Taking the Undaunted Pledge (quest)

Probably a dumb question, but...

I started this quest on my newest alt, and it's showing a quest marker at the Undaunted Conclave, but there's no book to sign.

Does that mean I'd already done the quest at some point? Note: There are blue daily quest markers above the daily job-givers, I already went through the ritual at the bar with the "singing" of the song, and I had already completed the second alliance zone before moving on to the next alliance zone, so presumably I would have signed the Undaunted book at that time.

I don't remember how I started the quest (for the second time?), but I'm guessing I noticed that I still had a quest-starter letter in my inventory and used it, thinking that it wouldn't still be there if I'd already used it-- or maybe I got an invitational letter in my mail upon reaching a certain level, even though I'd already started and finished the quest without the letter?

Is this a known bug? I didn't see it mentioned in the UESP Wiki, and I don't remember having this issue on my two mains. Should I just abandon the quest?

Yeah, I guess you can tell I haven't done the Undaunted stuff on my many alts. I know most players are heavy into doing Undaunted dailies for keys, so I figure if this is an issue, you all would probably know about it.

Have you done the 1st quest taken in the Inn of you char faction hometown ?

Probably the alliance first town - then enter it's first dungeon
(Daggerfal, Davon's Watch, Vulkhel Guard - in the tavern)

I think you have to talk to all three of the quest-givers at the undaunted camp, hear their spiel etc, and then you get added to the book which shows up after the conversations are complete. But I'm not positive about that.

Yes, I did the initial quest given at the inn in the first alliance zone, went through the singing afterward, was sworn in, etc.

Then later on, upon hitting a certain level, I got a letter in the mail from Maj inviting me to sign the book and start doing daily jobs, or whatever that letter is about.

I must have already spoken with everyone at the conclave and signed the book, but if so it must have been before getting her letter, or else I'd gotten the letter but was able to sign the book without using it, because I still had her letter in inventory and thus was able to use it to (re?)start the quest, whereas now after using it the letter's gone from inventory.

It's no biggie, it's just that I went back to that zone for a treasure map and noticed I still had an active quest there, so I wanted to clear it. I must have restarted the quest somehow, so I'll just drop it.
