You don't really have an economy in a game where the trading system is restricted to a certain number of players and largely dependent on third party tracking systems. The high level players, especially the elite ones, use the guild stores to buy and sell between each other and most other players decon, sell to NPCs, or gift surplus items to friends and guildies, or just switch the items between their own characters.

How are some of us making millions if we just buy and sell between each other? That claim seems questionable. Seems like you just want to say things against people who make money under current system because you don't like the system.
There is only a single barrier to making money. Time. Guilds are not a problem because anyone can join a top trade guild. I pop in and out of them when I feel like I am going to spend some effort selling for a month or two. I don't like putting effort into finding things to flip or figuring out pricing. I don't like moving things around in inventory to store for when price will rebound. But I do it now and then to make sure I have gold. And it is less of a time sink than crafting writs.
