What's considered "fair" is far too subjective to the single individual, and varies depending on their own circumstances. Therefor it's left to the companies to decide what's "fair" or "right", which is decided based upon if people are willing to pay for it or not. Evidently (since the prices aren't being lowered), it's a "good enough" price since people keep paying for it.
@Thoragaal is correct. If the price is holding steady, or even increases, that says people are buying enough crates to justify the current price.
Besides, everyone gets a discount of ~40% iirc if they plan ahead and buy their crowns on sale.
