What about a new take on Dungeon Finder...

miscreant7
So the general consensus is that dungeon finder is broken because of how long it takes to match up a group. I was in DF for 30 minutes patiently waiting before it kicked me out, so yeah there is some broken to it. But I also know that tanks are hard to come by and I believe that is a big reason for the long times. In guilds and with friends a group is made with whoever is available and some will mark as tank or healer to fulfill the role requirement. Couldn't this be implemented within dungeon finder? When signing up for dungeon finder couldn't there be a selector? Say for example (only one selectable at a time):

[ ] Traditional format
[ ] Tank not required
[ ] Healer not required
[ ] Put me in coach (grab the next 3 players off the top regardless of role.... we KNOW it will be dps)

This would hopefully eliminate the random fake tank in groups while moving the queue along for those who just want to get a random dungeon in and don't really care about group composition.

SWTOR introduced a system years ago for allowing regular group finder stuff to ignore roles and scale the missions accordingly.
Works fairly well, ESO could probably benefit from a similar setup.

Yes, we should remove group dungeon Q's because im sick of queuing up by myself and getting premade teams who want the same drops as me. We should only be able to q solo.

I don't think that solo queues are going to fix that problem. Some dungeons have gear that most people want. Plus it's nice to play with friends when they are online, dungeons included.

I know, I apologise, that was a sarcastic remark at how ZOS took away group bg's and how ridiculous it sounds. Off topic, it was just a QQ from me

Long queues for DDs have always been a thing. Also, ZOS just reworked Groupfinder so it works at all under high demand, in the literal sense. You'll notice that they didn't split the queue into group requirements you are better off looking for from your guilds or zone chat.

All good. I haven't been in a bg for a long time, and I didn't know they did that. That sucks.

I haven't been using Dungeon Finder very long, but as long as I'm not playing at a ridiculous hour of the night, my queue times are relatively short. The only issues I have is that sometimes it just seems to un-queue me. Or that I get a match and then someone is AFK and can't accept it or they just decline it. I had an incredibly frustrating experience a couple of days ago, where I was queuing for about 2 minutes and then I got a match, that someone declined, then instantly got another match that someone decline, then again, and again. 5 times, in the space of no more than 1 minute, I got a match that someone decline in the first couple of seconds of the prompt being up. Still haven't worked out why someone would queue for something they clearly have absolutely no interest in playing, but unfortunately that's down to player choice and not something ZOS can do anything about.

I'm not sure it's a "feature", and I haven't done it in a while, but I have queued for a dungeon, forgot something on another character, logged out, logged into the other character, did what I did, logged back into the one with the df waiting and it was still in queue. I think some of the "declines" are people who have been disconnected or logged off and forgot to get out of df... at least some of the time.

I know long waits have always been a thing, but there has to be something that can be done to make it better...
I remember a year or two ago during an Undaunted celebration the df just up and quit because it had had enough... wasn't even pretending to try any more, so any fix for that was welcome.

You know what I love about the dungeon finder?

    When I'm in a 4 man pre-made group.

We load out the dungeon we want to tackle... And it puts us in a que...

Like brah... We're a full team, why are you being weird?

Because you could have just gone to the dungeon without using dungeon finder. They really should skip handing out rewards for random dungeons. People who don't need it, won't use it, and everyone gets to play in a reasonable amount of time.

    You cancel que
    Try again - Que time!

Maybe by the 5th attempt it MIGHT register it or we have to disband the group, re-group and try again.

If you have a full group and you are not doing a random, just port to the dungeon. You don't need to queue for that.

Don't need to but it's much easier to port everyone in.
