When I apply a potion from 'Slottable items' to the quick access wheel it doesn't work!!?

The heading says it all...It used to work but now it no longer works and hasn't for some time. Most of the time, this isn't too much of a problem, until I'm fighting a boss. As I'm sure you can imagine a quick fix at such times can be a matter of life or death. I can go through the motions of placing it there and it shows it there. But when I need it, it's greyed out and shows '0'!!?
