as a normal" citizen" getting into trouble (just like frodo in lotr).
And only have us to choose a faction in Cyrodiil for a whole campaign duration account wide.

It's weird that my DC character, fighting in Cyrodiil on DC side, has to slaughter DC camps when adventure threw ad territory (pve).
They destroyed the whole lore and immersion with their one tamriel crap, it's a total mess now.
As an rpg player it's not enjoyable, but I play this game anyway only for pvp.

Anyway, they need to run an crownstore, I understand this. Selling everything for money that in most mmorpg is a base game feature works just fine these days.

Other franchises like, Ff14 did a fantastic job with their rework, implementing their "fail" design of the first release into the story and lore. That's how it should be done.

    If you are talking about Cadwell's Silver/Gold there's an in-game explanation. In DLC/chapter I don't recall any alliance-related content.

And One Tamriel is glorious. I can start any of my strictly-EP characters in any alliance that fit their backstory.

Lack of any explanation why we see those two when they suppose to be dead is
such a lazy, bad writing. I remember when they said that they will explain why Sai is alive and the only thing we got from him was "i don't know what happened". It really makes our previous choices meaningless

The problem now is that you can encounter Lyris, Sai and Abnur before you've rescued them and in the case of Sai and Lyris before you've decided whether either of them needed to be sacrificed to end events that are still ongoing (dolmens).

The highlight of the mainquest is being able to sacrifice one of those dull characters - Lyris and Sai Sahan.

And they're taking that away from you? :/

i just think they should do like other MMOS, and have all DLCs or chapters be done in order after the main quest and vanilla ones, like all expacs in other MMOs.
it doesn't make sense storywise to do the chapters first and then the main quest in ESO.

I never experienced ESO before One Tamriel, but I love being able to travel to any part of Tamriel regardless of my character's alliance or current level.

It pains me how messed up the story is now. I have friends that have never played through in the "correct" order, some haven't finished their original main quests ever. Its frustrating because there isn't even an option to guide people through doing the content in that order in game so tons of people just literally have no idea. I agree that some of the characters coming back dont make sense, like ones you had an option to sacrifice, but I do appreciate that ZOS seems to listen to fans on the characters that lots of people seem to love and want to see again. That part is pretty nice.

The 1T thing, I dont think that is the issue. You still have Cadwells silver/gold that send you to enemy factions to do the quests, and if I remember right that was a thing even before 1T. What 1T DID do was allow me to see other humans playing. Living in Alaska, by the time I could get on in pre 1T time, I could go days or sometimes literally weeks without seeing a legit other player anywhere. It was super lame and boring and sad. I personally am much happier with being able to interact with other humans.

My elf suggested sacrificing Manimarco - after all, he was a member of the original companions. Varon would hear nothing of it though and he was the one sacrificed. BTW, Manimarco makes a return as well - late in the Third Era (TES IV).

Ya, i have made repeated attempts to run thru story, and newer content in a way that makes sense, but havent managed it yet.

Latest char started in solitude, did story there w Lyris, went off to get tossed into coldharbour, met Lyris again, and did all of that stuff, only to come back and find Lyris wanting to do the Greymoor prequel .. what a mess.

It just gave me the idea that prequel quests should function as tutorials. Or tutorials should be available as prequels. And grant skill points for everyone.
That way new characters won't have to do prequel after main plot started and old characters won't miss their chance to get locked up with Fenn experience part of story.

He's also in TES2 Daggerfall. You can do a few quests for him there.

Probably they'll make up an explanation for it somewhen later? Be it a Dragon Break or Daedric intervention or whatever. I mean, Darien also returned.

Some things are best left remembered... which is especially true of Sai Sahan and Lyris.

I will say the return of Sai at least gave Abnur Tharn the opportunity to deliver some of his delightfuly entertaining banter, but without Abnur Sai and Lyris are two planks of wood nailed to a concrete wall, just loosely hanging there for no reason.
