Are they ever going to improve armor appearance?

A lot of the armors and outfits look alright from afar but upon closer inspection all the design is just blurry ( of course the crown store items are as clear as day). And most shoulder pieces just hover above the character and don’t even connect ( some helms are this way too).

For me I enjoy progressing my characters appearance to make them look powerful. It’s hard to do when crotch and hip flaps are going through my blurry armor and my shoulder pieces are levitating above my character.

I love all they have to choose from but I wish they had some more Dark Souls styles too (more Knightish). That's just me though.

They probably won't update anything that has been released. Hopefully they will add some new styles that are higher resolution and have fewer hip flaps and crotch flaps.

So given the backlash, I doubt zos will update old styles, even if it were just a texture update.

Eh go to the outfit area and start looking at shoulder pieces you’ll notice the majority hover over the character. Experiment with some chest and leg pieces and you’ll start seeing crotch flaps going through armor. This limits how creative you can get with outfits and looks ridiculous.

If they can find a way to stop shoulder pieces hovering above the character without making them clip through chunkier armour pieces that would be a nice improvement. Although I'd prefer they add a way to hide them entirely as I rarely want them on my armour at all, so I'm often choosing the smallest and flattest one I can find to avoid them showing. (Ironically I usually want them showing on heavy armour on bigger characters, and that's when it's relatively easy to find ones which clip through the chest piece so that it barely shows at all.)

But I'd be wary of any "improvements" to the texture or design of armour because it could easily have undesirable consequences. For example a lot of newer motifs have very shiny cloth and leather parts which react with dyes in unpredictable ways and end up looking like plastic or where it's impossible to get either bright or dark colours because the underlying material is either bright or dark and dyes have a minimal impact. It's not exclusive to newer motifs but seems to be more common. I'd prefer to stick with what we've got than see all the older motifs updated to the same format. Or getting carried away and changing the actual design as they have done previously.

It's not the end of the world, I'd just have to find new motifs to use instead, but when the selection can already feel quite limited for some characters because I want to avoid themes ZOS seems to really like using it would be frustrating to have existing options taken away just for the sake of using extra graphical effects in a few more places.

    Not only you my friend.

They did a rework of three existing styles from the beginning of the game. But released them as new ones called Ancient Highelf etc. I would love to see a replacement for the existing ones but to increase the game quality but sadly they didnt just upgraded them.

They should release ancestral redguard style next. It would be a hit!

really I would just like to be able to match patina. Some sets don't even match the ones that go with it. Take the Daggerfall Covenant shield. its entire patina does not match the heavy armor it was intended to go with. If you try a matching color theme the difference is easily noticable and just plain looks bad.

i wiiiiiiiiiiiiiish they would just give us the option of "hiding" shoulder pieces like with helmets.
Mostly because most of the shoulders I find ugly, hovering, clipping through other clothing textures or out of place...

I think Zos did good on armor pieces EXCEPT for shoulder's. Yikes....

Y'know.... I'm not super invested in how stuff looks. Serious. I PLAY the game, I don't jones on how armor looks. There are probably a lot of things other than armor the devs need to deal with.

If looks are a problem for people, maybe.... I dunno.... play some other game?

Ancestral motifs are the first step in doing so gives us slightly tweaked new versions of exsisting armor that dyes alot better but anything before gold coast is gonna look like it was crapped out in ms paint as far as texture

Wow... forgive us players who want our characters that we have to stare at while playing to look nice. Shame on us.

One thing that’s always bothered me since it was released is the medium Order of the Hour helm. Sits too high on your head and looks ridiculous.

    I vividly recall this discussion.

It was not distress about "updating"

It was distress about taking one of the more attractive sets of armor in the game and making it look like crap.

I still think that probably ZoS wasn't careful when they fired some early designer and that person took their proprietary designs with them.

Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

For some, the "game" consists of exploration and Role play

For some, the "game" consists of trials, PvP and IC

For some, the "game" consists of Housing, crafting and designing looks for both people and places

There is no wrong focus, just a way of playing that isn't to your taste.

If you are not super invested in how stuff looks, then cool.

I'm not super invested in 12-man trials.

But I still hope that each type of player/preference has their content respected.

This, I want more knightly armors, and I don't mean just big heavy suits. I want to see surcoats and stuff. A lot of companies could learn something from FromSoftware and their fashion sense.

Zenimax is really stuck in a design rut. Every new motif they come out with looks more or less the same:

    1. Idk some helmet nobody actually wears.
    2. Big pauldrons that sit weirdly on the shoulders and float away.
    3. A chest piece with unnecessarily huge tassets and "crotch flaps." Lately, almost every chest piece has a fur ruff along the collar and oversleeves. The last two are actually nice features, but they're on everything now.
    4. A vanity belt buckle.
    5. Gauntlets. They're fine.
    6. Some kind of kilt that makes your toon's legs look really skinny.
    7. Boots. They're. . . fine, apart from the flat-bottomed boat-shoe feet.

There's hope, though. The Knight of the Circle motif might interest you. It's one of those that you really have to adjust your character's body sliders to.

the honorguard shoulders are pretty good if you look for ones looking less "bombastic".

    2 examples:

    qBoN93d.jpg

    27hF4DX.jpg

Unfortunately pretty expensive and rare to find, approx 120k on xbox.

Cheaper are the Akaviri (10k), but they look not as small. I used those as "poor mans version" before I got honorguard:

    VOvVoVM.jpg

A third alternative (cheap) are Mercenary MEDIUM shoulders. Smaller than "light", they cover just the right shoulder, the left remains free. If you use a dark dye, they are less easy to spot:

    BsqcIYO.png

Not yet available as style is the spawn of Mephala monsterset. Right side, less huge than other monstersets. Was shown in dataleaks as style maybe a year ago, but afaik never made it ingame. So the screenshot shows not the style, but the monsterset shoulder itself.
