Choice in level

Why do we not have a choice in what level to start after we reach level 50 with a new character?
I like to work my way up with a character instead of after level 50 to go to 810cp.

I know some people who do not want this but there are plenty who would want to just go through the motions again.
So why not let us have a choice?

You COULD just not spend your cp.. Then you are effectively just a lvl 50 character

It used to be that way with Veteran ranks before the Champion Points system was introduced. Each character had to be leveled through all of the Veteran ranks before they finally got to VR16. It was a terrible grind & everyone (mostly) hated it. That's one reason that when ZOS introduced the CP system, they made CP account wide rather than character based.

The CP system was there before the Vet ranks got cut out to be honest. They introduced the CP in update 6 if I remeber right and cut out the VR a couple of updates later.

And just for the record, I liked the VR system way better and totally understand OP.

Maybe not on all my new characters but on a few yes. I like building a character up especially if it is something I have not played before like a necromancer.

For me it is not a grind I do not like grinding. I do what I want when I feel like it and not to reach a certain level. I enjoy all the quests and take my time with them the same goes for finding the rifts in summerset and now the antiquety thing in skyrim.

Is not the same, I want my character to earn the levels so it goes gradually. Not being stuck in one level.

I've always found it annoying that when I hit 50 with a new alt all of my level 40-something gear is suddenly 17-25 levels lower than I am. It makes it basically impossible to gear up an alt without support from your other characters (because at 50 you're suddenly so severely under-geared that you can't do dungeons or PvP anymore).

That said, I don't think I would ever want to re-do the CP 160-810 grind.

This isn't really true, because (as far as I know) all of your gear gets scaled like you're CP 160, whether you spend the CP or not.
