Just wondering... with the announced next-gen support, could Zenimax allow PC players willing to switch over to their next-gen consoles to transfer? Thanks for any info!

The database is not changing when you switch from Xbox 1 to the Next Gen, which is the biggest hurdle when transferring accounts. When they had a fresh, clean database they could transfer accounts over. But when you go to Next Gen you'll still be playing on the same server with your old buddies who are still on Xbox 1.

Next gen consoles are going to be awesome machines, but you will still be taking a step back with regards to this game on console vs pc. Console users are the red headed step children of the eso universe and thats not going to change any time soon im affraid. Even on the new consoles users will still lack all the quality of life items that PC enjoys. :)

Doesn't mean they can't do it. I have a feeling they will probably open it up. All that being said...there is no reason why we don't have cross platform play anyway.

I don't mind not having characters/items. Just Mounts/Pets/Costumes/Personalities. Anything collectable like that. I refuse to drop another £50 just to get my Wild Hunt bear on Console.

one big reason: Sony won't allow addons

This. PS5 players would be at a huge disadvantage with cross-platform play. The beauty of consoles is that they offer a mostly level playing field.

As a recent transfer from Xbox to PC, I offer some advice. Don't do it. Console is absolute garbage. Most of it is because Microsoft and Sony require anyone wanting to make any changes to the game to jump through an insane amount of hoops, so the emergency patches that PC recieves after Zeni makes yet another booboo usually have to waits literal months for us to get them, if they ever come. Kyne's Aegis has been broken since it dropped, and we still haven't heard a word from Zos about potentially fixing it, in spite of multiple tickets being submitted and multiple posts on here begging them to help.

The potential for the game's overall performance is also limited by what the Console host will allow, and there just isn't enough collaboration between Zeni/MS/PS for the game to properly work over there.
    PC/Xbox NA
    Unchained | Unstoppable | Mindmender | Swashbuckler Supreme | Planes Breaker | Dawnbringer | Godslayer | Immortal Redeemer | Gryphon Heart | Tick-tock Tormentor | Dro-m'Athra Destroyer | Stormproof | Grand Overlord | Grand Mastercrafter | Master Grappler | Tamriel Hero

I see this asked often and it is surprising to me how many dont really understand the difference between this next console gen leap compared to previous gens.

There is nothing changing in terms of data base or server infrastructure. Current gen to next gen is technically a significant hardware upgrade and nothing more. It is no different then upgrading your pc to a beefier gcard/cpu etc and loading up said game of choice and seeing greater fidelity and performance.

Starting with the current gen we have now, sony and ms opted to go with amd among other streamlined hardware as opposed to proprietary hardware. This was essentially a method of future proofing so the transition between console generations was not as complicated and problematic the relationship between ps2 3 and 4 is an example of this. It's why backwards compatibility is not even an issue going forward outside of just making sure there are no hiccups no different than pc games running on newer OSes or whatnot.

To the point of eso and the OP. Your question is entirely a non starter as nothing is changing between the current version of eso on consoles with playing it on the next gen consoles outside of visual quality improvements. It is not a new version of the game or a fresh server for new players to enter. The reasons console transfers are no longer offered remains completely intact.
